Nuremberg Day Trip from Munich

Munich, Germany

Travel to Nuremburg by train on a full-day trip to one of Germany's most beautiful cities. Enjoy a fully-guided visit of the city, as well as an optional visit to the Documentation Center on this rail tour from Munich. Nuremberg is a beautiful, old city with a vibrant history. This was where the Third Reich strutted in all of its pomp against an epic backdrop of grandiose marching grounds. It was also where an international war crimes tribunal later held that same Nazi leadership to account amidst the rubble of the defeated city.

The locations of the iconic scenes captured in films such as Triumph of the Will - the rally grounds where Hitler addressed his multitudes, the astonishing Congress Hall, the entire region designed as a "new Rome" by the architect Albert Speer - are still largely intact. We'll take you there and tell you the story.

You'll also see the other Nuremberg that locals are rightly proud of. The medieval fortifications of the striking old town, Gothic churches, colorful market places and hilltop castle of the old imperial city are as awe-inspiring today as ever.

Nuremberg hosted the Imperial Diet (or parliament) of the Holy Roman Empire and was nominated an Imperial Free City by the Emperor Frederick II. It was a center of cultural vitality at the center of major imperial trade routes. It played a key role in the Reformation, and in the printing and scientific revolutions that shaped the modern world. It was home to one of Germany's oldest Jewish communities.

The old rally grounds today host a major Documentation Center that maps all of this painful history in detailed clarity and represents evidence of Nuremberg's determination to come to terms with its past.

Our expert English-speaking guide will accompany you on the pleasant 1.5 hour train journey from Munich and back again, giving you a comprehensive tour through this unique city.

Wonderful day tour with Nicola. It's amazing to visit the scenes and stand in the spots we've seen on those old black and white Nazi documentary clips from the History Channel on WWII. I am very glad I added this tour to our Munich trip. Well worth it!

Great tour, Nuremberg is a very beautiful city. We were there during Christmas and really enjoyed the holidays markets. Our giude, Jason, was very knowledgeable and he also recommended a really good restaurant where we tried traditional Nurnberg sausages. Highly recommend.

It was a very interesting trip, the problem was that the guide was 40 minutes late and we missed the express train,. so it took two hours to arrive in Nuremberg. He was very good and the rest of the day went well.

This is the only way to see the castle effortlessly. It was far from Munich and this tour takes the effort out of it. I did not care much for the stop over on Oberammergau. It seemed like a waste of time especially as they sped us through Lindor. Some people liked the stop to pick up some trinkets or a cuckoo clock.

Our guide from Munich via train and then walking through Nuremberg was so good; she seemed to know everything and gave us so much information. The experience was one I will never forget; a great tour.

This was a great day trip. Our guide was Jeff and there were only 3 of us taking part in the tour. Because of this we asked Jeff to take us to Court Room 600 where the Nuremberg Trials were held (not normally part of the tour). We had a great day also visiting the Old Town and ZepplinField. Our guide was brilliant and certainly a fountain of knowledge. We would recommend this tour 100% to anybody.

Our tour guide Jason was great. Wished there was more time for us in the museum but there just wasn't enough time in the day. Beautiful city...sad that most of it was destroyed in the war though.

Tour group does a great job with history information. Very thorough. Would have liked to have had the tour include the museum, instead of leaving it as an individual option. We did not do the museum beause it is too much to do on your own without a guide. We missed that part and I would have liked to have seen it.

What a fantastic tour, Jason our tour guide was very knowledgeable about the history of Nuremburg and could answer any of the questions we had.. My mother grew up in Nuremburg during the war and Lium who is also a tour guide was visiting on this tour, helped me find the house where my mother grew up in the 30's. What a treat! I highly recommend this tour to see a beautiful old city that was 90% destroyed during the war come back to life.

My wife, two daughters and I thoroughly enjoyed this trip to Nuremberg. Our guide, Jason, was fantastic. We were in a relatively small group, which made for practically a private tour. Jason's commentaries were very informative and interesting, and he came equipped with books for us to read on the train on our way to Nuremberg, and he also had photographs and other support documenation which he passed around while he was explaining the significance of a particular site. Nuremberg is a beautiful city, and the Nazi Documentation Museum was very interesting and at the same time very sobering. I am confident that this great tour was made even more enjoyable by Jason's great skills as a guide.

Good one day trip, but not a lot of time on your own to explore and was actually hoping to see more of Hitler's and the 3rd Reich sites, but most have been destroyed or small remnants left over.

Nuremberg is a beautiful city, we had a very good travel guide who showed us around and told us about the history, etc. Unfortunately the day was ruined by rain yet it had not dampened our fascination of the city. We will be happy to book trips with you in the future.

Nice trip and excellent guidance from Alun (the one with Welsh spelling, he said, not to be confused with another sounding the same) and Jason. Most travelers on my trip shopped in the free time, but I got a lot out of the documentation center and wished I had more time there.

We had a great tour of Nuremberg from Munich with Viator even though it was chilly and drizzling rain. We saw part of the old walled city and castle, the Nazi marching grounds and documentation center wish we'd had longer for that part, as well as churches and shops. What really made the tour great was our guide, Jason. He was absolutely fantastic!!! Knowledgeable, friendly, and extremely pleasant to talk to and deal with. This was probably my family's favorite day out of our week in Germany.
