Cesky Krumlov Day Trip from Prague

Prague, Czech Republic

If you love castles, you won't want to miss Cesky Krumlov's World Heritage-listed castle! Known as 'the Pearl of the Renaissance', the State Castle of Cesky Krumlov is one of the most important historic sites in Central Europe. You'll travel by coach from Prague through the beatuiful south Bohemian countryside passing picturesque villages and ponds. The whole town of Cesky Krumlov is on the Unesco heritage list, comprising 300 historic houses, the castle and chateau.

The town's fairytale red-roofed castle is surrounded by landscaped gardens, and features grand courtyards, halls and furnishings. The castle's development over the 14th to 19th centuries has been well preserved, both in layout and architectural detail. The mighty castle complex stands on a rock promontory sculpted by the Vltava River, dominating the attractive medieval town below.

Together with the magnificent Church of St. Vitus, the castle is a unique feature of the entire region. The town of Cesky Krumlov is situated in a valley surrounded by the Blansko Forest to the north and the undulating foothills of Sumava to the south and west.

The only downside to this tour, was the bus was extremely uncomfortable for such a long trip. Also the tour was booked in English, but the guide spoke in two other languages, so after a while you switched off, cause she was going so fast to get all the languages in. Cesky Krumlov was beautiful, such a wonderful place, I would visit again

This was a little disapointing for me as l had such high expectations for this trip. I felt it was a little bit cheesy and comercialised. Fab for photos but it looked a bit like a false village for tourism. other than that had a good day all the same but felt prague was more the real thing.

The tour guide was really good and gave heaps of information during the bus ride. Only slightly annoying thing was there were 3 people who didn't speak English and a lot of time was spent translating.

A beautiful day trip and a wonderful guide! Our guide did repeat information multiple times, but we grew to appreciate that, as there was a lot of information thrown at us. She did a great job connecting historical references to the places we visited, and connecting them back to sites we saw in Prague itself.

Cesky Krumlov is a beautiful medievil town which is well worth a visit. On our particular tour, however, I believe the tour guide was not up to standard. I have forgotten his name but he was not an informative guide and was generally unhelpful and rude. He did not appreciate me asking him what time we would arrive back at the starting point (Republic Square) towards the end of the trip. Admitted, I had asked this question earlier on in the morning as I had booked a concert for 7.30pm on the same day months earlier. I recall he was also rude to a female tourist when asked a question about where she could be dropped at the end of the journey. Apart from our experience with this particular tour guide, the tour was worth it. Note: The tour was 30 minutes late, followed by various hotel pick-ups.

A really good (and long) day out - about 3 hours each way - and we stopped for a toilet break on the way out (but not on the way back). Plenty to do and see in this fabulous UNESCO World heritage site town. Our guide did seem to want us following him like sheep the whole time, but we did manage to get an hour or so to explore on our own whilst some spaniards had an arranged lunch, even though he directed the rest of us to another restaurant he obviously had ties with. We escaped and had a fabulous bowl of goulash soup in a bread bowl at a small place by the riverside, then went perusing the qaint little shops that we had previously been hurried by in his ever-zealous search for yet another "roccoco", "gothic" or "rennaisance" example of architecture. The actual castle/palace visit was worth every minute spent, with examples of 14th, 16th and 19th century rooms, portraying the three different families that held sway during its heyday. The town itelf, below the castle and on the banks of a curve in the river Vlatava, is picturesque to the max! Highly recommended

We had a great day. It is quite a long way so it was great going on the bus. the bus provides drinks at a very cheap rate. Loads of information and a great view of an old town. Sunday is a bad day to go as the traffic is very heavy when you are coming home. Good value for money

This was a great day trip from Prague. It was the perfect mix of tour time and personal time in the city. Our guide spoke excellent English and was very informative both on the bus ride and in Cesky Krumlov. We would highly recommend this tour to anyone going to Prague for vacation.

A beautiful city. The trip went very well and our guide was excellent. Some people had a lunch option and those of us that didn't had two hours to fill in. I think this was an hour too long. Maybe a lunch option could be considered.

This is my third experience. Previously did Paris and Salzburg. Not as good as the others as I think a third party was involved. Lots of confusion over tickets, so the bus was late leaving Prague. The tour guide was indifferent at best. Still it was fun visiting Cesky Krumlov and we enjoyed the castle tour and the free time for roaming about the town.

What a great day. We had a lovely tour guide who gave us lots of information about the Czech Republic's history and its people, this made the journey quite enjoyable. Cesky Krumlov is beautiful and if you enjoy visiting unspoilt original places, I would really recommend this trip.

