Private Tour: Middle of the World Monument from Quito

Quito, Ecuador

Ecuador is home to the middle of the world! Travel on a guided private tour from Quito to the location where the southern and northern hemispheres meet and view the monument which stands to represent this great divide! You can't visit Ecuador without going to the middle of the world. The monument will make you feel like you're on top of the world!

You'll start at the northern part of Quito and head up to the 'Middle of the World City' where you'll visit the monument that divides the northern and southern hemispheres.

It was built during the XVII century when a French Expedition defined the precise location of the equatorial line. You'll also have the opportunity to visit the Ethnographic Museum to learn more about the culture and people of Ecuador.

The tour itself, we took the version with lunch, was excellent and I highly recommend it to all. It was great to get outside the city for a little while. However, our guide was less than forthcoming about additional charges, not very interested in providing information of the city or the tours. It was more of a private car charter with someone arranging entrance and lunch. That being said, the Middle of the World is a must, and lunch at Pim's and the view from Pim's was worth the additional $$$.

We had a one to one tour guide but she was not very good and obviously bored. Before going to the main monument we went to a smaller 'middle of the earth' attraction which was good but when we went to the main monument very little was explained to us and we were given no opportunity to visit inside the monument.

Was lucky to have an individual tour with a lovely young girl who could not have been nicer. She allowed me to go at my pace taking lots of pictures etc. It was a very interesting tour and I enjoyed all the experiments.

Excellent guide! and excellent driver! The monument is well, mainly a photo op. but hey you have to go right? There are some odd but interesting displays by the monument including an insectarium and a small collection of pottery depicting the path of the sun. Don't forget to try the local ice cream on the way out. It is worth it! I would recommend spending the 3 dollars for the museum at the actual GPS equator, get past the decor and just experience it. The experiments on the actual equator line is the real draw including balancing an egg on a nail, trying to walk the equator without loosing your balance (it's harder than it sounds) and watching water go straight down a drain with no spin. The caldera near by offers spectacular views and is well worth stopping at. This offers the best scenery of the area and was my favorite stop.

This tour was very nice. The guide was knowledgeable and very fun. We had a great time on the tour. The communication with Viator & the connection/lack of connection with the transport to/from the tour was lacking. The website said the three hour tour left at 8:00am, but there was a lunch option. It was not until we checked into our hotel the previous evening at 10:30pm that we were informed that due to the lunch option we wouldn't be picked up until 10:00am. This was not a problem, however, if we had known we could have chosen a start time, we would have been able to better plan our time. This is not anywhere on the website or listed as an option. We were just very lucky we didn't try to schedule 2 half day trips. The rolls of operating company and booking company are not well described, so we never knew which company to contact.

We spent 3.00 extra and went to the museum that is actually on the equator. This museum was much better than the Middle of the World Monument.

We had an awesome guide - I learned a ton about Ecuador's history and Mitad del Mundo. It was fantastic not to have to drive or figure out the Quito bus system to visit. I highly recommend the optional Inti Nan museum stop at the actual GPS equator, and visiting the Ethnographic Museum at Mitad del Mundo. Our guide really brought the museum to life. Highly recommended tour.
