Prague Walking Tour Following in Mozart's Footsteps

Prague, Czech Republic

Get into the musical atmosphere of Prague on this guided tour of locations connected to the famous Austrian composer, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Mozart visited Prague on four occasions in the 1780s and 90s, and his works were rapturously received. This tour offers you the unique opportunity to visit locations where Mozart stayed in Prague, and also reveals why Prague's citizens welcomed Mozart so warmly and why his music continues to win Czech hearts today.

Prague held a special place in Mozart's heart, and he felt that his music was especially appreciated by the city's people. This tour lets you follow his footsteps through the city. Visit Old Town and stop at the Golden Angel house and the Estates Theatre, which presented the world premiere of the opera, Don Giovanni, on October 29, 1791. In addition, visit the Three Golden Lions house, where Mozart lived during his second stay in Prague.

You will then head to the Museum of Music in Karmelitská by tram to see an exhibition of Mozart, or the Church of St Nicolas at Lesser Town where Mozart once play the organ. Returning to Old Town by tram, take the funicular to Petrin Tower and on to the Strahov Monastery at Hradcany, Prague's peaceful neighborough. Visit Hradcany Square and the palaces where Mozart held concerts and the houses he stayed in.

The walking tour concludes at St Nicholas's Church, where a requiem was held on December 14, 1791, as a tribute to Mozart and as a statement of the Czech nation's sorrow caused by his sudden death. The trip ends in Lesser Town.

We had a wonderful guide and we were the only two people on the tour. She was very knowledgeable, but I think if you already know about the life of Mozart the tour is a waste of time. Since we were the only two people on this tour, she showed us a few other really interesting things that we wanted to see: John Lennon's memorial wall and the statue of the Infant of Prague and his outfits. The tour guide was an A+. The tour might be okay if you know very little about Mozart and want to learn more.

If you are all musically inclined and enjoy a walking tour, seeing where Mozart lived and what he did on his 4 separate trips to Prague between 1789 and 1791 was excellent. The music museum, located a short walk once you cross the Charles Bridge was superb!

Extensive walking tour of Prague - perhaps too extensive given the time. In four hours, we were able to view all of the key sights where Mozart had visited, but we did not spend any time extensively visiting them. Very good tour if you want an overview of Prague with the intention of returning to those places of interest. Tour guide was very knowledgable and we found her interesting. However, she was rushed to meet the time constraints. Better directions to tour's starting point would have helped. Bottomline: We would take the tour again - just have our race shoes on!
