French Quarter Walking Tour

New Orleans, United States of America

Discover the 'real' history and legends of the Creole people that make up the mysterious neighborhood of the French Quarter. Saunter down the sidewalk's of Royal, Bourbon and other quaint streets named after both saints and sinners. Your licensed guide will point out the architecture, homes, and legends of the historic French Quarter, originally settled by the French in the early 1700's.

Let a 'local expert' unravel the mysteries of America's oldest and most unique living neighborhood!

  • Follow in the footsteps of historic figures as you stroll along the Mighty Mississippi, through the French Market and Jackson Square, down the banquettes (sidewalks) of quaint streets named after European saints and sinners.
  • See the old Quarter come to life as your guide explains its secrets and helps you understand all it has to offer - architecture, courtyards, food, music, art and gardens.
  • Includes a guided tour of the Old Ursuline Convent and Gardens, the oldest building in the Mississippi River Valley, as well as one of the few surviving buildings from French colonial days.
  • Learn about yellow fever, voodoo, and the often grisly medical practices of the 19th century, such as leeches and bloodletting.
  • Conclude your tour in the shady comfort of the newly renovated courtyard with its medicinal herb garden.

Fun and informative, especially when you first arrive in the city. But there were so many tours going, there were groups at every corner of the Quarter, day and night, all with a guide with a slightly different story competing to be heard.

This was a good tour, but the guide was a little slow. I was expecting more history and unknown-to-the-general-public kinds of facts. The best part was the opportunity to tour the Ursuline Convent, which I would never have discovered on my own. The tour was definitely worth doing, but by the time I took the tour, I had found most of the places on my own.

We had a fantastic afternoon touring the French Quarter. I attribute this to our guide. She had great information about the city and its history and she interjected some humor. Honestly she made the entire tour well worth it. This is a great tour if you want to really see the quarter and learn about New Orleans and its history. I would highly recommend this tour.

This was an interesting tour although a guide seemed to have trouble keeeping up her energy level. I have taken the walking tour with the Friends of the Cabildo and found it to be more interesting.
