Cinque Terre Day Trip from Milan

Milan, Italy

Discover the beautiful Cinque Terre, one of Italy's most scenic secrets, on a day trip from Milan. Meaning 'five lands', the five lovely fishing villages of this UNESCO World Heritage-listed site are strung along the cliffs bordering the Ligurian Sea, linked by numerous walking paths and a train line.

Departing Milan, you'll arrive at Golfo dei Poeti and visit the characteristic village of Porto Venere. From here, take a boat trip to Monterosso al Mare alongside the famous Cinque Terre. It is one of the five villages of Cinque Terre in the province of La Spezia, part of the region of Liguria. In Monterosso, the biggest of the five lands, you'll have free time to explore it and its beach that runs along the most of the coastline. After lunch (free lunch), train transfer to Manarola to begin a gentle 20-minute stroll (Via dell'Amore) along a scenic coastal path to Riomaggiore, with romantic vistas over the Mediterranean Sea.

Riomaggiore is the Cinque Terre's fifth village. You'll have free time here, perhaps venturing down by the wharf where fishing boats line the shore or sampling locally produced wine from the town's historic vineyards.

You'll then continue on the final leg of your scenic day trip by train to La Spezia, where your coach will be waiting to take you back to Milan.

This was also excellent. Just missed the bus though.I wish the hotel where we stayed could have told us that we can take the train to the meeting point. 7 am is quite a rush!

Though everything about the trip was just as advertised, the drive to and from the destination was really long. The time spent traveling was longer than the time spent at any of the towns. I also had really high expectations of Cinque Terre myself, but the towns were less colorful and interest-filled than reputations had it. I think to really enjoy the location, you need to spend a whole afternoon on the beach and take a dip; and this is not the trip for that.

This was my first experience in a guided tour like this. I think this is a bit too long tour for one day, it was planned a 12 hour tour but due to traffick accident it ended after 14 hours ! Another thing that I should have noticed myself was the sailing .....I myself do not like to sail, due to seasickness and this sailing was particularly bad at that day and I didn´t realize that it took so long ;-( so that ruined part of the trip for me. But with all that said I will say that this is a beautiful and breathtaking part of Italy and I am glad I took this trip ;-)_br/_ I just have to read better all details reg. trips like this before I book ;-)_br/_ So thank you.

great day tour, only thing is there isn't enough spare time at places, as people on the tour continually never meet back on time

This trip was amazing!!!! My new favourite place in Italy. Absolutely breathtaking!! I would recommend this to anyone! The only thing I would change is I would love to have had more time in the towns but it was already a long day so I know that wouldn't have been completely possible!

The weather was great and that always makes a great start to a long day trip. The 5 townships are lovely, the food fantastic. We would love to have a bit more time to explore the villages but because we were covering all 5 villages, there were not time to explore except to stop at one village for lunch.

Such a fantastic day trip! We had such a lovely time, we thought it was well worth a 3 and a half hour train journey to go back again by ourselves the day after. The food at the restaurant suggested by our tour guide was amazing - the seafood risotto for 2 is a definite must. Make sure to take some spending money though!! You can enjoy a drink or two at the hilltop cafes, find gifts and souvenirs in one of the many tourist shops or market stalls and note that lunch is not included in the price of the tour.

Great tour and a good way to experience Cinque Terre in just one day. The guide was very good and there was a suitable balance of travel and time to spend exploring various stops, given the ambitous itinerary. The scenery is stunning.

The trip is beautiful. The tour guide walks so fast that he's very hard to keep up with and on the way home he was very stingy with a restroom break. We were rushed and no time was allocated to get a snack or drink.

The tour of Cinque Terre was very well organized and run. I always wanted to see Cinque Terre and this was a perfect way of doing it, as I did not have much time. The area was very picturesque and you could take most beautiful photos from the ferry if you were lucky to get an unobstructed view. This was rather difficult as the ferry was “chock a block” full! We stopped in Monterosso for lunch and then had some free time to explore the narrow streets. The walk along the “Lover’s Lane” would have been great if it was not so hot! It was very hot everywhere, even on the ferry. No breeze at all anywhere! I am glad I went on this tour because I can now say that I have been to Cinque Terre! Do I want to go back there? No! It’s too hot, much too crowded, too steep and too narrow!

Our guide was excellent. This is not an easy trip as we need to pay attention to move around the five islands with ease. Logistically speaking. The guide was excellent and we saw spectacular views.

Overall very good, but as a previous visitor, I was disappointed that we didn't actually visit Vernazza, my favorite (and most picturesque) town. We were on a very busy boat, so pictures were difficult – board early and sit on the right side. The tour was well organized, and the guide was excellent.

Since I only had a short stay in Italy I thought this day trip was a way to take in the Cinque Terre. Our tour guide, Andy, was really knowledgeable about the entire region and ensured that we got the most out of the day. I will definitely return to Cinque Terre and would recommend this day trip for those short on time.

Our guide was disorganized and offered very limited relevant commentary. But this was the only way we realistically could get to Cinque Terre from Milan, so we were glad we took the tour. The spectacular scenic beauty more than made up for the mediocre guide.

Great tour guide, she was informative and provided plenty of adviceinformation to all. Large coach, so plenty of room as only a small group. Cinque Terre is a lovely place to visit. This tour will give you a taste of the area, particularly if you have limited time to do this area on your own. Do not expect to spend a lot of time in the three mentioned townslocations. We only got to spend time in one, we did do the walk between towns Lover's walk but did not stop in either of them, as had to make the return train. Overall an enjoyable day. I would recommend this tour to those that want to visit the area and have limited time to do so.

The place is fantastic, but you should change the guide, who does give only very limited information about the places, and is most of the time either talking with the driver or sleeping. For that kind of guiding the price of the trip is quite too high.

This tour was absolutely wonderful from start to finish. Our tour guide was knowledgeable, friendly and entertaining. The day was absolutely beautiful and made for some spectaular photos. We really enjoyed the ferry ride and viewing the 5 villages from the ocean. And, having some time to explore 2 of the villages was a nice balance. We wished we could have stayed longer... this tour was perfect!

Cinque Terre was nice. However, bus seating needs improvement. The seats on the small bus were uncomfortable and narrow. Price of the tour should include lunch and drinks.

Without any doubt this trip was the best that I ever took! The Cinque Terre Five Lands is a paradise on earth. Although this trip did not stop at all Terre Lands it is still highly recommended. Since this trip starts in Milan, it was a journey by bus for 3 hours each way. On the web site when it says, "Scenic train trip to La Spezia", it is a regional public train trip not a special one. The guide was professional but not so good as the one to Lake Como. Highly recommended without any doubts. One negative point: the bus used does not have safety belts, which is concerning in case of an accident.

The 3 hour drive, with hardly a 10 minute rest, was very tiring for children and adults alike. Longer stops could vastly improve the day trip. The villages themselves were well worth seeing.

Weather was unfortunate, but it made for an exciting boat trip. The drive was interesting and we were well catered for. There was a breakfast break at 9am and lunch was available mid day. It poured with rain for our walk on the Via dell'Amore but we were all dressed suitably. The trains were interesting but views are rare as most of the journey is through tunnels.
