Normandy D-Day Battlefields and Beaches Day Trip

Paris, France

Take a poignant, memorable day trip from Paris to visit the Normandy battlefields and landing beaches of World War II. You'll visit famous wartime sites and the American cemetery, spend time on the historic beaches and gain invaluable insights into the wartime experience of the Allied soldiers and the French citizens they liberated.

Your drive through the picturesque Normandy countryside takes you to the Caen Memorial, devoted to illustrations and films about the Second World War and the Normandy landings of June 1944.

After lunch at the Memorial, visit the Pointe du Hoc, a German defense position that was heroically taken by US soldiers during World War II. Continue to the American cemetery of  Saint-Laurent, the final resting place of almost 10,000 soldiers. You will also have free time at Omaha Beach to reflect on the site's moving history and visit the Omaha Beach Visitor Center, which describes the American soldiers' operations on the famous beach in June 1944.

Before returning to Paris, stop at the Canadian Memorial at Juno beach and Arromanches to see the remains of the artificial landing harbor that was built by the Allies in less than 15 days.

of course the sites chosen were more American than Canadian, however stapping at the Canadian cemetry would have been nice.

Wonderful trip that exceeded my expectations. The guide was very knowledgable and friendly. The itinerary was very inclusive and I was pleased with the amount of time allowed at each stop. I highly recommend this memorable tour and the travel through the French country-side is an added plus.

Nice bus, knowledgable tour guides, beautiful day, all add up to a very good trip! I felt we spent too much time at the Memorial Museum in Caen. This was not as nice a display as the Military Museum in Paris, and we were there for two hours and lunch. Lunch was very nice, though! The afternoon activities were rushed. I would have like more time at the American cemetery at Omaha Beach. Their visitor center displays were wonderful. All in all, though, it was a memoral day that was well worth the time and expense.

Great tour! Caen War Memorial was the perfect place to start the tour, to re-fresh your memory and learn a bit more about the landings and the rise of the Nazis. Highlight of the tour was the landing area at Pointe du Hoc. Would recommended the tour to any one with a spare day in Paris.

A must see for those from the U.S. The American Cemetery was stunning. To read the stories in the welcome center brought tears to mine and others that were there. To see that almost 10,000 American soldiers are buried there. Many unknowns and 41 brothers really hits home. Our guide was well versed and helped to make the ride pleasurable. We covered a lot of ground and saw the best there was to see.

We really enjoyed this trip. However, make sure you plan for a very long day - bring reading material, snacks, and drinks. While a lovely lunch is provided at the museum in Caen, dinner is a gas station stop! While we enjoyed the museum at Caen, this museum really encompasses all of WW2. We actually liked the museum at the American Cemetary, as it was strictly focused on the D-Day Battlefields. I could have used less time in Caen, and more time at the Cemetary to visit the Cemetary grounds and museum.

March 2012 - It was a grat trip. I met nice people had a great lunch and most of all I saw and touched the place that shaped the life of my father. One of the poignant memmories is that our knowledgable guide observed that when she started conducting this tour year ago the participants were the men that were there now they are motly replace by the childeren who are drawn to this plac.e to honor the men.

Although it was a long day, I would have liked to have spent more time at the English artificial harbor. I noticed some people down on the beach and we were unable to get that close. Otherwise, the trip was very good and informative.

I went on this trip alone figuring it was something I needed to see at some point in my lifetime. The museum was the first stop and we had an hour to walk through the different exhibits. I felt like I had enough time to see everything I wanted to see there. Lunch was tasty and we were given 2 bottles of wine per table.

HIghly knowledgable guide. Regret how rushed it felt. Was a very full day. The Memorial museum of Peace deserves more time as does the Cemetary. Will go again but on my own - each spot deserves more time. Very thoughtful places were visited.

This day trip was amazing. The smaller group in the minivan made it possible for us to learn so much of the history and have all of our questions answered. Our guide was phenomenal! I enoyed this more than anything else I did in France. It is well worth it. You are forever changed by visiting these historic sites.

Guide was very knowledgeable and helpful. Beach tours were impressive. Lunch at memorial was somewhat drawn out and could have been shorter to spend more time at beach sites and areas just of beaches. Would have liked to see more of immediate areas around beaches like paratrooper drop areas, etc. We passed some small museums that had what looked like original warfare equipment but did not stop. Overall very good tour.

(1) Not enough time allowed at the War Memorial because we had to rush to an ordinary country inn where we were served a less than ordinary lunch. A simple box lunch that could have been eaten at any of the sites would have provided the additional time needed at the War Memorial. (2) We were in the back of an 8 person van, and could not hear the guide. To "correct" the problem, he had to have one hand on microphone and one hand on the steering wheel. Driving at 60 to 70 miles an hour with one hand on the wheel is dangerous and UNACCEPTABLE!!!!

I would highty recomment this tour. To my husband and I it was possibly the hightlight of our trip. The bus was very comfortable, and the tour guides were very knowledgeable. The Viator office to pick up the tour was easy to locate in Paris. It was a all day tour, however the bus ride allowed some nap time. I have taken many tours through Viator, and will continue to use them through my European trips.

Overall, it was a great trip the tour guide was very knowledgeable and Normandy is a must-see sight in France. Viator allowed everyone in our group to relax and have a great time. Driving through the countryside was also very beautiful and something we would have missed had we just taken the train to Caen or Bayeux.

Our tour to Normandy far exceeded our expectations. Christian was an amazing tour guide. Her knowledge on everything from cows to all things in France was incredible. The lunch was the only thing that left a lot to be desired - I recommend that Viator find a better restaurant. But this tour is truly one of the highlights of our trip.
