Salzburg and Lake District Day Tour from Munich

Munich, Germany

Pass through the Chiemgau before arriving in Salzburg, the birthplace of Mozart. Stroll the picturesque old city and major attractions including Salzburg Cathedral, St Peter's Abbey and Mozart Square.

On Lake Wolfgangsee, there is the possibility of a boat ride to the famous White Horse Inn overlooking the lake, and a visit to the pilgrim church.

What a wonderful day it was! There's only time to see a few things in Salzburg. There is so much history there you would need a few days to see it all so we're going there next year! The Lake District is a beautiful area and the boat ride was fun! It was a great outing!

A great tour. Well organised and plenty of free time. We caught the funicular up to the fort. Gorgeous views but not enough time to do a huge tour of the fort. Enough for us though. We loved the tour of the lake district. Something we wouldn't have done otherwise. The boat trip just added to the day.

Salzburg and lake Wolfgangse are breathtaking. We wish we had more time just to sit down for a coffee on top of Salzburg. The tour was a bit rush but it was the most beautiful tour (apart from the Bernina Express) that we've done in Europe

It was an excellent trip and the guide Charles made it still more exciting. We couldn't have enjoyed this trip had we not gone on a group tour like this. We recommend this trip to all.

The photos on this website of Salzburg, and especially the Lake District DOES NOT DO IT JUSTICE! Salzburg is a nice little town, interesting, and not expensive. The Lake District (and boat trip) was amazing! If you've ever been to Switzerland and loved the scenery, then you're going to love the Lake District. I have never in my life seen a place as green in summer, as the areas surrounding Salzburg (By the way, Salzburg is in Austria)

The lake district was beautiful and well worth the visit. However, there was not enough time in Salzburg to do or see much of anything. If you decide to walk/run across the bridge to quickly view the gardens, you still will not have enough time to explore Salzburg. Viator either needs to extend the time of this tour or separate the Lake District and Salzburg tours into two separate tours.

My wife, two daughters and I thoroughly enjoyed our day trip to Salzburg. Everyone considers this one of the highlights of our European vacation. Although the weather was not perfect, that didn't keep our fantastic tour guide Monika from giving us a fantastic overview of the city, and she even walked with us for a while after we arrived to help us get our bearings (she can't give formal tours of the city due to regulations, but her informal walk really helped to point out signifciant points of interest. The weather improved by the time we took our boat trip in the lake district, which was extremely beautiful. All things considered, Salzburg was a great place to visit, made even more enjoyable by our Monika our fantastic guide.

To be honest I was quite disappointed with this tour!! It said we were going to see some Sound of Music Sites but our tour guide failed to tell us where these sites were until we were back on the bus leaving Salzburg!!! The town itself is quite nice with its open squares but we only came on the tour for the Sound of Music which were not made available to us! The tour guide also lost us and others on more than one occasion as she didn't have a flag in case this problem arose! There was also very little Sound of Music memorabilia within the city itself! But understandingly a lot of Mozart stuff! I think the only thing that saved the day was the cruise down the Lake which was absolutely terrific! If I were you I would save some money and catch a train to Salzburg from Munich!I think you will get more out of it!!That's just my advice! But I know i was not the only one on our tour who was unimpressed with the proceedings of the day!

Although it was raining, it was still a great tour. My intention was to only see Salzburg, but the lake district was a surprisingly nice addition. If your intention is to see the location of the sound of music, then this is not the tour for you.

Charlie the guide was really a pain... and made the trip so boring.... he is old and has an awful way of talking to tourists... making silly and judgemental jokes which I found really rude. His constant loud chatter with the driver was such a mad distraction. Did not give instructions of the meeting point with clarity so, two couples missed the bus. One couple found the bus but the other did not... Very Sad !!!

This tour involved a lovely drive through the countryside on a very nice bus. The problem came when the guide tried to give information on the bus. No one could hear her well. She tried to adjust things, but I could not hear her unless I leaned right under a speaker and my husband never heard anything she said. The guide was strict about when to take pictures and break from the group and though wanting to be helpful, she often sounded annoyed or impatient with people's questions. She also instructed us she was going to collect $ for the boat ride and when we told her we thought it was optional, she impatiently indicated that it was just not acceptable NOT to go on it. Other than that, she did know a lot about the city of Salzburg and it was amazing to be there and see the sites. The boat ride was beautiful and the restaurant near Lake Wolfgang had a beautiful view and great food.

Ive been to Europe on several occasions and Salzburg. This tour made my last trips seem like a waste. I wish the tour would have left earlier so that you could spend more time in Salzburg, but the Lake District is the most beautoful place on earth. The tour guide is amazing as well and very imformative. 10 out of 10!

