Corcovado Mountain and Christ Redeemer Statue Half-Day Tour

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Take an afternoon tour to Corcovado Mountain topped with the iconic statue of Christ the Redeemer. You'll travel through the Tijuca Rain Forest by cog train to Corcovado Mountain for breathtaking views of one of the world's most beautiful cities. This afternoon tour takes you to Rio's most famous attraction, leaving you with time in the day free to explore Rio on your own.

Your half-day tour to Corcovado takes you to the Cosme Velho station to catch the cog train. The steep train journey takes you through the dense Atlantic rain forest of Tijuca to the Art Deco statue of Christ the Redeemer on Corcovado mountain. You'll spend up to an hour here with your tour guide, who will show you the sights of Rio from this incredible mountain-top vantage point.

The tour continues to Sao Conrado Beach and Pepino Beach, where you can watch hand-gliders land and surfers show off their skills as they catch the waves.

It took forever to pick everyone up and get to the statue. The sight from the statute was truly beautifull. Tour would have been much better had we not spent so much time on the bus. We only spent abput 45 minutes at the statute and this was sufficient time to take all the pictures anyone would want to take.

Pick-up was never punctual, and time was wasted in waiting here and there before we know for sure which bus we should be on and which guide is assigned for the Corcovado Mountain tour!

Big problems with this one, was given to another tour company to do tour, guide was useless and even lost the bus for half an hour, a half day 4 hour tour ended up being a 7 hour disaster. Wasted most of our day.

First off, the bus came late._br/_ Second, the bus arrived at train station at 10am, but the tour guide could only get train ticket earlier than 12:40. So we had to spend 2 more hours waiting outside._br/_ Other than that, everything was fine.

Jesus Redentor was amazing! The views of the city from Corcovado Moutain are breathtaking. Great way to see one of the wonders of the world.

The tour only makes one stop (despite the description) and that is at Corcovado Mountain. But what a stop it is. The Christ Redeemer Statue is spectacular and the views are breathtaking. There is a lot of walking, even after the train ride to the top, but it is worth the journey. Fantastic!

Only got to spend 30 mins which was not enough. More time was spent picking up other guests. Would recommend to do this tour privately so you can spend more time there. However it is good if you dont want to spend much time up at the top of the mountain. Guide was very good though!

The tour was nice. The bus was clean, the tour guide was friendly, and everything was well organized. However, I didn't really learn that much about the city from her, and I didn't really get to see that much of the city. I probably would have been better off just taking a taxi to the train station...I ended up taking the taxi back because the tour was going so long and I was in a hurry. However, I would recommend this tour for anybody that has the time and wants a safe afternoon in Rio.

Well organized trip. We had a decently sized group for this trip and was all the more fun. Our tour guide Maria Oliveira was excellent and knew everything about the place thus made this trip a successful one

This tour absolutely was not worth the time and money. It's called a half-day tour, but you spend half the day picking up other people at their hotels and standing in lines! You're lucky if you get a full 30 minutes of time at the statue out of the "half-day". You would be better off going to Corcovado and doing the thing on your own. First time I have felt totally ripped off by an arranged tour like this.

Tour description stated that pick up occurred 1 hour before tour start, 2 PM. When calling operator I was told I was going to be pick until 2:40 PM. This impacted the experience because we were able to get to the statue until 4:30 PM causing the Sun to be on the back of the statue and affecting the picture quality. Tour should operate on the best time available for good pictures.

Best time to see is during 'clear' weather. We were there in March during bad weather. Because Christ Redeemer Statue is so high it was buried in the clouds high above. Once we got up there it was still buried in clouds. I'm sure it must be a thrilling site if you could see it. As we were leaving we were crowded into a small enclosed yet open area with a tiny exit to the tram. Once the exit was opened people started shoving and I actually felt a bit fearful that if someone tripped and fell, they would potentially get trampled.

The trip was advertised on Viator as starting at 2:00, but contact supplier on when Hotel p/u was. Found out our p/u was not until 2:45 and tour started at 3:00....that was their normal time.

Picked up promptly at 2p.m. Guide very entertaining and informative. Called at several hotels in the area to pick up other passengers ,which we regarded as a bonus as we would not have seen the other beaches in the short time we were in Rio otherwise, Enjoyed the trip on the little train and the view from the top of Corcorvado was amazing. Seeing "The Christ "was a lifetime ambition and we were not dissapointed. Good trip and well organised.

We were picked up on time. The guide was very informative and helpful and spoke four languages. The clouds made our viewing less than ideal, but this had nothing to do with the guide or the tour. Thoroughly enjoyed it!

If you can select a morning tour then do it - the statue was in cloud most afternoons we were there...

The guide was excellent! The reason for the low rating is two fold. First you spend the bulk of the tour transporting passengers. Second this is a tour our can take on your own. There is plenty of mass transportation in the Rio area that can get you there for a far better price and you will save a ton of time. However if money is not a factor and the idea of a bustaxisubway in Rio scares you then by all means fork over the cash...just bring a book.

The tour was well organised but spent far too long going around different hotels picking people up. The guide is very well informed and helpful but again spends far too long repeating the same information in about 4-5 different languages. Sometimes when he gets to the language you understand, the 'point of interest' had already passed. You don't get to spend much time on Corcovado Mountain because of the tour schedule. It was all a bit hectic and no time to really appreciate the sights around.

Took this tour together with the Sugar Loaf Mountain Half-Day tour, you can choose to do it yourself as the guide didn't explain much, just take you to the top, pay for the entrance ticket, & take you down to your hotel once you finish. Nevertheless she has done a good job of dropping me off at my hotel although it wasn't in the drop-off location list.

My trip to Corcovada on June 9, 2010 was terrific. The guide, Paolo, was impressive in telling us what was going, in four different languages. He was very friendly and well-informed. The one disappointment was that the rail line that was supposed to take us through the rain forest was washed out in an April torrent. But the buses and vans were nice substitutes. The view from atop the mountain is absolutely breath-taking. You can see all the way to the airport, and all the sections of the city that I visited Centro, Bottafogo, Copa, Ipanema, Lebron. At the top, I took out my ukulele and sang "Corcovado," in English of course, and drew a croud of Cariocas who sang along in Portuguese. It was a great moment.

Bus pickup was clean and efficient. Guide was multi-lingual but didn't spend much time in English, so I seemed to have missed out on information. We were first to be picked up so spend extraordinary amount of time getting there picking up others. The statue was wrapped in scaffold for cleaning which was disappointing but not the fault of Viator. To be honest, it would probably have been faster to catch a cab there ourselves and not spend so much time getting there. Having said that service was efficient, friendly for those not brave enough to go out on their own.

This was one of my favorite tours. Unfortunately the statue was covered in scaffolding for repairs which won't be finished until May 2010. Not much commentary from the tour guide.

Loved this trip. Went up on the cog train, got front seats and went through the rainforest - just amazing. Saw Christ's statue (currently in scaffolding until June) and had a good guide. I was glad to have taken the half day trip as temperatures were around 36C at 9am!!! Loved it.

The Christ was amazing, very spiritual and uplifting! The guide on the other hand wasn't very pleasant. He almost seemed bothered by the whole trip, maybe personal issues. I don't recommend doing this trip without a tour group. People who went up the mountain on their own ended up waiting in long lines, while we swept through them like VIP members.

I am not a Christian, but the majestic beauty of the statue of the Redeemer inspired spiritual joy in me, as it seemed to inspire in most visitors, young and old alike. Apart from being a wonderful piece of artistic engineering, the Redeemer statue is unique and absolutely fantastic.
