Oahu Grand Circle Island Day Tour with Dole Plantation
Oahu, United States of America
From jagged green mountains to sparkling ocean and pristine beaches, see Oahu's most stunning sites on a full-day tour that circles the island. Visit the North Shore, the Dole Plantation, Byodo-In Temple, Diamond Head, the Halona Blowhole, Hanauma Bay, Nu'uanu Pali and more as you travel with a knowledgeable local guide. Learn about the history of Hawaii and its amazing natural wonders for a memorable experience of beautiful Oahu.
Start your full-day tour of Oahu with morning pickup at your Waikiki hotel and set out in a deluxe air-conditioned coach with an expert guide.
Leaving Honolulu, drive past the ritzy Kahala area en route to the Amelia Earhart Lookout, named in honor of the famous aviator who in 1935 completed the first successful solo flight from Honolulu to the continental US, landing in California. Take in panoramic views of the 350-acre (142-hectare) volcanic crater that forms Diamond Head and watch surfers catching waves in the ocean below.
Down the road, stop at the lookout over Hanauma Bay, a marine nature reserve known for calm clear waters with excellent snorkeling. Then stop for a look at the Halona Blowhole and hope to see a geyser-like spray of water rocket into the air.
Travel into the hills to reach the Nu'uanu Pali lookout where you are treated to sweeping views of Kanehoe Bay and Kailua Bay. Continue to Byodo-In Temple, a smaller-scale replica of a 950-year-old Buddhist temple in Uji, Japan. The stunning site, which features ornate temple buildings with a golden Buddha statue that stands more than nine feet (three meters) tall, is tucked into the foothills of the Ko'olau Mountains.
Back on the road, enjoy great views of Mokoli'l Island (Chinaman's Hat), Kahana Bay and the beaches along the North Shore of Oahu. Visit Sunset Beach and Waimea Bay, made famous in the 1960s when big-wave surfing took hold here. In the winter, the beaches still draw surfers from around the world.
Head inland to the Dole Plantation, where you have time to stroll around the lush tropical gardens, marvel at the range of pineapple varieties, try samples of the succulent fruits and browse the gift shop.
During the day, take a 1-hour break to purchase lunch at a sit-down restaurant. Your tour ends with drop off at your hotel in the evening.
We had a fantastic driver who was informative and funny. The sights were spectacular and this trip gives a great overview of the island. Highly recommended.

Excellent. You must have our tour guide, Nappy! He was amazing and very comical. Very disappointed when we got to the Dole Plantation. When talking to agent about this trip, they said we would get samples of fresh pineapple when we arrive..... instead it was over $7 to buy a pineapple. Thought that was a bit steep.

Excellent day - and the tour guide/driver - Ed - was brilliant. A great way to see the Island - especially for a first timer!

My husband and I had a wonderful day. The tour guide (Kim) was really good. Thank you from Shirley and Charlie in Gibraltar.

the tour bus driver (Eddie or olie) was fantastic, did the air craft emergency proceedure when we got on the bus and that set the mood for the whole day, there was a joke in every conversation. he was very informative and we saw alot of the island which was fantastic. Highly recommend it.

The guide (Dennis I think his name was) was very good he had a great knowledge of Hawaii and was able to answer all questions asked by the tourist. The only negative was not being able to get out of the bus to see the turtles and perhaps not being taken on a tour around the pineapple plantation and taken to the other side of the ranch which I here should not be missed.

I like taking tours where you get an idea of the whole of where you are visiting. This was a lively, informative day.

Long day, (w/2-11yr olds) but very informative._br/_
Wished we could of stayed longer at the Dole Pineapple Plantation to do the maze (for the kids)_br/_
EAT at the Ranch, we didn't, but should have, everything smelled amazing! (next time!)_br/_
Great family tour, a little bit of everything for everybody.

This was a terrific tour and we enjoyed everything! My only recommendation would be to somehow allow more time at the Temple, which was more lovely and fascinating than we'd imagined!

A great introduction to the island.

I don't remember our driver's name, but he is one dedicated tour guy that I've ever met! There are about 50 people on our bus, he is not only driver, but using every minute he could to introduce us the surroundings and the city. He is non-stop talking... very knowledgable about the local places and hardworking. We have 8 people in our group, we were all amazed by his energy level and dedication. thank you tour guy!

Quite a good way to see a lot of the island, but it felt a bit rushed and because some people were late back to the coach we had to miss out one of the stops.
Review by: Steven S, August 2012
Trip is too long. Dole plantation not worth the visit. All we really saw was the store. Trip to some ranch terrible. The Buddhist temple great though.
Review by: CHERYLL E, August 2012
The trip around the island was quite fascinating and interesting. The driver was very informative when he described the places of interests. I strongly recommend it!

The driver had a great knowledge and was able to keep people interested the whole day. The right combination of stops and time spend at every point. _br/_
The big downside were the sits at the far end of the bus – as they are located only on a left hand side of the bus – the right hand side is completely blocked by the toilet and you can only observe left hand window for the whole day. I believe those sits shouldn’t be booked at all as half of your trip is simply lost – every time the driver tells you to look right you feel completely fooled.

