Small-Group French Cooking Class in Paris

Paris, France

Meet a local chef and learn how to cook a three-course Parisian banquet in a private apartment, right in the heart of Paris! Numbers for this small-group Paris cooking class are limited to a maximum of 8 people, ensuring you'll receive personalized attention from your knowledgeable French cuisine and food expert.

You can also choose to take a guided tour of the local markets in Paris, a unique opportunity to meet local butchers, bakers, and farmers selling vegetables from their gardens. On the market tour you will learn how to find and select the highest-quality ingredients and how to barter to get the best price. Along the way you will purchase fresh ingredients for your lunch before returning to the kitchen. Then it's time to start cooking!

Alternatively you can skip the market tour and dive straight into this Paris cooking class. Whether you're a cooking enthusiast or a novice, this half-day Paris cooking class is a true hands-on experience: you will prepare a delicious lunch - including entree, main course and dessert - from beginning to end. Best of all, when you return home, you can wow friends and family with your Parisian recipes and cooking skills.

And at the end of your lesson your reward is the delicious lunch you have prepared accompanied by a glass of well-earned wine.

I had a wonderful experience with Chef Marthe. The market tour and the cooking lesson were inspiring. Chef Marthe's care was evident in her choice of recipes, quality of ingredients, and detailed and easy to follow instruction. The meal we cooked was delicious. Our conversation was warm and casual and I would do a class again with Chef Marthe. An added bonus was to go to Aux Gateau du Pain around the corner from her apartment to purchase a baguette for the meal. Oh my!!!

I had a fabulous time at this cooking class. The chef is extremely knowledgeable, hospitable and funny. I learned a lot about both the history and culture of France in addition to having a fabulous meal, probably the best one I ate the entire time.

My cooking class with Marthe in Montparnasse was amazing! The morning started with a espresso and chat, and then a walk to the market. Marthe then showed me how to cook three lovely dishes, two of which I have cooked since. It was just me in the class, which I was a bit worried about at first, but soon I realised how lucky I was to have a private class. The class was the highlight of my Paris trip, thank you.

My family and I thoroughly enjoyed this cooking class and the market tour in the morning. Although it was pricey, it was a very memorable day and a nice way to spend part of a day in the home of a local Parisian. Our chef, Miriam, was very nice, patient and encouraging to our class of beginning students. I will recommend this class to my friends.

We had a blast on the cooking class and actually got interviewed by a dutch magazine doing a story on "Meeting The French" Our hostess Martha was an outstanding source of information and the recipes that we cooked were challenging but simple.

WONDERFUL experience. Marthe was so kind and what a cooking experience. The trip to the market was eye opening as Marthe explained everything. Then back to the apartment for our prep and the cookjing of our three course meal. Learned a great deal from Marthe and woluld recommend anyone wantiung to learn a little more about French cooking to take the class. We had only 6 people so it worked out thate everyone participated in the prep and cooking._br/_ plan on going back.

I had a blast! The chef was so helpful and made me feel so comfortable during the class. Her apartment was warm and inviting. Perfect Parisian experience. She also let us have a lot of hands on experience which made all the more fun! Food was delicious and at the end she gave us extra recipes and a couple of good inexpensive names of restaurants to try.

Although Mathe was a lovely woman with a warmth of sharing and opening her flat, I thought that the price was very high for the experience. Marthe is NOT a chef, as I was lead to believe. She is a delightful woman who had another career and in retirement loves to share her passion for cooking. Beware that anything that you buy at the market tour should be packed into your luggage and not taken as carry on. I purchased an expensive (Fois Grois) can of duck liver pate, which was taken during the security check! The cooking experience was demonstration only as the flat was small and not equipped for hands on involvement. All recipes and tips were wonderful however all measurements are in metric so duplication at home will be a challenge.

Jan 2011_br/_ Hi, Good time but disappointed. Very expensive for basic cooking._br/_ Since we were going to Paris and my sister loves cooking I booked a cooking class for my sister's 50th Birthday gift. I thought it was the perfect gift. We had never been to a Parisian fresh food market so it was really a good experience. The apartment was lovely and our chef was lovely. However my sister being such a great and experienced cook the menu was a let down. It was too basic - cheese souffle, fish parcel and chocolate cake - and she had cooked them several times before. I was expecting something much more interesting, different and challenging. I had read some of the suggested menus on line and was anticipating some of them...._br/_ Sample Menu:_br/_ Tarama soufflé - Duck magret with bigarade dressing - Orange cake with olive oil and saffron_br/_ Cereal pancake and mushroms fricassee with nut oil - Cod mouclade with lemon liqueur - Ice cream with soft white cheese_br/_ Chicory cream - Old-style blanquette - Chocolate fondant_br/_ I think it would have been helpful to have a choice of what to cook, or to have cooked something from the sample menu. If I do it again I will go to a site that you choose the type of cooking offered in the class.

I recommend this class for those who do not cook at all,it was very basic but informative. For those that have been cooking for decades like myself you might want a more advanced class. However the instructor was great and she made us feel so at home.

Very enjoyable and authentic Parisian experience, both our trip to the market and Miriam's wonderful apartment.. During our visit to the market we learned some great tips for selecting fruits and vegetables such as aubergines and melons. Once back in Miriam's kitchen we cooked Charlotte of Aubergine a la Creamed Goats Cheese and Red Pepper Coulis, Normandy Chicken and Peaches baked in Olive Oil and Basil. We picked up a few interesting tips from Miriam throughout the class. A great way to enjoy an authentic Parisian experience. It would be good to be able to review the day's menu or a few examples prior to booking the class, eg Miriam mentioned that the class mostly cooks seafood on Wednesday and Saturday as these are the days the seafood is fresh in the market - we would have been disappointed if we had been on these classes. An apron would be a nice item to take home as a memory of the class. Can recommend the class as a great way to participate in a true french cooking experience and to engage with a fun loving and english speaking Parisian. Throughout the morning Miriam was very generous with her tips on all things 'Paris' including the best food stores to visit, good restaurants, shopping, museums. As we were heading to Provence for two weeks Miriam also provided us with tips for our food shopping in Provence. Bon Appetite!

This was wonderful. Miriam's eggplant confit recipe was worth the trip to France. Both she and her mother were wonderful as were the young French couple who took the class with us. We got to take the metro to do the shopping at the open air market which was very interesting. Miriam's apartment was wonderful. Getting to be in this old building with its excellent courtyard was fascinating. A remarkable experience and worth every penny! It was perfect in every respect.

Our host chef was very nice and spoke excellent English. We were the only 2 in the class so it was possible take our time and enjoy the experience. As a more experienced cooking couple, my wife and I would have like the recopies to be a little bit more hands on but we did learn a few things to bring home and share at our dinner parties. During the food preparation, in casual conversation with the chef, we were able to get some great sightseeing tips to the beautiful Rodin museum the gardens are very nice. We also got some advice on where to pick up some of the ingredients we used during our class. This small group cooking class was a great way to spend a few hours in Paris and a really nice way to get to know Paris from a real Parisian.
