Historic Prague Walking Tour including King's Route and Charles Bridge

Prague, Czech Republic

Marvel at the historic center of Prague on this three hour guided walking tour through the beautifully cobbled streets and past the diffusion of architecture. You'll observe the rich cultural life of a region that is home to the culturally influential German novelist Franz Kafka and the last president of czechslovakia, Vaclav Havel.

Discover Pragues Powder Tower built in 1475 to be used by bohemian monarchs during coronations. Located at the edge of old town, the Powder Tower was used to store gunpowder in the 17th century which very much defines its name. As you walk along the Royal Route which was originally used for coronation processions by Bohemian kings, the historical path engraved with a silvery plate holding the inscription 'silver line' can be traced through the old center of Prague.

As you walk through the Old Town Square located between Wenceslas square and Charles Bridge, the city features various architectual styles including gothic which inspired the Tyn Cathedral, which has been part of the city since the 14th century and the baroque inspired St. Nicholas church (completed in 1735). This gothic style architecture can also be seen in the astronomical clock on the Old Town Hall.

Uncover Pariska street (Art Nouveau style) which is lined with an array of luxury shops and restaurants. Later you will walk through the former Jewish Quarter located between the Old Town Square and the Vltava river, and birthplace of the literary legend Franz Kafka, to the Rudolfinum. Then enjoy a magical view of the Charles Bridge with its baroque style statues, as well as witnessing the biggest castle in the world, Prague castle. Returning to Lesser Town, an area shrouded with narrow cobbled streets and picturesque cottages and shops.

Had a very personable guide by the name of Lucy who impressed my group with her factoids on all these related to the tour. Full stars!

Don't be fooled by the name of this tour - for the record, we learned nothing about the King's Route, and we didn't even walk across Charles Bridge. Overall, it was a decent walking tour of the city - we saw major buildings and got a good feel for the city, but we didn't learn much about the city's history. The tour was supposed to be in English - but the guide had to host two groups, one in German and the other in English. So, while we thought the tour would be entirely in English, we did the descriptions first in German, then English (not that big of a deal, but not what we paid for). The booth was very easy to find, but it wasn't very organized when we arrived. We were told to wait "over there" and a guide would come find us - well, we had to find the guide. We never made it across the river, saw Charles Bridge from a distance, and the King's Route was never, ever mentioned. I would have preferred to hire a private guide, or made our our walking tour armed with a map and a history guide of the city.

Did this tour our first morning in Prague, a great way to get to know our way around the old town area. Only complaint was that the guide was very soft spoken, difficult to hear at times. Prague is such a glorious city, easy to walk around. Would recommend this tour to any new visitor.

Guide was very knowledgeable and despite the fact that he had to alter his usal route as a marathon was going on in the area we were touring, he managed to show us a lot.

Our tour guide was quite dull and uninterested during this tour. It was all rehearsed with no passion and very minimal information. Also, our tour was mixed with a german tour so it became multi-lingual. This wasted a LOT of time repeating everything in english, then german... and the tour still finished 20 minutes early! We could have done this tour self-guided with a map and our lonely planet book. Unfortunately a waste of money.

Vera did a good job. I would have given it a higher rating if the group had been only English speaking. There were 3 of us and the other two were German. While Vera accommodated both languages, I felt "ripped off" because there was only half the time to tell me about the history.

Fantastic! It was only myself and the guide and she was fabulous. Her knowledge of both Prague and the Czech Rep. was amazing. She knew all the ‘ins and outs’ of Prague being able to answer all of my questions. Highly recommended.

Knowledgeable guide. Friendly and helpful. Excited about sharing his city. Went out of his way to help individuals in the group. This is a great way to see the city and learn of it's history and culture.

I've done several city tours through Viator - this one was very disappointing. Althought I've booked an English tour, the English tour guide did not show up and we had to join a German tour group although the guide spoke both English and German she spoke paragraphs in German and then gave us the English one-liner. Apart from that, the tour only takes you on part of the King's Route and we kept walking round in circles to make up time could have done all the walking tour in about an hour if we looked at the sites in sequence.

This tour was virtually worthless. Our tour guide spent most of the tour pointing out things that were self-evident like, stores where we could buy souvenirs, atms, where we could get money, etc. Do not waste money on this tour but instead take advantage of the free tours easily found in Prague.

The guide was amazing. The tour was excellent on its own, but she made it even better. I only wish it was longer so that I could see more.

The guide, conducting the group only in English, did nonstop talking and provided us with too much information. For example, do we all really care about the names of all the crystal made in Prague? The nonstop talk was unpleasant. We had no time even to take a picture.

The guide was a little bit too verbose. I don't really need to spend quite so much time hearing in-depth history on every building as I know I'll forget most of it by the time I get back to the hotel. She also didn't keep track of the group very well and we lost a couple of people along the way. Being on the streets was nice, however, as it gave me the freedom to take a lot more pictures than in the bus tour.

Large group split 5050 EnglishGerman speakers. No use of transmitter receiver as in Rome, which meant less efficient. Guide was knowledgeable but often got monopolised in German, maybe too many churches. Good orientation though for the first day.

A great morning walk and overview of all the highlights of Prague. Our guide easily handled the tour, rotating between English, German, Spanish and the occasional Czech when speaking to locals. Impressive. We hit all the main sights. Tour ended at Castle Hill to make your own walk up the hill to explore. Definitely recommend.