An easy paced day trip. Driver 'Nappy' was very entertaininmg and informative. Plenty of comfort stops and stops at attractions for photo taking. A pleasant lunch stop with a large range of food selections and sightseeing made at Kohala Ranch. Got to see all the big surf beaches I had only heard about. Worth the price.

A wonderful day out, this was our 7th visit to the Island and have visited other islands, as before the driver was very knowledgeable, helpful and courteous. Have used Viator on many many occasions no problems.

This was an excellent tour. The driver was punctual, very personable, knowledgeable, and did an overall excellent job. The price was very reasonable for this tour. We would've liked a little more time at the North Shore, but we were overall very pleased.

This was good, spoiled for us by the bus breaking down and having to wait 1hr for another bus in front of a tent village - however, the driver still made sure we went to all stops_br/_
The lunch stop was good

A good cross-section of Oahu. Interesting and an amusing personalised narration. A full and fullfilling day.

Leo our driver was very knowledgeable and provided a lot of information. Parts of the tour were a little long and the day seemed to drag on. Lunch at Kualoa was very ordinary and too much time spent here. Also the stop at Hawaiian Market was a waste of time. I'm sure we could have used the time to stop at other key points of interest.

Ernie was a great tour gude. Loved the fact that it was a 26-seater bus rather than a large tour bus. He was able to take us into places we wouldn't have been able to on the large bus. The stops along the coast of Oahu were spectacular. Lunch at the ranch was okay. I got the buffet - not really worth the $$. If there is not a line up for the walk-up window it is better value - my husband did this. Overall a great way to see more of Oahu in a day without renting your own car.

We had a great time on the Grand Circle Island Tour. I believe our guide's name was Taeo. He was courteous, knowledgeable and entertaining. We had a rainy day, and our guide kept us engaged and interested even though at some stops there was no view due to weather. I would have to give our guide 5 stars.

If you want to see the island for the entire day this is the tour to go on. The tour driver was very informative.

Lots of information about the island. Good driver with lots of knowledge. Disappointed I didn't see the pineapple cutting at Dole plantation. Trip should be scheduled so this can be seen. We were there at 4pm when the demo was on but waited in the bus for 19 minutes for a late couple. Too many late people along the whole trip. They were given a time to be back at the bus and the rest had to wait. Should be more inforced.

If you don't want to rent a car, this day tour gives insights into the diversity of Oahu and was well-designed to show the different landscapes of the island. The guide was very informative. This is a popular tour and on the day I went there were 3 full buses. To avoid crowding at the various stops, the driver/guides had the initiative to slightly change the itinerary schedule so that only one bus would be at a particular stop at a time.

I wish we could have started earlier so we could have had time to take the train ride around Dole Plantation.

Excellent guide (Robert) very funny and brought the whole trip to life. Toured the island for the day stopping at various places starting just after diamond head and ending at Dole. We saw a lot- arguably some places would have been great to stop at such as Jurassic park valley and North shore beaches in place of some less interesting such as Sumo statue. I think in a day though with limited time this was acceptable. Very enjoyable and lovely ice cream at Dole to finish!

Very interesting day. All staff were friendly and informative. Right amount of time at the 2 main places we stopped.
Review by: Denise S, October 2011
This covered most of the "views" on the island, the bus driver was great, however, we did feel a bit rushed at Dole Plantation, we only had 20 minutes, this was due to other passengers not returning to the bus at the time instructed during earlier stops. The biggest negative, the "ranch" where we stopped to buy lunch - the food was horrible, raw bacon and fake sandwich meat, all that for $30! The tour people need to find a new place for lunch, everyone on the bus (which was full) said the same thing - YUCK!
Review by: Earl W B, October 2011
Enjoyed most of the tour, but could have skipped the ranch -- nothing new, so-so food.

Excellent day out, and fabulous way to get an overview of Oahu. Our driver (Keamoki) was great. He was very informative about the places, hawaiian culture, language and legends/folklore. He laughed and joked with us, was very welcoming, we were part of his ohana for the day. He told us information about the places we passed through, not just the schedueled stopping places, and passed artifacts, pictures, maps etc around the bus, to help us understand what he was talking about. The Japanese temple was beautiful. So tranquil. We were able to strike the giant bell in an appropriate manner as Keamoki had explained how to do it properly before we left the bus. We made one impromptu stop on the North Shore, as the driver had spotted a turtle on the beach, so we all got a quick look through the windows as there was no-where for us to park the bus and get out. Dole plantation was a bit of a let down. The gardens were pleasant, but the maze, train etc, all cost extra and took longer than our alotted stop-over time. Otherwise a throughly enjoyable day out, highly recommended.

I didn't want to hire a car and do this by myself - they drive on the wrong side of the road over there! Our driver was very informative and the coach was clean and very comfortable. They were lots of stops in the first half of the tour but not so many in the second half of the tour. I would have loved a stop at one of the North Shore beaches.

I found that all the day excursions were very educational and scenic. I would recommend.
