Taxco and Cuernavaca from Mexico City

Mexico City, Mexico

Soak up the perfect climate of 'The City of Eternal Spring', Cuernavaca and enjoy a scenic drive to Taxco, the colonial silver mining city on a full day guided coach tour from Mexico City.  You'll have the opportunity to purchase some of Mexico's beautiful jewelry and handicrafts as you become captivated by this city's extraordinary Old World ambiance!

Head to Cuernavaca, a popular weekend retreat for Mexico City residents, where a small city tour will be given. It is a beautiful city known as the 'city of eternal spring' for its joyous atmosphere and enjoyable climate.

You'll then take a scenic drive to Taxco, which is known as the 'silver city' and is one of the prettiest towns in Mexico. The city tumbles across a hillside with winding cobblestone streets, tile roofed buildings, cozy squares and a strong Old World ambiance that has survived for hundreds of years.

You'll then visit one of Mexico's grandest churches, Santa Prisca. It was built in 1759 by French immigrant Jose de la Borda who literally stumbled upon a huge silver claim. Santa Prisca is a riot of ornate Baroque styling flanked by twin bell towers. The interior displays some of Mexico's beautiful goldleaf ornamentation. You'll have plenty of time to have lunch and also visit the marketplace and the famous silversmith shops!

After seeing Taxco, it is time to head back to Mexico City where you'll be driven back to your hotel.

Too much time spent in "pre-chosen" stores in Taxco; there was much pressure to stay in these stores and not nearly enough time to explore Taxco. Didn't really get much time to explore Cuernavaca either. I would not recommend this tour to anyone.

The guide was friendly and knowledgeable, providing both historical facts about the towns and the cathedrals we visited, along with advice for buying silver. Lunch was delicious and the tour was scenic, although we suffered through terrible traffic on the way home. Although I was very pleased with my purchases of silver jewelry, families with children need to be alerted that it is primarily a shopping and sightseeing trip.

I can not recommend this tour as both the transportation and bi-lingual guide were 3rd rate. 14 of us were squeezed into a shuttle van for this trip which was clearly not designed to be a sightseeing vehicle. We were stuck in the back and could not hear the various comments of our guide throughtout the trip. Departure from Mexico City was delayed at least an hour while we sat around waiting for another couple to show up. The ride to Cuenavaca was okay but no actual touring of the city was done. When we arrived at Taxco the vehicle parked at a local restaurant which the guide selected and led us to believe was included in the tour. The food was very poor and expensive. We would not have chosen this restaurant on our own as there were many options as it turned out. We were then marched up the hilly streets to the church for a tour from a local guide (Alex) who was great. After a shopping time, all on our tour were asked to meet to depart. Rather than the lazy van driver go down to the bottom of the hill to drive up to pick us up, we were marched down the hilly streets to the spot where the van was parked. The 3 hour ride home was awful with no stops and we arrived back at our hotel 1.5 hours late. It felt like we paid for a 1st class bus ticket but got a 3rd class shuttle van ride!

Again, our tour guide was late, but not as late as before. It was Javier. He took us to Cuernavaca and then Taxco. They are both beautiful towns. We had lunch at a restaurant in Taxco. Expect to pay around $15 per person for a meal. Also, they include gratuity if you sit in a large group. We had a very interesting group. It was a fun experience, but I did make evening plans that we missed (purchased tickets to the opera for two) because we were grossly late. We got back to the hotel after 9pm. Always expect delays in this city. And, don't make any evening plans before hand. Worth the trip though!

Both places are absolutely beautiful. What was unnacceptable is the fact that we had to spend one hour ina silver shop that was outside of Taxco. This left us only 2 hours in Taxco after wasting over 3 hours on the road to get there, and another 2.5 hours to get back. Basically we spent more time in the bus and shop than visiting the sites.

This was an interesting trip but the bus was very uncomfortable, especially for such a long trip and, as it was a small minibus, we could not see much from the windows when Sergio pointed out places of interest._br/_ Although this was a trip to see the silver shops in Taxco, in the three shops that Sergio introduced us to, we felt under pressure to buy. This should not happen as it takes out enjoyment of browsing. Passengers should be allowed to go where they please and not be directed by the driver where to shop. This trip was of almost 14 hours duration and we felt it could have been undertaken in a shorter time frame.

