Perfume Workshop in Paris

The workshop is led by an expert in the perfume field who teaches professionals at the well know school of Perfumery in Versailles and is also a consultant to firms like L'Oreal. The first part of the workshop will be a discussion on the origin of The Eau de Cologne in Florence in 1221 at the convent of Santa Maria Novella, and the key ingredients and evolution around 1725 of the production of perfume in the city of Cologne.

In the first half you will learn how to smell and describe the ingredients of an eau de cologne and to learn about the characteristics belonging to different families of odors. This is then followed by a discussion of the development of different kinds of Cologne and Eaux Fraiches on the market.

The second half of the workshop is the practical part. After having smelled the different types of Eau de Cologne and Eaux Fraiches, your teacher will show you a very simple method to create the perfumes you like which you can take home with you. Six different perfumes are used (classic cologne, green tea, spicy, fruity, floral ozonic and chypre in atomizers). All the raw materials are guaranteed to correspond to the European legislation and to the IFRA recommendations.

I LOVED THIS!! Will definitely recommend this to anyone going to Paris. You get a bottle of your own concoction afterwards and can buy extra bottles (great gift idea) afterwards for a great price (I think it was $25-$35 Euro for the additional bottles).

We very much enjoyed our workshop. It could have been improved with a little more context about the perfume industry, the role of the various players, and some numbers about how many of each type of player exists. In addition, the workshop was billed as an English language tour. Half the guests were French-speaking and half English. Most of the actual workshop info was delivered in both languages, but there were many more questions asked and answered in French, with no translation whatsoever, making the English speakers feel like we only heard about 40% of the total information conveyed. Much time wasted waiting for others to have their scents wrapped. Very pricey compared to our other Viator tours, and not sure it is warranted.

This was an amazing class! As it happened, I was the only one to register for that date, but instead of cancelling, the instructor kindly made me coffee and gave me the full class that would have taken place with more people. She was very intelligent, knowledgeable and helpful. I had a wonderful time and it was a definite highlight of my entire trip. I would recommend this class for everyone interested in perfume!

Although we found the venue difficult to find, we thoroughly enjoyed the perfume workshop and it was a very personal experience for us in a small group of 6 participants.One of our people was a male and he enjoyed the workshop too.The leader spoke very good english and was a lovely lady and the venue was delightful.

I did this "tour" with my two teenage daughters, ages 18 and 14, and we had a wonderful experience. We were the only guests registered that day, so we had individual attention. We learned so much about how perfumes are made, and we all had a great time experimenting and making our own. The girls were very creative, and love their personalized scents!

Discovering the different families of fragrances was very interesting. The practical element of making a variety of different scents really made the skill of a perfumer come alive. This was a great workshop with a knowledgeable and gracious teacher. My daughter and I took this course and were very pleased with the depth and content of the class. We both made our own custom perfumes and have a much better understanding of the world of fragrance. The location was off the beaten track, but easy to find with a metro map.
