Paris Food Walking Tour: Gourmet French Food

Paris, France

There's no need to consider calories when you combine gourmet French food with a three-hour morning walking tour! Your small group tour is led by an expert food connoisseur, who will take you through a number of Paris neighbourhoods to visit a French bakery, pastry shop, French caterer, wine shop, cheese shop, fruit and vegetable shop and market.

Your gourmet walking tour of Paris begins at a specialty cheese shop on Boulevard Saint-Germain on the Left Bank. Numbers on this gourmet walking tour are restricted to a maximum of eight, ensuring you'll receive individual attention from your expert gastronomic guide. The number of stops you make could be expanded according to the seasonal availability of produce and your group's preferences.

The commentary from your expert foodie guide includes an overview of French culinary habits, a description of any seasonal events taking place at the time of your tour and an introduction to selected specialties in the shops. Your guide will discuss how these specialties are produced, how to choose and store the produce, and how to prepare your own gourmet recipes. You are encouraged to interact with your guide and ask as many questions as you like.

Our tour guide was very informative, he showed us around the neighbourhood as well as introducing us to the gourmet food. We tasted pastries, had cheese, foei gras and pâté with baguette, together with dessert wine. Very enjoyable.

Our tour was excellent! We tasted amazing Parisian foods and learned how and why food plays such an important role in French culture. Our tour guide was very educated, spoke very fluent English, and demonstrated she cared about each of our experiences--she was even willing to cater to the group's interests. The group size was appropriate--just 7 of us. Would definitely recommend for a bit of an "off-the-beaten" path experience!

Excellent tour. Meeting place was fairly easy to find (right next to the exit for the metro stop). Our tour guide was excellent. She spoke great English and gave us a history of some of the buildings we walked by during our tour. She took us to a local cheese shop (fromager), artisan bakery, wine shop, and a very nice shop that sold hundreds of different oils and vinegar (we purchased a bottle of mint olive oil and honey ginger balsamic vinegar because it tasted so good!). We were able to sample many items at each shop, plus our tour guide purchased a baguette, a bottle of wine, a couple of different cheeses, some pate and some frois gras and put together a sample spread for us at our last stop for us to chow down on. There were only four of us on the tour, so there was plenty of food for us (we couldn't even finish it all despite our tour guides pleads to eat it all) so I'm not sure if you get more or less food depending on the group size, but we definately had no complaints! A little pricy, but I felt it was an excellent way to start our trip because my wife and I purchased some cheese, wine, and a baguette later one and had a picnic at the Champs de Mars with the Eiffel Tower in our backdrop. Great experience!

We had a great time on our tour. We sampled wonderful food from several different specialty shops and learned about french lifestyle and culture. FYI If you are from the USA you can't bring sausages or cheese back home. Fois gras is ok but not pate. We learned tha hard way when the store said we could bring sausage home if it was vaccuum sealed. Not true. Don't waste your money, customs will confiscate it.

I highly recommend this tour, it was a fantastic experience, and great way to discover the best French food guided by an expert, who took us to great places where the refined -palate locals shop for the best. Our guide, Yves, was knowledgeable, he went the extra mile, shared his passion about Paris, its food and the culture, architecture and history which influence Parisians’ lives. The tastings were excellent!

I was lost and arrived 15mins late (chalking up a 20Euro cab ride) so I missed the tour.. Remember to find out the location and leave early as the morning peak hour jams are crazy! Too bad I missed it.. Would have been lots of fun..

We enjoyed the same guide from our morning tour, and she gave us excellent guidance on purchasing quality cheeses, foie gras, and salamis to take home. She included a lot of history and culture while we walked to different _br/_ shops. Highly recommend both Food Walking Tours; comfy shoes a real necessity!

I'm glad you asked, I thought it was awful._br/_ When I was in Paris, my friend and I booked two other tours through Viator and we loved them. I thought the Gourmet French Food was going to be wonderful but honestly, it was awful and I would not recommend it to anyone.

The guide was knowledgeable in some areas but not in others..such as wine. Would have been good to have a place to sit down at end of tour to eat after being on our feet for three hours.

A great tour to do for a potted history of France and a taste of some Fresh produce ourchased during the tour. Our guide, Marion, was informative and entertaining. Highly recommend this tour. We finished with a lunch of our purchases washed down with a local bottle of wine.

This was a wonderful experience and in many ways exceeded our expectations. Adam did a wonderful job, was well-informed about the food, engaged with all/each of us, and provided a great all-around experience. We didn't want it to end.

What an unexpected highlight of Paris this tour was. Our tour guide, Marian, was absolutely charming and so friendly, bubbly and accommodating. Nothing was too much trouble. We sampled all kinds of cakes and pastries, seafood, Olive oils, cheeses, breads, coffee, small goods and wine. All in a wonderful atmosphere. We were only in Paris for two days but this was the highlight of our stay. Marian was also very knowledgeable about the area and it's history which only added to the enjoyment. I'd highly recommend this tour as it gives you a true taste of what we all expect Paris to be. Thank you.