Trip was worth the money, enjoyed every minute. Guide was informative and the town was enchanting. Silver was fantastic and I brought some pieces to take home with me. All in all I had a very good day.

Taxco silver prices are cheap cf. Aust. jewellry shop prices. But tour guide slept a lot of the way there and never offered information along the way except if awoken and asked a question. The driver would have made a better guide for those who could speak Spanish. 3.5 stars is an average of what we saw (5 stars) and the guide’s contribution. Had sufficient time in the places to see cf. souvenir shops (no issue there). Would have preferred a suggested lunch venue offering a more genuine mexican cuisine, although the place chosen was good value with ambiance.

Unfortunately, I would have to rate this experience as horrible! Our tour van broke down and our tour guide refused to call the tour operator for back up assistance. It took 4 hrs stranded on the side of the road before our tour guide after constant urging by us customers to call for help, finally called for a van to rescue us. Viator does not run the tour, it was contracted out to a another tour vendor. If I had known this, I would not have booked the tour.

I had a great time---even in the rain. I was so impressed with the flexibility of our tour guide, Karen in dealing with the weather, so that somehow we could do all that was planned. She was also, knowledgeable, engaging and obvious happy to be sharing the day with us.

Beautiful cities "spoke" for themselves. The guide was not as engaging and seemed more interested in promoting shopping in Taxco.

Cuernava and Taxco were amazing places I thank the tour guide for taking us there, what I did not like is that he was taking us to the most expensive silver shops and did not give us much time to visit the smaller business ones. Sight seeing was amazing!!!

Cuernavaca is a quick visit. Taxco is beautiful! Looks like a Mediterranean town in the mountains. Would've liked to stay overnight.

Another lovely day trip thanks to the friendliness and expertise of our guide, Javier. We thoroughly enjoyed the visits to both towns - perhaps a little longer in Cuernavaca would have been preferable. We had a lovely lunch overlooking the town and had good fun exploring the silver shops in Taxco. Lots of friendly banter and a relaxed attitude made the day!

The trip overall was worth it. The beginning of the trip, however, was a bit of a nightmare. The tour bus was 25 minutes late...and we were starting to panic. Luckily, everything worked out and not only was the trip a great time, but the people on the trip were also very nice. One plus was that we left our camera on the tour bus and it was safely and prompty returned to us. For that, we were very grateful.

The trip itself was wonderful but got off to a bad start. The booking indicated that the price included pickup from hotel however on collection I was then informed that there was an additional charge of 30!!!. It had to be paid in cash immediately or no trip!! This was unexpected and madfe a hole in our holiday budget, so if you are planning this trip be warned!!!

I was a little disappointed because the only thing I saw from Cuernavaca was a cathedral but we indeed got good information/ Howver, in the description of the program it was written that we would be given a short sightseeing tour of Cuernavaca, too. I had hoped to see more of the city than a church. We spent most of the time in Taxco, more than I had wanted to spend there. It is a pretty little town, different because of all the narrow and very steep streets, but it consists mainly of shops where jewelry is sold. If you are interested in buying anything made out of silver it will be the perfect place for you. If you are not that interested in it, well, then I hope you don't get bored too easily. I would have liked the trip a lot better if the time spent in both cities would have been a little more even.

A great trip, especially for those wanting to pick up some of the finest silver Mexico has to offer. Aside from the shopping aspect, the towns themselves are beautiful and well worth seeing, and the guide was highly knowledgeable.

The trip was great! Taxco and Cuernavaca are "must see places" in Mexico. The trip began with some confusion since we were given the wrong van and had to stop somewhere in the city centre and exchange the cars, drivers, tour guides and people. After that the trip went smoothly. We started from Cuernavaca which is famous for its beautiful cathedral and flowers all year round. Then we moved to Taxco. For those who are afraid of heights, I must warn that the road is very mountainous, with lots of curves and steep slopes. We started our visit in Taxco from a workshop where we had a short lecture concerning silver and history of the city and then we could purchase silver souvenirs. Then we had a dinner in a restaurant which had a great location with a marvelous view to the city so it's worth taking pictures there. We could also wander in the city centre. Taxco the silver city has indeed a unique atmosphere. Highly recommended trip!
