Romantic Road, Rothenburg and Harburg Day Tour from Munich

Munich, Germany

Surround yourself with castles and medieval villages as you travel along the Romantic Road during a full day escorted tour from Munich to Harburg and Rothenburg. There's plenty of free time at each stop, so there's plenty of time for lunch and exploring at your own leisurely pace.

Your first stop is Harburg, one of the oldest, largest and best preserved castles of Southern Germany. It was an important military stronghold during the 11th and 12th centuries. Through the Swabian crater landscape passing Dinkelsbuhl, you will arrive in Rothenburg, the most perfectly preserved medieval town in Europe. You will spend about 3 hours in Rothenburg, so there is plenty of time for sightseeing, lunch and shopping.

A popular attraction is the Kathe Wolhfahrt Christmas Store on Herrngasse, a large store open year round where you can purchase ornaments, nutcrackers, and other Christmas items. Many of the highlights in Rothenburg are centered around Marktplatz, such as the Town Hall with its Rothenburg History Museum, and St Jakob's Church, a Gothic building with soaring ceilings filled with light.

You will return to Munich via the Hallertau, the world's largest hop-growing area.

Rothenburg is an amazing town! Our tour guide Ana was extremely nice and gave us great tips. I wish we had more time in this town. It is a place frozen in time.

Rothenburg was such a pleasure and enjoyed the day there very much! This tour makes it easy to get to if you don't want public transportation and gives you enough free time to get a taste of the place and do some shopping too!

Not what I was expecting. Only 2 stops on a whole day of traveling. Guide gave us a bare minimum of information during the entire day. Left to wander around Rothenburg with no guide or information. Would recommend to do this trip in two days and therefore be able to stop at many of the other beautiful places along not just the two we stopped at.

I was very disappointed with this tour. The 'Romantic Road' was merely endless motorway surrounded by industry. Rothenburg was lovely, but our tour guide walked us to the square in the middle of town and left us without maps to stroll around for three hours. It was an extremely long day on the coach, and the air conditioning wasn't working on a very hot day. The tour guide was also extremely disappointing, uninformative and rude to passengers.

Enjoyed the tour except the guide was snippy and rude. And we had to pay another additional fee to visit a castle that wasn't mentioned at all for the tour.

Our tour guide was very good - Michael. I think the trip would have been better had it been strictly to Rothenburg. The stop at Harburg was not that interesting ad it cut out time that could have been better spent exploring Rothenburg. Michael did a great job of letting the group know what the best sights were to see in Rothenburg since our time was limited.

This tour is a long day but we thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. On our way to Rottenburg we visited a fascinating medieval castle and we given plenty of time to complete a thorough tour. On arrival at Rottenburg we had the choice of staying with the guide for an hour or so while he explained the significant aspects of the village or heading off independently. We had plenty of time to absorb the ambience of this beautiful little town before the long journey back to Munich. Our guide was very knowledgeable and very easy to listen to.

The Romantic Road day trip provided great scenery and is highly recommended for those travelers seeking out small Bavarian towns. We first stopped at Wartburg Castle which I felt took up too much of our time. Upon arriving at Rothenburg, we were left with too little time and did not have a chance to explore more of the town. The tour would be better if the stop at Wartburg Castle would be eliminated.

This was booked through a Sight Seeing tour company. The guide pointed out several things along the bus trip route, but did not cover any of the history when we got to Rothenburg. He said we could read about it in the brochure - then left us on our own. The "Romantic Road" was not that at all. It was a major hwy bypassing the small cities. A bit of a disappointment in all and a very long day doing it all. Not worth the time and expense.

Tour guide was very pushy! Rothenburg was great, not enough time there. The guide said she had reserved tables at a lovely restaurant. She said that they were fast----don't fall for it! We were there over an hour and never got our food! Surprise, our guide was served immediately since she was probably getting € kickback! This was time wasted that we could have spent exploring the city.

Very enjoyable day out. Rothenburg quaint old town with wonderful 'olde worlde' shops, especially the toy stores with all the old fashioned handmade toys and dolls, and christmas stores. My husband wants to return and stay there for a weekend break. Very pleasant journey into Harburg and Rothenburg along the Romantic Road, with nice views. Would recommend.

Rothenburg was the most beautiful town that I have ever seen. The houses are very picturesque and it's an amazing place to take lots of photos. For those on a budget, I would recommend bringing your own food because the town is a bit of a tourist trap and food is expensive. I would've loved to have seen people in costumes walking around the town to entertain the tourists, but then that would be a bit like Disney World. Despite the minor negatives, I will still rate the tour 5 stars. In my opinion, not even the Neuschwanstein tour was as good as this one!

It was very well coordinated and Ann, the guide, was very good. Her knowledge and sense of humor were one of the most important factor that made the day. Information was very clear given of what to do and what to see. The bus was very good and toilet provided inside was very useful. It was one of my best tour provider while in Central Europe. The christmas village in Rothenburg is my highlight of the trip so far.

The stop-over on the way to Rothenburg was a awful waste of time and our guide, while a nice fellow, gave us almost nothing in terms of history or what one may wish to see in Rothenburg. I would strongly recommend going along the same route to Rothenburg without any intermediate stops. This would give your patrons more time in Rothenburg, especially if your patrons are to have lunch there. I would cause your guides to provide much more in the way of historical information regarding the town and the places to see.
