Quebec City and Montmorency Falls Day Trip from Montreal

Montreal, Canada

Leave Montreal for the day and visit Quebec City, the historic heart of French Canada. You'll take a full day sightseeing tour through Quebec with a local licensed guide and enjoy views and photo opportunities of the magnificent Montmorency Falls - higher than Niagara Falls!

This full-day, 12-hour tour will take you back more than 350 years as you visit the former French colonial city of Quebec. You will be charmed by the old-world atmosphere of Quebec City with its narrow streets, steep hills and numerous historical treasures on the banks of the St. Lawrence River. Before you return to Montreal, you will have free time to browse Quebec's Old City.

Highlights in Quebec City include:

  • Place Royale, birthplace of French civilization in North America
  • Shop and eat in the oldest quarter in North America, the Petit Champlain district
  • Escalier Casse-Cou, which translates as "break neck staircase" but, while impressive, it isn't nearly as dangerous as its name implies
  • Funicular ride on the elevator linking Upper and Lower Old Quebec, with magnificent views of the river and surroundings
  • Citadel, the largest fortifications in North America
  • Plains of Abraham, where the famous battle between the French and English armies took place in 1759
  • Parliament Building, Quebec's most important national historic site

I really enjoyed this tour even with the rain we had. The tour guide provide very helpful information about quebec city. Its a long trip but worth it, I bet is much better in sunny days

So glad we decided to book the day tour instead of planning an overnight trip ourselves. Super friendly driver/tour guide. It was perfect way to get a snapshot of Quebec. It did feel a little rushed at times but as to be expected with a day trip. We had about 3 hours of free time to eat lunch and explore inside the walls of Quebec. 3 hours was a good amount of time, but of course would have maybe liked a little more time. Over all, it was a very positive experience and we did get a good feel for Quebec city.

Overall was good event. There was a feeling that our guide was perfunctory in her approach. We realize you have arrangements with food establishments, but you should offer additional venues as the two offered were too small for our small group and were very disorganized. Time allotted was good.

Rock was our guide and was very interesting and fun. He pointed out that he was showing us as much as he could in a limited time, but he did this in a clear, concise and informative way. It's true when they say you need more than a day to see the city, but my friend and I came away satisfied with the amount we had seen. If you are short on time, I would definitely recommend this tour.

This was a fantastic little trip to Quebec city. The tour guides were knowledgeable, warm and friendly. The trip provided plenty of time for us to shop at Petit Champlain district but I do wish that we had more time at the Montmorency Falls; 15 min. was just not enough. The bus ride was pleasant and they are very punctual. It's definately worth it. Go for it!

My husband and I had a great time in Quebec City! The guides were very friendly and did a good job of showing us around so that we would know how to best spend our free time. Definitely worth the money! Less expensive than a train ride alone!

We had a great time on our trip to quebec, I recommend this tour to anybody. The only complaint we had is that the air conditioning on the bus ride home was not working and it was very hot and uncomfortable

The trip was great and the sightseeing amazing ! Quebec city is beautiful and Montmorency Falls stunning. However the biggest flaw in the trip , which they should rectify right away , was that we were given too little time at Montmorency falls where one can easily spend an hour or so and too much time at Quebec city ( 3 hours). They should give one hour time at the falls and two hours to explore the city.

Highly recommend this tour - it's perfect if you want to visit QC but don't have the time to stay up there. The guides were amazing. QC is a beautiful city, and I plan on returning in the summer. Seeing the ice on the river was also pretty neat._br/_ If you have the chance to do the tour, I say go for it!

Quebec City is a must go destination in Canada, especially when you are in Montreal already. However, don't go to the restaurant that are repeatly recommended by the tourist guide as one of the waiters are not nice, plus they wanted for every table finished ordering to place order at the kitchen. We only have around 3 hours free time to spend and the stupid lunch took us more than an hour. There are a few cafe that you can grab a quick lunch and spend the time to explore the beautiful city. Overall, the trip is worthy. The bus driver is exceptionally good. He explain the scene along the trip and never talking any non-sense.

This trip was great. The two tour guides were really knowledgeable and funny. There was a funny episode in the middle of the day when the door on the bus got stuck and we had to drive to the bus station and get a mechanic. It took about half an hour to fix but we got half an hour added onto our time in Quebec so it was fine. The only negative was that the bus did not drop us back at our hostel at the end of the day, though it did drop off a lot of the other passengers who were staying in the posh hotels - what's up with that!?

The pickup from the hotel went smoothly and much appreciated especially as it was an early start. The driver of the coach who took us to Quebec City was informative, friendly and professional. The journey to and from Montreal was seamless and comfortable. The sights were fantastic and the local guide in Quebec was great. I was particularly lucky as the weather while cold was sunny thus perfect.

