Hitler and the Third Reich Munich Walking Tour

Munich, Germany

Many of Munich's buildings carry the secrets of a dark past. Just six decades ago, Munich bore the official title, Hauptstadt der Bewegung, the Capital of the Nazi Movement. This was the city that the Allied Supreme Commander General Eisenhower called 'the cradle of the Nazi beast'. Find out why on this fascinating walking tour.

Munich was the birthplace of the Nazi Party and the home of its headquarters. The voice of Adolf Hitler resounded around the public squares and streets of Munich before being heard anywhere else in Germany. As the stage upon which some of the Nazis' most notorious crimes, from Hitler's failed Putsch to the horrific Kristallnacht, the largest anti-Semitic progrom seen in Europe for centuries and a dismal milestone on the road to the Holocaust were launched, Munich was the nursery of a movement that would shake humanity with some of the most infamous and terrible events in history.

In a unique and fascinating tour, our dedicated guide will open up this hidden history for you. We'll show you the beer-halls which hosted the first small gatherings of the fanatics who one day would lead the Third Reich, and the place where Hitler made his first major speeches. We'll walk you through the streets where Hitler and his brownshirts fought their way to power.

The irony is that while much of central Munich was devastated by Allied bombing, many Nazi buildings survived and still stand today. Standing alongside them are memorials to the city's many victims of Nazism, including those who sacrificed their lives in opposing its hateful ideology. We'll show you all these sites and give you the story.

Fantastic tour guide and overall experience. It was fast-paced without being too fast. Guide was very knowledgable with both his 3rd Reich tour as well as being able to answer additional questions that were raised. This affordable and professional tour made my trip to Munich that much more special.

The tour was fantastic! Very detailed and it gave you a great picture of what Munich was like during Hitler's days._br/_ At times though it was difficult to hear the tour guide with the traffic and other noise of the city. After awhile, a little portable chair/ stool would have come in handy during the talks the tour guide gave at various points in the tour.

Our tour guide Steve was fabulous! We had such a great time! He told so many interesting stories that I hadn't heard before and refreshed my memory of what I had learnt in school years ago. This tour is certainly worth doing.

This is not a tour I would recomment unless you are preparing to run a marathon. The guide whose name I do not remember was on a one track to move as fast as she could not caring whether we kept up with her or learned anything.

Steve was an excellent guide taking you through the streets and transposing the present to the past with ease through period photos. The English humour may be lost on some but as a Kiwi, I enjoyed it. Well worth doing to get an appreciation of how WWII began and walk in the steps of history, almost literally!

Ian was great! Very well worth the money and time. Ian, the tour guide is perfect at his job and even though I had been up for 40 hours at that time, I was still hanging on to his every word! 10 out of 10!

This was a really fascinating tour - the guide was knowledgeable and interesting, and really brought to life the Munich of the Nazi period. It was fairly strenuous though for an older person, with a brisk pace being kept up for the two and a half hours.

This walking tour was great but only because the group we were in was small (around 5 of us). I'm not sure how it would be if the group was any bigger than that. The guide was knowledgable but talked a bit too softly. Its worth the small cost and takes you to some interesting sites.

Excellent in every way. Steven led tour and was well schooled and knowledgeable. Information with extra touches (Like pointing out swastikas "engraved" on buildings that one would not have noticed routinely) and depth of information presented on a "human" level was really extraordinary and appreciated. Recommend highly.

The tour was laid out logically and our tour guide, Keith, was great. Keith had an iPad loaded with pictures relevant to each site which helped to make each site we stopped at more relevant. His knowledge was very good, his enthusiasm for the subject matter was very good, and his dialogue about each site we visited made the tour very interesting. Finding the tour and getting squared away to start was easy. I would recommend this tour to anyone who wants to see historically significant sites of the Nazi movement in Munich.

Excellent! Despite it being a rather chilly day, we were kept moving - though not too fast - and learned much we did not know about the places and the people involved in the dark history of the period. The Nazi-constructed buildings are - per our guide - 'butt ugly', but you have to admit they are striking, and happily they largely remain as built, if used for more noble purposes. We can understand yet regret the destruction inflicted on Nürnberg and Berchtesgaden; it is fortunate and salutary for us that Munich's buildings did not suffer so.

Kind of basic. Was more of a summary of the Second World War than a Munich and the Nazis tour. Had hoped for more. A huge group also, 50 persons.

Munich was headquarters for Hitler in the years before he became premier. While many of the places Hitler built purposely have not been reconstructed, the guide does a good job of tracing Hitler's efforts to become known by visiting the beer halls and making speeches, his failed "putsch," and his rise to power.
