Best of Brooklyn Sightseeing, Food and Culture Tour

New York City, United States of America

What better way to explore the ethnic diversity of New York City than this exclusive history, culture and gastronomy lesson on a varied international bus and walking tour of Brooklyn. Take a trip back in time and around the world and see a part of New York City you probably didn't even know existed!

It's been said that "A trip to Brooklyn is like a trip around the world". It's truly amazing how many people visit New York City and miss out on Brooklyn - don't be one of them.

The neighborhoods you'll be visiting on the Best of Brooklyn Food and Culture Walking Tour include:

  • Williamsburg & Greenpoint, home to many ethnic groups and a thriving art community where you'll be enjoying delectable foods from authentic local ethnic eateries
  • DUMBO - stop and get to sample scrumptious chocolate at the Jacques Torres chocolate factory, and visit Brooklyn Bridge Park - excellent view of Manhattan's famous skyline
  • Sunset Park - featuring a plethora of Latin American food establishments for a picnic in the park style lunch featuring the "Cuban" sandwich

Your journey with an experienced, knowledgeable native New Yorker will show you the most fascinating areas in New York City. Begin in the historic West Village, the past and present home to some of the city's most influential residents, then venture across the Williamsburg Bridge to Brooklyn, where the rest of your tour takes place.

The tour is run in English however, since the tour is mostly visual, it can work wonderfully even if you have only a basic understanding of English.

Well worth it. Pick up location was easy to find, we were picked up promptly and issued with bottles of water. Van was lovely and warm and despite it being a holiday in NYC, we still got to try some great food. Isaac was extremely informative and friendly. Great way to see NYC/Brooklyn and get some insider information. Totally recommend.

Isaac was a fantastic tour guide and host - personable, relaxed and knowledgable. Really loved the fact that this tour takes you to the places that you would never have found by yourself - so lets you immerse yourself in the 'real' culture of the city rather than the tourist traps. Hint: don't have breakfast on the morning of this tour - you will need all the stomach space you can get!

this is a fine tour. (it was our second time on this tour, with Isaac.) the food is delicious and ethnically varied --and quite sufficient. Isaac's discussion of the historical and cultural background of the people and places of Brooklyn, alone, is worth the fare--even the second time around.

Isaac, our tour guide, was knowlegeable and passionate about the city. The group of people randomly assembled were like old friends in a few minutes. The stops were interesting, the food was great. The only downside of the tour was that it ended. A great value and a great time.

Issac made a rainy day into a wonderful day with his great personality, his knowledge of Brooklyn and all things food related, and his passion for the subject. I've taken tours like this in New York and all over the world and he may be the best I've ever seen. I lived around New York for 50 years and saw things in the Lower East Side and Brooklyn that I never knew were there. Highly recommended for visitors or New Yorkers.

This was a great tour - very worthwhile. Isaac was very enthusistic about his town and took us to a variety of food stops including my favourite, Russ and Daughters. I enjoyed the sights of Brooklyn especially as my grandmother lived there for a long time I could experience her neighbourhood.

Great tour with a very knowledgeable guide. The food was fantastic! We were introduced to many ethnic food items and places that I otherwise would have missed out on. In addition to the food experience our guide gave us an insider's view of the changes taking place in the old neighborhoods - both good and bad. For example, our first stop was for a knish, which I'd never had. The building (in Manhattan at the start of the tour) of the restaurant had an amazing history but we learned that sadly, due to development, its days are numbered. We learned a lot of history, culture, etc. that only a native can provide.

Due to Hurricane Irene delaying our trip from Chicago to New York we had to contact the operators expecting the tour to be cancelled but instead they offered us the opportunity to change the date to suit us. We eventually did an alternative tour and the operator provided us a fantastic tour, we missed nothing and I am sure he gaves us more than he should have but we were very appreciative of his pleasant nature. You must not miss this tour.

We booked this combination bus/walking tour to expand our knowledge of the NYC area. We were not disappointed. The tour leader was Isaac and if he is not leading your tour, you are missing out. He is passionate about his job and dedicated to making sure everyone on the tour has an outstanding experience. He grew up in Brooklyn, knows the borough like the back of his hand and is generous about sharing his vast knowledge of the area. The food stops were excellent as well. This tour is an ethnic food extravaganza and can be enjoyed by all age groups. If you are looking for a tour of 5 Star Restaurants with a bunch of arrogant travelers, you will be disappointed. If you are looking to get a real feel for one of the true melting pots of the world led by a down to earth young man, you will be delighted. Thanks Isaac.

I never thought I would enjoy an organized/guided tour with a bunch of other tourists. However, I was more than pleasantly surprised by this experience and I will be doing a lot more of these types of tours when I travel near and far. It was a great mix of interesting information on new and historic New York, a really easy/comfortable way to cover a ton of ground, and the variety of food was just right. For me it was gastro approach to experience a cross section of some of the cultures that make up diverse NYC, particularly Brooklyn (the knish, which was a fabulous first time experience for me of this simple but delicious "peasant" food, was consumed in Manhattan). Isaac was absolutely great - very knowledgeable, entertaining and offered a local's perspective that covered several decades (it was interesting to hear his thoughts on how the city is transforming, good and bad, and how that impacts residents). Try to ensure your guide is Isaac. The tour itself is good but he really makes it special.

This was one of the best tours I've ever done. Thoroughly enjoyed it! Our guide, Isaac was very easy going, funny and informative and he took us to some great places around the lower east side and Brooklyn. We had a great lunch in the Polish district and I enjoyed eating my first cuban sandwich in a picnic setting overlooking a fantastic view of Manhattan. I feel as though I got a good look at a different side of New York, one which I would never have seen by myself.

Another great way to see a different side of NY. If you like food, then this is a must. We had some varieties, but the Cuban sandwich was great, and it was nice to eat it on top of a hill overlooking Manhattan. Wouldn't mind living in this nect of the woods.

This was a great tour and a chance to see areas outside of Manhattan when time is limited. We had a small group so it was very personal. All the tastings were great, and some of the views of the city from Brooklyn were breathtaking. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and we actually went over our time with everyone's approval because there's so much to see. I would highly recommend this tour. There was a reasonable amount of walking, but we covered most of the ground in a vehicle....having a recent knee injury, this was good for me. It's totally manageable and not like some of the other tours that are 4 hours on your feet.

I never would have believed such diversity existed within a stone's throw of Manhattan. As we visited different neighborhoods in Brooklyn, our guide introduced us to the history, tastes, customs and lifestyles of the people residing there. I felt like I had stepped into another country. I was cognizant of being a foreigner in my own homeland but was grateful that such diversity was acknowledged, respected and embraced in the tour. The food was as genuine as it gets in both taste and venue! The guide imparted a wealth of information and laced it with interesting anecdotes and occasional humor. If you take the tour in mid-winter, you are more apt to find smaller groups and consequently more intimate interactions and modes of transportation. Dress for the weather! It is a "taste" of Brooklyn you don't want to miss.
