Jewish Prague Walking Tour

Prague, Czech Republic

Experience Prague's Jewish history on a fascinating walking tour through one of the only Central European Jewish town quarters that survived the Holocaust. Known as Josefov, this Jewish quarter contains the remains of the former Jewish ghetto where important community and spiritual legends have been created and developed for centuries.

With more than 1,000 years of history, the Prague Jewish community is filled with many sites that still testify to its rich cultural and legendary past, and make it one of the major European centers of Jewish life. Follow your expert guide on a fully narrated walking tour of the city. Walk through the Old Jewish Cemetery, one of the most iconic sites in Prague where 12,000 tombstones remain. Established in the 15th century, this cemetery is home to the tombstones of famous figures including poet and scholar Avigdor Karo.

You'll also visit some of the six surviving synagogues and Kafka's house before walking through Maiselova Street, one of the two main streets of the walled Jewish quarter. Continue to the Old Town Square, one of Prague's two main squares, and see an exhibition of Kafka. Your Jewish Prague walking tour includes admission to the Jewish Museum, which preserves a large collection of objects belonging to the Jewish community.

Fascinating tour of an entire neighborhood with a very knowledgable guide. Got access to the cemetary as well as a number of the restored synagogues. Got a good sense of the once thriving community and the terrible fate that befell it.

Very interesting tour of the way the Jewish community lived years ago in the ghetto of Prague The stories that were told by the guide were very moving.

The guide was horrible - she barely spoke above a whisper and didn't offer any information about the Jewish Quarter. She did talk a lot about buildings on the way to the Jewish Quarter, which kept us walking 45-minutes to even get to the first site in the Quarter, even though it should have taken at most 10 minutes to get to the first stop. In the Jewish Museum and other sites, she suggested we read the information at the exhibit and offered nothing supplemental. It would have been better to just buy an admission ticket and go on our own. We have done many Viator tours and have loved them all until this one. Usually the guides are a wealth of information, but not this one. Truly awful. When she left us, the others on the tour agreed - she was the worst tour guide any of us had ever experienced.

Excellent! Just wish that we could have had more time in the Museum to look at the Children's Art from Terezin. That was a bit too rushed. Guide was very knowledgeable.

Our guide gave us a view of the difficulties and triumphs of the Jewish community living in Prague over the centuries. The Nazi period was very confronting. We were very glad we had been able to fit the tour in to our schedule.

The guide we had was lovely but much of the tour was focused on providing an understanding of judaism more than the history of the czech jews and the synagogues. I was also disappointed that we did nto get admision to the Old New Synagogue. So, why we very much loved the guide, we didnt lenjoy the tour iteslf as much as we could have becseu of the naure of the content.

No doubt, the most interesting tour in Prague. The guide did not present always the right facts about the things we saw, but on the other hand it was a new experience for most of the visitors.

Tour guide nice but with strong accent - many times hard to understand... A lot of times we were standing around waiting while she repeated in 2 other languages - which to us wasted alot of time.

I had been looking forward to this tour, however I no longer think it was worth it. I think that while in Prague it is worth going out and seeing the old Jewish sites, but I don't think you need to go on this tour to do that. Our guide was very hard to understand and didn't explain things very clearly. We went from museum to museum four total and then the cemetery which I highly recommend, if done by itself and the whole thing only lasted for two hours. It just wasn't what I was expecting, so I didn't enjoy it.

For the money that we paid, we expected English only tour. The tour guide made mistakes.

This is a must see in Prague. The tour lasted for hours and the guide was very efficient and certainly knew her stuff. We were the only two in the tour, so we had an excellent chance to hear all about it. It was so astounding! I cannot believe how beautiful and surreal the sights were, I would definitely recommend it to anyone.

The guide informed us not only of the sights but of the traditions as well. He honestly recommended what was worth seeing and what just a place to drop money. I would recommend it.
