Neuschwanstein Castle Small Group Day Tour from Munich

Munich, Germany

The enchanting old-world town of Fussen lies in the foot hills of the Alps, framed by one of the most breathtaking natural settings in the world. Traveling by rail on small group guided tour from Munich, you'll tour the ethereal Neuschwanstein Castle, be taken to the best vantage points; the lake, the postcard-perfect aerial view of the equally beautiful Hohenschwangau Castle and  to the waterfall gorge.

This glorious folly was built in the 19th century by the famed "mad" King Ludwig II, a man intoxicated by myth and who himself became a legend. The shimmering white towers of the castle among the clouds are instantly recognizable to many and is the inspiration for Disney's Sleeping Beauty Castle, and is also famous as the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Castle. To visit it is to step inside a fairy tale.

Your guide will tell the engaging story of King Ludwig's renowned and tragic reign, of his turbulent times, and of the obsession that drove him to build his fantasy castle in the mountains and ultimately destroyed him. Take an exclusive internal tour of the king's private chambers with a specialist castle guide.

Entrance fees to the Neuschwanstein Castle are not included. A supplement of 12 euros (per person) is payable direct. This guided tour includes advance booking so you can skip long lines and gain quick access to the Neuschwanstein Castle. Don't waste time waiting in lines on vacation!

The journey to Neuschwanstein takes approximately 2 hours by train. Germany's rail system is world renown and this journey to the Alps is no exception. Offering spectacular views, trains are clean, comfortable and equipped with washrooms and snack bars. Feel free to walk around and chat to your fellow travellers as well as your guide, who can answer any questions about Munich and Bavaria.

Amazing target but also amazingly great guide! The whole trip was well organized and scheduled. There was enough time to see everything and also alternative options. The guide really knew what he was talking about. And the tour was everything but boring tourist tour. Our best regards to Mike! And of course also to Mike's buddy at Füssen village, the restaurant guy who makes the most delicious snack amazingly fast :) Mike is simply the best! :) Many thanks!

I thought the tour was great! Our guide knew what he was talking about and didn't waste time. The actual castle tour was hard to hear but it was ok and we were warned.

This tour was ok, the trip itself and scenery was absolutely stunning. The tour guide we had kept things very loose and the time spent in the actual castle and overlying foot hills was very short.

Excellent trip!! Our guide, Roland, was informative and entertaining, and provided a great perspective of King Ludwig II and the castle. The tour was well organized, and it was wonderful moving to the front of the line to visit the castle. I highly recommend this tour!!

The Castle is Amazing! I loved the trip and the tour guide was really enthusiastic and she told us more interesting facts than the tour guide inside the castle.

We enjoyed the tour very much. The tour guide, Kevin (from Texas) was a great help to us and very knowledgable regarding the histary of the castle. We were a little concerned as we had to walk back from the castle, the horse drawn carriage was closed early, it is quite a long way. We are in our 60s and 70s and were worried that we would miss the train. Kevin made sure that did not happen. The train ride back to Munich was a nightmare, as one train was cancelled and there was no room to sit. We had to sit on the floor as we were so tired._br/_ Otherwise we enjoyed the day! We would suggest warning people that they might have to walk a mile or so, could be difficult for us older folks.

It is not properly organised. The group of about 60 people is not "Small", they should have pre-grouping so that all are divided into different group instead of arranging last minute after arriving the tour venue. Some were standing in the train through out the journey without seat which is not acceptable, same were happening during the return trip where my 2 kids were standing through out the return journey. Train cabin should be reserved for the tour group. Printout of introductions of the place to be visited should be given so that tourist will have better picture as different tour guide may give different info. Tour guide should not bring along their pet (dog) where she is distracted from time to time to manage her dog! This is the worst group tour l ever joined and doesn't see the advantage out of it, may be it is better off if l go on my own. Please improve.

The guides were good, but the company overdid a bit in their quest for high turnover. The promised 'small group' had battalion strength, and was squeezed into a local train for a two hours trip lacking enough seats for everyone. Fortunately the train was heated for the first half of the journey.

Take a bus instead of this tour if at all possible. The train was overcrowded. People had to stand in the aisle for over two hours on the train ride out to the castle.

