Garden District Walking Tour

New Orleans, United States of America

Join a walking tour through one of New Orleans' most exclusive areas - the Garden District. This 'American' section of town was built to rival the architectural splendor of the Creoles' French Quarter! View the homes of former Mardi Gras kings and queens, Lafayette Cemetery and more on this 2.5 hour tour.

New Orleans' only walking tour with a state-of-the-art audio system so you hear every word!

  • Take a "Stroll through Elegance" with a licensed tour guide through the "American" section of New Orleans!
  • The Garden District was built by the "barbarian" Americans to rival the architectural splendor of the Creoles' French Quarter.
  • This elegant area is known for its marvelous examples of Greek Revival and Italianate architecture.
  • View the homes of former Kings and Queens of Mardi Gras in this area-once part of the plantation owned by Bienville, the founder of New Orleans.
  • Hear fascinating stories about local author Anne Rice as you walk past one of her former homes.
  • Includes a refreshment stop at a local neighborhood cafe.
  • Visit Lafayette Cemetery, one of our "Cities of the Dead", and learn about the unusual above ground burial system (cemetery closed on Saturday afternoons, Sundays and some holidays).

Please Note: The audio system will not be used during inclement weather.

I thoroughly enjoyed my walking tour! I'd rate it a 10 out of 10. The tour guide was wonderful (excellent tour guide, I think her name was Jill?). Keep up the great service.

Our guide Pat was great, she was very knowledgeable about the area. We really enjoyed the walking tour and the narrative. The time just seemed to fly by. She was able to answer any question that our group brought up and she even went the extra mile to look up the sales price of some of the homes before the tour started (that were for sale). I would reccommend this tour to anyone.

Unfortunately, this tour was cancelled due to lack of participants. Instead I was offered the City and Katrina tour. This tour was good however, the motorcoach we were riding in was too big to go down any of the side streets.

This tour was run by Gray Line tours and it was wonderful. The tour guide was knowledgable and moved the tour along at a good pace. We learned and saw a lot and it was definitely worth the money. I highly recommend it. One note bring a bottle of water. You stop quickly at the end of the tour for a refreshment but it does get hot along the walk.

The Beautiful Garden City with it's rich history and architecture is something I personally recommend, if you would like to get out of the French Quarters for a while. Our Guide was a fountain of information and made this for a very pleasant morning stroll.

Any lover of historic homes will thoroughly enjoy this tour. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable about the area and provided us with many details related to the history, architecture, ownership, and even price range of these beautiful old homes. The best part was walking the neighborhoods--it certainly gives a much more intimate view of the homes and gives opportunity to see things that would be missed in a vehicle. The worst part, ironically, is the walking. Due to time constraints, we at times had to rush through certain areas. Plus it allows exposure to the elements; the day we went it was drizzling and down in the 30's. Keep this in mind when you prepay this tour, depending upon the season. And remember, the tours are conducted despite the weather--no refunds are given.

This was a delightful way to be introduced to this section of the city. The tour guide was entertaining, personable, and has a lot of knowledge of the history, and there's tons of history in this city! Even the bus driver, who I assume was also a tour guide as well, had much to say about the history while we were waiting to begin. I will recommend this to my friends!

My wife and I took the tour and absolutely loved. As residents of New Orleans, we learned more about the history of the city than we had before.

The tour was great. We were given a lot of history about New Orleans and the French Quarter. We were also given a lot of history about specific homes in the Garden District. It is a beautiful part of the city and I would recommend this tour to anyone traveling to New Orleans.
