Palm Springs Aerial Tramway

Palm Springs, United States of America

On a hot summer's day, one of the best things to do in Palm Springs is to take a ride from the dry desert floor with the Aerial Tramway, 5,873 feet up into the cool climate of the San Jacinto Mountains. Come and ascend into a pristine wilderness aboard the world's largest rotating tramcars! Truly one of the greatest experiences in Southern California!

The world's largest rotating tramcars carry visitors from an elevation of 2,643 feet to a Mountain Station located at the 8,516-foot level of Mt San Jacinto State Park and Wilderness. It has the steepest vertical cable rise in the U.S. and the second steepest in the world. The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway is truly one of the greatest experiences in Southern California.

What is remarkable about the ride, aside from the breathtaking views of the valley, is the change in temperature. At the bottom of the tram route, the temperature on the desert floor can reach 120 degrees. Rising up through mountain canyons and chimneys, you arrive in an arctic-alpine forest with giant Ponderosa pines. The thrilling vertical ascent gives you views of the Chino Canyon and the San Jacinto Mountains from the front of the car, while the Sonoran Desert is splayed out below from the rear of the car. Look to the top of Chino Canyon, snap a few photos, then look behind and below as you move from one ecological zone to another.

At the Mountain Station, you can walk from the car into the large, 3-story facility which has a cocktail lounge, dining facilities, gift shop and observation decks. The station theater features "Building on a Dream", an 18-minute film on the history of the history and construction of the Tramway. At the top you can also explore the 14,000-acre Mt. San Jacinto State Park and Wilderness Area, which has 54 miles of hiking trails, rustic campgrounds, and granite outcroppings providing clear views of the cities below.

During the winter months “mid-November to mid-April” you can strap on snowshoes or cross-country skis and head into the packed powder of a winter wonderland at the Top of the Tram. There are so many ways to enjoy the snow in the San Jacinto Mountains but snowshoeing is perhaps the most exhilarating family adventure. The Tramway's Adventure Center (snow conditions permitting) is open for snowshoe and cross-country ski rentals.

very upset with the way the tickets were handled! Buy buying tickets in advance to avoid long lines I was told that because I did not use the PS TRAM website 4 tickets my party had to wait 1hr and 20 min. to get on the tram! and the kids never had time to play in the snow as we arrived @ 2:30 and did not board till 3:50 with dinner resys @ 4:30 It seems your customers take a backseat to the walk up customers. My nephew and I will warn our friends and family to avoid your website!

The Tram ride was awesome, as was our walk around the top. Nothing scary about it, though my daughter was scared to death at first, but once we got going, she loved it, and now she can't wait to go back!

This was the most amazing experience I have ever had. I am terrified of heights, so this was a big deal for me. I'm glad my friend talked me into it. I can't wait to go back during the winter to see the snow.

We really enjoyed this, we chose Palm Springs as a stop off on our journey from Las Vegas to San Diego mainly because we could do the Tramway experience before we headed off again. You get fantastic views on your way up and once you are at the top you can go off hiking into the forest if you wish to. The best way of describing it is you leave the desert at the bottom and enter into a Yosemite kind of place at the top.

Everything was great. The only bad thing was that one of the Souvenier workers gave us a little attitude while shopping. All in all, we thought it was worth the money. Thank you

My family and I had such a great time. We will definately return and also recommend our friends and family to visit the Tramway._br/_ The only piece of criticism I have is that the basement level where the movie theater is/the mini museum, that section needs some upgrade. There is many more ways that you can use that space to educate visitors of the tramway experience and how it began._br/_ Other than that it was a fantastic experience!_br/_ Thank you!

The trip up the tram and the view was spectacular. Fortunately the personal at the tram were very helpful as Viator is not one of their regular servers. The fact that we had to get a voucher for admission was a bit of a problem as we were on vacation and did not have a printer to print out the voucher. Fortunately friends came to the rescue. Would probably not deal with reservations through Viator again.

We had a terrific time, it was absolutely beautiful. Look at all your food options before you decide on what to eat. The barbecue tri tip plate with drink was not that great, this is outside before the trails.

We absolutely loved it! I will recommend this package to all my visitors. The tram ride was excellent and the views were stunning up and down. It was truly a thrill in so many ways. We also enjoyed the restaurant, shopping, telescope, and movie. We spent four hours and wanted to stay longer, but we had a dinner reservation. I will be back again soon. Thanks again for a great time!