What a fantastic way to experience the food scene in Paris. I absolutely loved the Latin Quarter, it's open markets and the wonderful specialty food shops we were introduced to. I liked experience food through the eyes of a French expert, as they knew exactly where to go and showed us the diamonds in the rough. Our guide, Yves was approachable and interesting and showed us other cultural/architectural sights in Paris besides all the food. I really enjoyed the whole tour and got to bond with my fellow tour-goes who were from all over the world. I would absolutely do something like this again, next time I'm in Paris. A+!!!

This was one of the best things I did on my Paris trip - it was so much fun and I learned so many things. I could never have found all these places by myself. Our guide was delightful and spoke perfect English. Then at the end of the tour, we got to eat all the gorgeous things she bought - divine cheeses, different baguettes, foie gras and plenty of wine to wash it all down. No need for breakfast or lunch! I would do it all again in a minute. Fab tour.

An unexpected highlight of our trip; Wonderful tour. A little expensive, but worth every penny. Sure, our guide taught us about French food, but she threw in a little more of French history, church history, architecture, and everyday life. By the way, the pastries, wine, cheeses, olive oils and foi gras were delicious. Guide was well prepared. Each shopkeeper we visited was expecting us, and treated us like long lost family members. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

This trip exceeded our expectations. Our delightful guide, Alexandria, took great care to explain not only the food of Paris but also the history of this great city. We strolled through the streets of the Latin Quarter, visiting a patisserie, fromagerie, wine store and frois gras specialty shop - tastting the gourmet delights along the way. A fantastic morning appreciating the delights of Paris.

If I had to write the review for our guide alone it would have been 5 Stars! The food part of the tour in my opinion was weak. We tasted a very small donut like pastry, fresh raspberries, Foie Gras, Sausages (salamis), some great cheeses , breads and a small amount of wine. All of this was over a Three hour period. For the amount of money they charge I did not think it was worth it. I am American and maybe expected more food? At the end of the tour we bought a slice of Pizza from a shop because we were still hungry. As far as our wonderful guide goes He was very informative and talked a lot about the history and culture of his beautiful city. He also pointed out historical sites and location spots of the movie Midnight in Paris. In think my opinion would change if they had included more tasty food!

I highly recommend this tour to anyone whom is interested in food even those that aren't. Our guide Marian took us through the streets of the Latin quarter giving us a bit of a history lesson as we walked from shop to shop along the way gathering delicious foods for us to sample. The tour ended with a picnic made up of our delights washed down with a glass of wine. The perfect start to a great day. Many thanks to marian for making this daynso memorable.

DO NOT DO THIS TOUR. I was violently ill in the afternoon / evening following this tour and for the next several days, which really ruined my whole time in Paris. Considering this was a "food" walking tour, I could have died if hunger at the end. There was neither enough nor enough variety of food. Your money could be much better spent on something else.

Good tour leader and tolerant of late-comers who restricted the amount we could cover. Yves certainly knows the Latin Quarter and was full of useful and interesting information with strong views on imported and supermarket food. well worth doing and be prepared to try anything on offer from breakfast to lunch which he recommended at an excellent restaurant - Loius Vins.

Of all the tours we scheduled when my husband and I were in Paris, the gourmet walking tour with our guide, Jennifer was the most memorable one. She was informative, enlightening and fun to be with. This was quite a treat. We were taken by a Parisian native, who spoke fluent English, for freshly roasted and ground coffee and croissants, then to a special cheese shop to taste everything, and then to a pate and fois gras store for more eating and tasting with special wines, too. There was no pressure to buy anything. We were with our group of 6 for 4 hours. I sure wish cheese tasted the same here in the States!

We took the Gourmet French Food Walking tour in November, during Paris off-season and were the only ones on the tour, two adults and an 11 year-old. It is important to note going in what this tour is, and what it isnt. While food is a focus of the tour, it is not the sole element. There are equal parts food, architecture, history and culture. It is nice to get out of the monuments section of Paris and enjoy some back street strolling. If that appeals to you, this trip is for you. Just dont expect three hours of non-stop tasting and sipping. All of the shops from which we obtained food and wine were fabulous, and justifiably famous. Watch any current travel show on Paris that touches on cheese and I guarantee that you will see the cheese shop that is featured on this tour. I think of this as a neighborhood tour of the 5th Arr. with culinary highlights thrown in and youll understand whats in store. The guide was focused, knowledgeable, pleasant, and very informative. I would definitely recommend this tour.

Marie-Cecile was an excellent guide. I was the only one on the tour so it was very personal and unique. We discussed recipes, architecture and of course food. I tasted goats cheese and foie gras for the first time. This tour gave me an insight into local cuisine and also where to get it. I thoroughly recommend this tour

Our guide, Marie-Cecile, was great. She was extremely knowledgeable, both about gourmet foods, and about Paris in general. She was a very well-educated guide who obviously loved her city and knew it intimately. We learnt much about Parisian gourmet foods particularly cheese that we couldn't possibly have learnt any other way.