We found it a little too far from prague and felt it's not worth the travel time. But it was a beautiful place. however, i must say that it was very disturbing as the guide was talking three or four languages during our journey and it was nonstop that gave us a headach. we did not expect it as we were booked on a english tour. so i kindly request not to do that again.

The guide provided a lot of background info and was quite good. They had an initial hiccup to figure out the total number of travellers, which should have been handled more efficiently. Cesky Krumlov is really pretty and we had enough free time to enjoy it. Recommend this tour.

This is an interesting trip with an informative guide. It's a worthwhile destination, but with quite a lengthy (and not particularly comfortable) bus journey, and in summer - be prepared for crowds.

It was a very long day, but such a worthwhile trip. The journey through the Czech country side and then the castle and village itself. Our guide obviously loved doing this tour and made it an entertaining and rewarding experience for us all. Lunch was not as good as it could have been but the venue was beautiful.

Fabulous place, fabulous tour guide. Overall wonderful experience. Lucy, our guide could be a college professor, she is so knowledgeable about the history of Czech. She helped to make the Czech people and Czech experience come alive. This is the hands down best tour I have ever taken anywhere. I only wished for one more hour to look around, but as it was by not eating lunch with the tour group, we had time to take in the Schiele exhibit and an exhibit on shoes in the museum. Viator has my vote. There was a minimum of "herding" in this expereince which is what I normally hate about tours. The free time is critical to enjoyment.

One of the most beautiful villages in Europe. Could have explained that to go in the tower, one has to buy a museum ticket as it's not attached to the castle.

This was a trip out of "HELL". Tour guide did not speak english very well--mostly interested in telling us about the poor ecomomy of Czech Republic and how important the tourist money was to the economy. Mind you, here is a guy in work ill fitting jeans, scrubby sweatshirt and looked like had't taken a bath in over a week. When heading back to Prague, bus was going way too fast, some rain in Prague, cobblestone streets wet--bus going too fast--driver jerks us around and at one corner, sharp braking and more or less slid thourgh the corner. I really thought here goes the bus, wer are going to be in a roll over. Wet, raining, I asked if could take us close to the Prague Hilton so we could have a short walk --never got a direct answer. At the Republic Square pick-up sopt, guide justs walks OFF THE BUS-NEVER OFFERS ANY HELP OR EXPLAINATIONS. BUS DRIVER--DON'T KNOW ???. Overall, this will be a memory of HELL ON WHEELS. VIATOR NEEDS TO STEP UP AND SUPERVISE THOSE WHO TAKE US ON TOUR AND MAKE SURE WE GET THE PROPER QUALITY FOR THE MONEY WE SPEND. SHAME ON VIATOR!

The town was delightful the castle was impressive. The internal tour of the castle would have been much better had the rooms all been empty. Leave it to the visitor's imagination. From a safety point of view locking the visitors in rooms as the internal tour guide gives her talk is in my view dangerous.

Booking the tour was easy and seemless. However, there apparently was an option to include lunch, which I would recommend. Service at the restaurants is slow and we ended up spending our free time waiting for our lunch. Also, when I booked it specifically stated no hotel pickup/drop off was available and we had to make our way to the ticket kiosk, which fortunately was just a short walk from our hotel. However, ALL the other tour guests were dropped at their hotels. Our interpreter got off at an earlier stop and so we had to try to get our driver to take us back to the kiosk once we realized the driver expected us to get off at the last hotel stop. Being somewhat savvy travelers, we managed OK, but there is definitely a disconnect in the communications. Cesky Krumlov itself was very beautiful and we were glad we went. It was a nice way to see some of the Czech countryside and a beautiful little village. I recommend making the trip, but perhaps check the details with the tour operator sooner or consider booking direct with the tour operator so that nothing is missed. Happy travels!

Rare occurrence I'm sure, bus broke down on the way there. Travel company gave us free meal and free drink and got us a new bus as soon as they could. Drive was about 2 hours or so each way. Spent a few hours at the castle itself and the tour of it took about 1 hour. Went on guided walking tour of city area, but for us since the bus broke we did not have any free time to do any shopping on our own. Meal was at a local restaurant and was a "set" menu of soup, fried chicken cutlet, and boiled potatoes. Nothing too exciting. Castle was great, and really worth the trip.

The tour of the castle was good. There are beautiful scenic views of the town of Czesky Krumlov from the castle. Unfortunately, the weather was miserable so we couldnt really walk around and explore much of the town. The guide pointed out interesting things along the route although there is not a whole lot to see on the drive. Overall I am glad I took the trip. However, it is a very long drive for a very short tour.
