Reykjanes Peninsula and Gulfoss and Geysir Express Tour from Reykjavik

Reykjavik, Iceland

Combine two half-day tours in one! You'll tour the Reykjanes Peninsula in the morning, then spend the afternoon touring Gulfoss, Geysir and other Icelandic natural phenomena.

After leaving the capital, you'll start the day by heading for the Reykjanes Peninsula. The peninsula is almost completely covered with old lava flows - you will see lava combs and craters of all sizes and shapes, plus Iceland's famous tectonic plates.

You'll then continue to the lighthouse on the westernmost tip of the peninsula, and marvel at this area's rich birdlife. One of the world's biggest north gannet breeding colonies is at Eldey Island, where surf crashes against the beautiful basalt cliffs. It's a simply stunning sight!

From there, you'll continue through the lava fields to the nearby fishing village of Grindavik. After a short stop by the Blue Lagoon, you'll return to Reykjavik to pick up your Gulfoss and Geysir Express half-day tour, to see Iceland's best known historical sites and natural phenomena.

The afternoon tour begins with a visit to Thingvellir, a geologically unique place where the American and Eurasian tectonic plates meet. The Icelandic parliament Alpingi was established here in 930, and in 2004 Thingvellir was added to UNESCO's World Heritage List.

You will also see the majestic and beautiful waterfall Gullfoss, the incredible spouting hot springs of Geysir and Strokkur. After a visit to the village of Hveragerdi, with its large greenhouses, the tour returns to the capital.

I thought the tour was 'one tour', but in fact it was two half-day tours which meant I was driven back into Reykjavik to the bus depot and shuttled to a second bus. Seemed like a waste of time. The sights were interesting and I suppose it is cheaper than renting a car on one's own.
Review: 2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better

A good trip to see the variety of landscapes in the country. Had the opportunity to have short walks at some of the attractions which was good rather than sitting on the bus all the time.

Absolutely fantastic, especially the Reykjanes Peninsula am. You have to visit this part if you go to Iceland. The driver was very good.