Efficient way to see the castle on a tight schedule. The guides don't really do too much during the visit since the actual castle visit is guided.

Our tour guide was from London and he did a great job. He was funny and wasn't at all boring as a guide. There is absolutely no reason not to choose this tour as it would practically cost the same as the train ticket alone. If comparing to the cost of the train ticket, then you get a free tour guide, free buses to and from the nearby village. They see to it that you get a seat on the train journies and there is no queueing for buses or purchasing tickets for the castle. Great value and service indeed! I thouroughy recommend!

I was very displeased with the trip. In the wording you said there would be transportation upto the castle and there wasn't (unless you wanted to pay 60 euros for a horse drawn wagon half way up). So everyone was left to struggle their way up. I am a litttle overweight and I thought I was going to have a heart attack before I reach the sitting area outside the castle. Not that much to see when we did go in. Well not recommend this, especially in the winter time. This is for young and fit only if you are reduced to have to walk. Our guide told us after we were on the train " Oh by the way there will be no transportation up the hill, sorry you have already bought ticket, too bad.

We had Keith as our guide and thought he was great. He was kind and chatty with everyone and gave us some good background history about Ludwig and his family. He didn't actually come into the castle with us though and be aware that you cannot take photos inside which was a bit of a bummer. However, Keith did show us the way to the bridge (it's closed in winter and VERY enter at your own risk) and it gave an amazing view of the castle! It was also very snowy on the day we went so we didn't see the surrounding mountains so clearly but the quiet atmosphere created by the snowfall was really something else!

Pleasant 2 hour train ride from the city. Would have been good to start on time if not for the group of 6 HKG students who were late! Our guide was rather disorganised at the start of the trip and lost some ppl in the train. Hike up the hill to the bridge and castle was a bit taxing for the fitness challenged. It was a shame we could not take photos in the castle although some did blatently sneak in some photos. It would be a good idea to tell ppl to pack their lunch as food selection is somewhat limited.

Our tour guide, Jeff, was great. He kept the long day enjoyable and entertaining. Although it worked out okay, the arrangement with changing trains to get to the castle (at Fussen) seems overly complex. There was one train sitting on the opposite platform that went directly to Fussen, so I don't understand what that was about. But otherwise, the trip was great and we all have a good time on our day out from Munich.

I have been to this castle twice, this was the best way. Will only use this tour if I go back. The guide was an American (mike) he knew what he was talking about and he got us on and off the train with no problems. Note to Mike, my wife and I ran out of cash and really wanted to tip you. I hope a reader will tip you on our be behalf. Thanks for the day tour mike from WI

Absolutely beautiful train ride from Munich to the Alps. Guide gave us several options on how to get to the castle two different walking routes or a horse carriage ride - great for people with different levels of fitness. Guide was very social and enjoyable. A definite must see while in Southern Germany.

There is more to Neuschwanstein that just the castle. Fussen is a lovely town and I left wishing I could have had the time to explore it more. The lake and surrounding area is absolutely beautiful. The hike up to the castle is killer. So, make sure you're in good shape before going. Otherwise, take the bus or carriage. The walk down from the castle is an additional adventure. The waterfall and gorge are beautiful as well.

I found that the whole day was very interesting but was disappointed that you only had 30 minutes inside the actual castle! There was so much to see inside but we had to hurry through for some odd reason. It is a great sight to see for sure. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable which makes it even more enjoyable.

Our tour guide was Rolland. He was from the UK. He was very informative and friendly. Talked with each of us on the trip to the castle to get an understanding of where we were from, etc. He definitely made the trip a worthwhile experience. This type of organizationtrip is perfect if you haven't been to these countries before. They handle everything, I didn't have to do anything but show up. Of interest is this castle had time frame of when to tour based on when you bougth your tickets. I heard of people arriving before noon but not getting to see the castle til 4 or 5 in the afternoon. This trip was scheduled so that when we arrived, it was planned so that we could go right into the castle once there. I would definitely use and recommend Viator. Thanks for a great trip.

I was choosing between the two castle bus trip and this one. Chose this one, because one castle a day was enough for me. Plus I preferred to take the train. The guide was really great and made the whole experience much more interesting.
