Westbank Plantation Tour

New Orleans, United States of America

Journey back in time to the Antebellum South with a tour of two separate plantations. First, visit Oak Alley Plantation, which has been called the "Grande Dame of the Great River Road". Next, tour Laura Plantation, a historic sugar plantation built in 1805 displaying a different and unique culture.

On your ride out to Oak Alley Plantation, you will see and hear all about Whitney, Josephine, and Evergreen Plantations. Your guided tour of Oak Alley Plantation will allow you time to admire this jewel of Greek Revival architecture. The quarter-mile canopy of giant live oak trees, believed to be nearly 300 years old, forms an impressive avenue leading to the classic Greek-revival style antebellum home.

Next visit Laura, a Creole Plantation and her historic slave quarters surrounded by sugar cane fields. The guided tour transports you with dramatic detail into the charmed yet tragic lives of four generations of Creole owners and their slaves.

These two very different plantations showed two different sides of the industry: Laura focussed a lot on slave life and we toured slave accomodations; Oak Alley represented the grandeur and elegance of owning a plantation. I recommend this tour to anyone visiting New Orleans.

The first tour of the Local Creole plantation was excellent. The tour guide brought it all to life and helped you understand the challenges of the family and politics. The second plantation was very beautiful, but the guides did not share the passion that brought it all to life. Still worth seeing for the beauty.

Laura plantation tor was fantastice...excellent and entertaining guide. Oak Alley tour was boring and guide was overly dramatic and not likeable...seemed as if she was performing in a play. Would not reccommend Oak Alley tour.

Ginnie who took us to the plantations was one of the best guides we have ever had, she was very entertaining and taught us so much of the history of New Orleans, she made the long drive go very fast. At Laura the young guide was very good, Oak Alley was more 'touristy' and organised but still great.

Our tour guide Rose made this a very enjoyable and educational experience. Not to be missed. The ride to the plantations was a little longer than anticipated, but Rose kept us entertained.

This tour is great. It took most of the day, but it was well worth it. Having the van pick us up and drop us off at our hotel was a big plus! The plantations are beautiful, and it was fun pretending to be Scarlett O'Hara for a while! Our guide was very nice and informative. She answered our questions with great enthusiasm.

Great plantations to visit. Good choice between the Laura Plantation which is very Creole West Indies style, and then Oak Alley which is very Anglo white columns sort of structure. Tour slightly expensive since you are mostly paying for the admission and the ride there. Part of me wishes I rented a car out there and did another 2 to 3 plantations that day. All in all good tour, very worth visiting.

Very interesting to see the contrast between the Lara Plantation and Oak Alley. Two very different lifestyles by sugar planters of the same era.

Pleasant, relaxed guide, all worked like clockwork. Both plantations were worth seeing. Laura was my favourite, especially the slave cabins, but it was good to see both to be able to compare them. This was the only tour I could find which visits 2 plantations, and since they're only 5 min drive from each other, it's a very good idea. Great company to choose.

These plantations are fantastic. We originally booked this tour on Viator, but it was canceled due to lack of bookings. We found another operator who did the same tour, though. Don't visit New Orleans without visiting the plantations.