The coach driver was superb with his running commentary and the tour guide in Quebec city was equally superb. It was a cold Fay but this did not spoil the trip, the only thing that ruined it for me was the person who left gum on the coach seat and as a result I ruined a new pair of trousers.

It was a fantastic day - really enjoyed Quebec City. Gave us a taste of the city and left us wanting to return._br/_ Our walking tour guide was brilliant. She took the time to get to know where everyone was from and managed to personalise her commentary with facts from the countries we were from. Her French and English was impeccable._br/_ The bus ride isn't too bad but overnighting would be great.

I appreciate that it was easy to book. The trip itself was of good value and well organised. It was very comfortable to have been picked up at the hotel. The guide in Quebec was a real professional and managed to show us round within a short time. There was also enough free time to walk around on your own. Last not least, I really loved Quebec and found Montmorency Falls impressive.

We were in Montreal for a few days , decided this might be a fun/interesting tour. We were more than happy with the whole tour. Even though it rained, especially during the boat ride, it didn't prevent us from having a great time. The hotel pick-up/drop off is a plus. The tour operators and guides are some of the best we have experienced. They are professional and extremely knowledgable...not to mention pretty funny. Nice touch having comp. travel box with food items for each person on the way to Quebec City. Two stops, there and back at restaurant-convenient store for 20 minutes. Lunch was arranged at an Italian place specifically for tour group at special price for our tour( $16 pp for meal, drink, desert) and food was IMHO pretty good...wine was xtra $. As for Quebec City, a must see city if you have the time. A very interesting and beautiful city. It's history very closely tied to early American history . As is true with most 1-day tours...it leaves you wanting more. Some day we will be back to see Q.C. with more time. _br/_ Some hints...bring good walking shoes(hills). Dress for the climate naturally but the boat ride gets cool/cold. Bring a book(music, games, etc) for the 3 plus hour trip to/from Montreal. Expect a whole day experience (7:30a-8:30p). There is free time after the tour/ferry ride to shop or sight-see of up to 2 hrs. or more. Be sure to bring a camera! _br/_ If you aren't sure of itinerary in Montreal, our concierge @ the hotel arrnged this tour for some friends the morning of the tour. But Viator has an xclnt reservation system. We all recommend this .

It was an amazing city and the trip was generally good, but it's mostly because of the city itself. I took off 2 stars because: 1. I booked and prepaid for the trip online one day ahead of the trip. The next day when I was at the front counter, the lady said she couldn't find my booking record and that I need to pay again, and if they found that record they'll credit the money back to my credit card. At last they found my record but I think it is ridiculous that the record didn't go trough their system and the customer needs to pay twice (esp for foreign customers who may or may not have a credit card to use and may or may not have enough cash at that moment), and obviously this wasn't the first time it happens. 2. The guide was with us for like 2hrs and kept asking for tips which made it kind of compulsory. I don't have a problem with tipping the guide but this makes me uncomfortable. And the guide recommended a local restaurant to us which he described as "decent" but the food was actually awful. _br/_ The bus driver was very helpful, though.

Convenient bus ride for commuting to the city and back. But the bus driver provided tourist information over the mic while driving and his english wasn't that great so it was a strain to hear what he was saying. We met a different tour leader in quebec city who showed us around for 30min then put us on a cruise to montmorency falls as part of the harbour cruise. Then 2 hrs free time to walk around and shop. The organisation fo the day was very disjointed.

The guide in Quebec City was excellent, made the walking trip very interesting and enjoyable. We were a little disappointed that we didn't get to see the Falls up close as we thought we'd see them by bus, not by the boat. We would have liked more walking time with the guide since viewing areas only by bus was just not enough to appreciate this city. A negative item: being constantly reminded to tip the bus driver and city guide was VERY ANNOYING !

The pickup service from the hotel to the departure point was on time. There were extra people so a second bus was made available that morning for the actual tour. We enjoyed Roger, our Quebec City guide. He was very knowledgeable and personable. A real 5 star person.

Our day trip from Montreal to Quebec City was wonderful! The hotel pick-up was on-time and we left Montreal at exactly 8:00. The 3 hour bus ride was OK with one "rest" break. Our tour guide in Quebec City was very knowledgeable and personable. There was a walking tour and a bus tour of the city. After eating a very nice pre-arranged(by the tour guide) lunch , we were taken on a 90 minute cruise on the river to see the Montmorency Falls. Very nice and relaxing._br/_ We then had 2 hours of free time to explore the streets and shops. The day in Quebec City was the highlight of our 4 day Canada trip. Loved it!