Unfortunately the tour in Salzburg wasn't a good experience. Our guide didn't accompany as to see the city and the time previewed to see the city wasn't sufficient considering that nothing was organized. We have spent a lot of time to travel in bus to see nothing in Salzburg. _br/_ The visit in Lake District was a beautiful experience and very good organized.

We were on the tour on the 26 April. The coach ride was comfortable and well run even though the tour operators at the Main train station(Hauptbahnhof) are cheaper most likely due to them using the train and not a private bus. This I think would be worth the difference paid if it was not for the tour guide who did not have a good grasp of English and making silly comments in English not related to the sights at all. Also once in Salzburg her knowledge of dates of historical sites was not good , she had to pause at the main square to look at the 3 different dates when the churches where rebuilt amongst other things In my country you reward good service with a sizable tip (15-25%) but I did it not feel it deserved a tip, the last straw was when they announced to please give a gratuity. We however gave a tip only because the driver drove well and not because we enjoyed the trip. When I booked the tour the thing that caught my eye was that the tour guide was in English, but I guess there are different perceptions of what you feel is an adequate level.

A great day trip. Salzburg is a beautiful small city. The 3 hours went by very quickly. The trip to Salzburg alone is worth an entire day at a minimum. Next was the stop Lake Wolfgangsee with some time to see the town prior to the boat tour. The trip on the lake reveals scenery beyond words. It's incredibly beautiful. On the way back to Munich you pass the area where the Sound of Music was filmed. Do yourself a favor and take this tour.

The lake district is a fairy tale land. Salzburg is quaint and I enjoyed all the reminders that Mozart lived there. The tour allowed enought time for us to wonder through this historical and quaint area. Bus driver was responsible and I highly recommend this tour to anyone in the Munich area.

The description of how to find the bus for the tour is accurate, it is very easy to find. Almost impossible to miss. The buses are double Decker comfortable coaches. The rides are always relaxing. I recommend bringing a personal guide book and map with you. As your guide is there walking with your group but there are rules and regulations in this city about tour guides that will restrict some activities that you might expect. The city is beautiful. I recommend that you have comfortable shoes on, and dress for changing weather. For lunch I recommend going to a food stall in the market, great price, great food (as long as you like sausage) and if the stall has a long line, it is worth waiting as the sausages are better (you will see when you go there, some stalls will have no one, others will have a dozen or two in line.) I also recommend taking the boat tour. Very cold if you are outside, but great views.

Another greta outing. This time with Alun. The group was slightly too big but he tried his best to get the folk to enjoy it. At times I felt a bit rushed. It may be a good idea if the guides have a better way to identify them in a distance - board or something, Alun made use of his umbrella - a prectical solution. Recoomend the tour

Wish we had a little more time in Salzburg, we just about had time to walk around, grab a quick bite and eat on the go. LOVED Wolfgangsee, so beautiful. If possible, I'd consider starting the tour a little earlier to allow for more time.

Overall not a great trip. First, there is no tour in Salzburg: they are not licensed to do this therefore you are totally on your own and they don't park anywhere near the center: you walk to it. We went during "vacation season" and the highway was backed up so they took side roads. Nice scenery but we got to Salzburg so late we only had a little time to do sightseeing - not enough time for lunch even. We went all the way back to the meeting place and then our bus was more than 30 minutes late picking us up due to construction I guess. So we got the boat with only 15 minutes before it left, went across, and immediately got back on the bus. No sightseeing. Rediculously rushed and don't fall behind becuase you'll get lost. Speaking of lost, they also forgot an elderly lady and her son who didn't want to take the boat ride (FYI if you opt for no boat ride it costs a fortune in cab fare to get you to the other side!) So even though the boat isn't included, pay for it. We circled back to get the people we forgot. If you do go, sit on the left (passenger) side of the bus for the better views. Next time I will take the train and go it alone...

The scenery on the drive from Munich to Salzburg is beautiful. On this particular day, our guide was willing but her English was heavily accented and difficult to understand over the public address system. The travel time to and from is lengthy and I would advise taking a panoramic van tour of Salzburg upon arrival (which I did) as there is not enough time to see the city by foot.

Just as expected, our tour started promptly in an immaculately clean motorcoach. Our tour guide, Petra, couldn't have been more friendly and knowledgable. She gave the most informative narration, freely answered questions, and kept things light and humorous. We loved Salzburg but loved the St. Wolfsburg and the boat trip on the lake even more. Absolutely outstanding experience. Do yourself a favor and take this tour.
