Philadelphia and Amish Country Day Trip from New York

New York City, United States of America

Explore the countryside outside New York on a day trip to Philadelphia and Lancaster County, home of the Amish people. You'll drive through the beautiful Pennsylvania countryside, tour Philadelphia and its famous Liberty Bell and Independence Hall, and take an ride in an authentic Amish buggy.

Departing New York City, you'll drive through New Jersey and Pennsylvania to the City of Brotherly Love, Philadelphia. It's the second largest city on the East Coast, and only 100 miles (160 kilometers) from New York City.

Upon arrival in Philadelphia, you will embark on a panoramic tour that includes Benjamin Franklin Parkway, Elsert Alley (the oldest inhabited street in America) and more. Arriving in the historic heart of Philadelphia, you'll visit the famous Liberty Bell and Constitution Square and Hall, symbols of freedom in America.

Departing Philadelphia you will see the famous "Rocky Steps" before continuing to Lancaster County. After a break for lunch at the Amish marketplace (lunch not included), you'll have an authentic Amish buggy ride through Amish farm country. During the ride you'll learn how the Amish live without modern technology - no electricity, running water, telephone service or appliances.

In the late afternoon your tour heads east for an evening arrival in New York.

We were very happy with this tour. the guide and driver were first class and the pace of the tour was comfortable. we had plenty of time in Philadelphia and an interesting time with the Amish. Our buggy ride was more than 30 minutes. It's a long day, but worth it.

Excellent - a pity about the weather, but that can't be helped. Comfortable coach, informative courier. Interesting insight into the Amish way of life I hadn't known about. Would reccomend!

Tried to make the best of this one - but the tour guides let us down. Although asked to be on english speaking tour, ended up with multi-lingual tour with little regard to translate to english all the info given. Not the lest day.

For the money, this trip was a wonderful value. It was only one day, but we had an excellent guide and were able to tour all of the key sites of Philadelphia, and then took a charming buggy ride in Amish Country, viewing homes, farms and lifestyle of these charming people. Our driver and guide were excellent, particularly the guide who, although foreign, was easy to understand and was very informative!

to be honest I thought that the experience would have been better. We spent only a couple of hours in Philadelphia and had time to see only a couple of things. I am not enthusiastic also of the Amish village: there is very few "original Amish things": the most we have seen and experienced has been studied and built for the tourists

This was a good day out if you want to escape the city. I booked this primarily to see Amish country, but I enjoyed Philadelphia much more than I thought I would! I would have preferred more time at the Amish market/shopping area, an hour actually felt quite rushed. I had just enough time to browse and buy some souvenirs (including lovely homemade Amish jam!), but it would have been nice to have an extra half hour or so to stop and have some food too, as it was a long ride back and we had had brunch much earlier in the day. So make sure to eat plenty then to keep you going!!

Loved the Philadelphia and Amish Country Day, tour guides were excellent!.As I needed my wheelchair for long distances the chair was always by the door of the coach when I got of and folded up and put in the locker when I got back on the coach. Well done Guys!!!!

the tour was really worthwhile. the ride was beautiful and the town was worth the ride. we would have liked an option to pay additional to get a ride to/from our hotel. we were surprised that the tour guides asked for tips for the driver and each other.

This tour is more about Philly than Amish. My personal opinion is I would prefer to have less time in Philly and more time in Amish. The horse and carriage ride was interesting and I loved hearing the stories about their way of life. Our tour guide was amazing, went informative.

We had the best tour guide on this trip, Elie, very well informed and oh so entertaining!!_br/_ It had something for everyone and the Amish part was something I'll never forget, such peaceful and contented people._br/_ It's a long day ,13 hours all up, so don't make big plans for the evening, you'll be exhausted!

This tour could have been organised much better. There was confusion at the initial meeting place, nobody knowing where we were supposed to be waiting for the bus as it seemed there were people waiting in this area for many different buses. The tour guides did not have any sort of system in place to ensure that we knew exactly where we needed to be waiting - a sign stating the tour name would have been of great help. _br/_ The liberty bell part of the tour took a lot of time, most of which was spent waiting in lines and waiting for others to catch up. It would have been more efficient if we had been given a couple of hours to wander around by ourselves, spending more time at those exhibits we found most interesting. This part of the tour did not hold much significance or interest to us so before booking, make sure this is what you want to do._br/_ The Amish country part of the tour was enjoyable and included a buggy ride and some time at tourist shops. There was not much explanation of the history of Amish life or much demonstration of their current way of life.

it was very nice. We saw the liberty bell, the area where the constitution was framed,Betsey Ross home, and the Amish. I wished tat we had more time to go inside the home.

It was a long day but a good day. We learnt a lot about the foundation of the USA and those men who drove the processes of joining the 13 colonies into a "Federation". The visits to the historic sites in Philadelphia were good value and the visit to Lancaster county and the Amish area was special. We were so impressed with the tour and the guide, who was very knowledgable, that we asked the guide to make a booking on the Washington tour the following day. The only downside was that it was a very long day made longer by the difficulty of getting into NYC the day after the 10th anniversary of 9/11.

Travelling time to and from destination very long but Philadelphia good. Amish part of the trip was great and made the day worthwhile. Both trips finished before late lunch and straight after lunch returned to New York, would have tried to split the day up better.

A great day out. Could have spent longer in Philadelphia but the trip to Amish Country should not be missed. Look out for the manipulation of the children whilst you are on the pony ride. When you hear "we have cookies for 2 dollars and root beer for 2 dollars", you will know what I mean. An interesting day and a photo with Rocky is a must

We had a great time taking in all the history in Philadelphia. The Amish country trip was fantastic and we loved that part as well. We were warned to wait for lunch at the Amish Village which we did and the food there was fantastic. The only thing we did not like was the buffet stop in Philadelphia. It did not have the range of food and drink we liked.

I would have rated this 5 stars, but the Philadelphia part was more a 3 star. Positives were the guided tour ride in the bus, very comfortable and friendly guide. I was disappointed that we did not go into the Independence Hall because the line was too long, we went to some other buildings instead. The rest of the tour was as described, somewhat quick but we saw the main attractions. Now, the Amish Country experience was definitely a 5. We had such a wonderful time riding in the buggy with an Amish gentleman and he answered all of our questions and gave us a very nice tour. Our shopping trip to town was also nice. I would recommend making a way so groups can always enter the Independence Hall. Our guide was great.

We had a great tour guide which made all of the difference. The thing that bugged me most.....was they ask you to be there 10 minutes or so before departure.....but we didn't leave until 7:20am.....which is a big difference at that time of the morning. Otherwise the tour was worthwhile - shame we didn't get more opportunity to spend time with the Amish people and actually ask questions and really see how they live.

Very interesting visit to Philadelphia I was a little bit disappointed that our visit to Amish did not include a closer contact with these people, like a visit to a farm, local museum, etc.

We did 2 trips, the Washington Day Trip and this one. Both were worthwhile! This is a lot shorter than the Washington trip and everything is very central. I would recommend that you make all the buildings in the "old city" part of the tour those ones that we didn't see, you need to purchase tickets for. Perhaps your company could prepay to avoid queues.
