Royal Castle of Linderhof and Oberammergau Day Tour from Munich

The smallest of three royal castles, Linderhof was built by King Ludwig II during the 19th century as a hunting lodge. Built in French Rococo style, the castle has a fantastic grotto and Moorish pavilion which can be visited during your two hour stay.

You will then travel to Oberammergau, world-famous for its woodcarvers, richly painted houses (Luftl-paintings) and Passion Play. During the Thirty Years War, after months of suffering and death from the plague, the people of Oberammergau swore an oath to perform the "Play of the Suffering, Death and Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ" every ten years. This tradition has been preserved since then, and the next Passion Play will be performed in 2020.

You will have time for sightseeing and shopping in Oberammergau, before returning to Munich.

Local company cancelled the trip since they thought not enough people showed up which was very disappointing. Viator did refund my money though.

Time spent in Oberammergau was too short due to traffic getting there. Tours should be lengthened for days that traditionally have heavy traffic so that you have enough time to spend in Oberammergau.

A very good trip even though it rained. It was combined with a trip to the mountains, which meant we had to pick up people from a different destination when perhaps we could have spent longer in Oberammergau.

Oberammergau has many neat wood carving shops. Very popular Bavarian trade, very expensive too but they do some pretty fantastic work. The Linderhof castle is the smallest but still neat to see and is on very pretty grounds. You can walk around the grotto and have a nice relaxing day. Beware of tours that charge extra for the entrance to the castles and even overcharge from the rate you'd pay if you walked up and bought them yourself when you got there. They keep from 1-3 euro on top of what you've already paid for the tour.

We had to retake this tour to get to see all of Linderhof Castle. The time in Oberammergau was much too short, and most of the shops were closed.
