Karlovy Vary Day Trip from Prague

Prague, Czech Republic

Take a day trip through the picturesque West Bohemian countryside to the world-famous spa town of Karlovy Vary. Better known by its German name, Karlsbad (or Carlsbad), this spa town is situated in a beautiful forested valley known for its 12 thermal springs.

Karlovy Vary is the most famous Bohemian spa, and was named for the Holy Roman Emperor Charles (Karl) IV. The emperor allegedly found the springs in 1358 during a hunting expedition. In the 19th century, many famous people came here from all over Europe for treatment, including Goethe, Schiller, Beethoven, Chopin and Karl Marx.

Upon your arrival in Karlovy Vary, you will visit a glass exhibition at the Moser factory. Then, as you stroll through the town along the spa colonnades, you will have a chance to sip the water from the mineral springs, taste delicious local wafers and the traditional herbal Becherovka liqueur.

Beware. This trip is a rip off! The so called 'bus' was a rickety van and was extremely uncomfortable. The trip was supposed to be an English tour, but our guide gave her speeches in three languages along with English. She never translated the longer parts into English and as a result we were unable to follow many things during the journey. The entire van trip was spent listening to random commentates in foreign languages, when we had signed up for an English tour! Lunch main course was a pitiful sliver of overcooked chicken with a load of potato sides and it was served late (at 2.15pm). The tour description said and I quote: 'Sample the mineral spring water, local wafers and traditional herbal liqueur. However, we were never given any samples of wafers and liqueur. When we asked the guide she kept arguing that it was only a 'possibility' and that no 'inspection' of the liqueur place was possible. We showed her the printed description taken from Viator website, and she laughed at us and finally told us that the liqueur was no good and not worth trying. She did have us spend more than an hour in the glass factory where she tried to show me items to purchase like a sales girl.

Karlovy Vary is absolutely amazing!! But this tour was useless. First they take you to a glass factory for an hour (waste of time) instead of going straight to the city. The lunch was fixed menu and really awful. The commentary was unnecessary. I would recommend going to Karlovy Vary on your own and enjoy it! Its worth going!

A terrific local guide. Loved Karlovy Vary - the day trip looks like just an introduction - must go back in a year or two and spend more time

Fun trip, beautiful village. Spa water is disgusting, but a lot of people seem to enjoy it. Enjoyable to see everyone walk around with weird cups to drink from. We had a good travelguide. Bus is reasonably comfortable.

Long journey but worth the visit. Could have been told about taking a swimming costume prior to the visit as there was an opportunity to use the pool. Lunch included in price was good. 7/10

Full day, very informative tour guide, and we were allowed plenty of free time to explore the quaint spa town on your own after lunch. Would highly recommend.

karlovy vary is overrated as a town. the guide was quite good but it was exhausting listening to commentary in 2 languages. the groups should cater to one language at a time. lunch was pretty bad.

It was ok. I don't think it was quite worth the money. It is a long way from Prague too. The lunch was just ok. It was cool to drink the mineral water but would have been cooler if we had time to get a spa treatment. The guide was good though.

The sights were beautiful but our English speaking guide left us! We returning to Prague with the German speaking guide and the bus let us off outside of Prague! Nobody knew where we were or how to get to our hotels!

Good tour. I was expecting more to see from the place. The guide was good. The restaurant were we had lunch was ok. The springs were very interesting. The negative thing is that the total cost of three excursions cost us more money than if booked on the spot in Prague. Viator should also offer student tickets.

Wonderful trip! Good coach, useful minibus, very picturesque. Karlovy Vary is an unforgettable place in the center of Europe. Krushovica beer has been made near this town during more than 400 years and is a delight in addition to dinner.

The city of Karlovy Vary is beautiful and I would recommend that people try to get there some other way. Our guide was unenthusiastic and gave very little insight into what we were seeing or where we were going. If you attend the tour, don't bother going to the restaurant as the food isn't very nice and you could go somewhere else with traditional food and more ambiance.

While the city was beautiful, the weather was very cold. Our tour guide did not take that factor into account.

This was a long trip for a short time in Karlovy Vary. We would have cut out the Mosser Exhibition; it was a bit disappointing. We would far rather have spent longer in Karlovy Vary. The meal was excellent, hot and well presented in nice surroundings. All in all, we enjoyed our day. It is a very pretty town. Even though it is commercialised because of the hot springs, we felt it wasn't spoilt and had still kept its charm.

This trip was not as good as we expected it to be. The visit to the glass factory was simply a factory shop, we expected a demonstration or factory tour. Lunch was very poor, and totally unsuitable for children. The staff were either rude or unhelpful.
