Swamp and Bayou Sightseeing Tour

New Orleans, United States of America

New Orleans has abundant wildlife, and nowhere is it more apparent than in the swamps and bayous of Louisiana. Take a boat ride through these swamps and you may see alligators, raccoons, snakes and native birds. You'll hear stories of the local Cajuns and how they created gumbo, now a New Orleans tradition.

After a short motorcoach ride across the Mississippi River, take a fascinating boat trip into the Louisiana Swamps and Bayous.

  • Experience the timeless beauty of Southern Louisiana in a custom built, all weather swamp boat.
  • Native guides will reveal the mysteries of the swamps and bayous and the Cajun "joie de vivre".
  • Hear how the Cajuns turned soup into gumbo, the washboard into a musical instrument, and the swamps of Louisiana into a paradise.
  • Observe the nesting grounds of alligators, egrets, raccoons, nutria, and many species of snakes. Some wildlife are more numerous during the warmer months of the year.
  • You will be treated to a Bayou Nature Wildlife Show by a local naturalist. Snakes, alligator snapping turtles, raccoons and nutria will be among the animal guests.
  • Learn about the efforts made to preserve and restore Louisiana's vanishing wetlands.
  • Bring your camera to capture the "bon temps" (good times) on the bayou.

This tour was ok. We saw two or three smaller alligators. The boat Captain had a corny, and clean sense of humor...good for kids and adults. Going late in December is not recommended as the bigger alligators were hibernating, and it was cold.

Very good trip. Had a lovely Captain who was really jolly and informative. Saw some alligators too but wanted to see a really big one. But didn't spoil the trip at all. Even able to hold a baby alligator and have your own photo taken with it. Great transport to and fro swamp and very good organisation. So a MUST for all visitors

We did see aligators but not so much of the life of a cajun living in the swamp stories which would have made it more interesting

Awesome tour! We boarded the bus in the french quarter near Jackson Square. A 35 minute drive brought us to a landing in the swamp. Restrooms, drinks and souvenirs where available After everybody was on the boat, the tour started. Our tour guide was absolutely awesome - funniest tour I've ever had. We saw 15-20 Alligators during the 2 hour tour and learned a lot about them and the Bayou in general. They even had a small alligator on the boat that we could take pictures with. If you want to see the Bayou and its animals, this tour is the way to go!

I could have skipped this one, but had to see for myself. If you have toured Key West or Costa Rica you could skip this one, we did see many alligators but that is about it. Man made canals - borinng!. The tour guide was great and made it as fun as possible.

The tour was interesting, saw even more alligators than we expected. The tour guide was knowledgeable. We did not like that he showed us a small alligator, taped its mouth and let everyone to hold it.

We were lucky that the weather was extremely nice on our tour day. Although not particularly full of excitement, the boat tour was smooth and enjoyable. If you have never attended this tour before, it's worth going at least for once.

This was an interesting tour, but misleading by name. You actually ride down a man made canal not a Bayou. When the canal reached a Bayou the boat turned around and returned back to its starting point. However, it was still an interesting tour.

I lost count of all the alligators we saw. We also saw lots of birds and several turtles. Our boat captain did a wonderful job of teaching about the ecosystem and the plants, animals and people who make their living in the swamp. It was a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon.

The bayou tour was interesting and we saw quite a few alligators. The tour would be more enjoyable at a cooler time of the year, as the heat of the summer detracted from the fun of the tour.

We were worried about the heat, but there was a nice cross breeze that day. The provider was a true Bayou man, and we had a great time. The bus was nicely air-conditioned, unlike the crowded van that we used for another tour. Plenty of alligators--they have a sweet tooth, I learned, and are smart!

First time on a swamp tour so I expected more. Saw plenty of alligators but thought I would see and learn more of the history of living on the bayou. For the price it was not worth it.

This tour is something! Do you know the difference between alligators and crocodiles? I didn't before, but now I am an expert in alligators. I even had a chance to hold one myself. I would recommend this tour as one to take while in New Orleans.

It was great, the kids loved the trip. We saw quite a few gators, snakes, turtles, and birds. The captain was very interesting with stories of living and fishing on the Bayou. It was also interesting to see the changes in the swamp from Katrina. Thanks for the fun!
