Sugar Loaf Mountain Half-Day Tour

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Spend the morning at Sugar Loaf Mountain, one of Rio de Janeiro's most famous icons. You'll take a breathtaking ride in a cable car to the top of the Sugar Loaf for panoramic views of one of the world's most beautiful cities. This morning tour takes you to one of Rio's most famous attractions and also includes a scenic tour of the city.

The morning tour starts with a panoramic tour of downtown Rio where you'll pass by the infamous Sambadrome, the exhibition area for the renowned Samba schools in Rio. A brief stop is made at the Metropolitan Cathedral, made famous for its unusual pyramid shape. Admire its beauty and rareness from both the outside and the inside!

Your panoramic city tour continues with a visit to the traditional Cinelandia Square where you'll tour the various historic buildings such as the Municipal Theater, the National Library and the National Museum of Fine Arts. Head towards the Urca neighborhood, where one of Rio's most iconic symbols is located, Sugar Loaf Mountain.

Traveling up Sugar Loaf mountain on a cable car, you'll make a brief stop at a vantage point at approximately 700 feet (215 meters) above sea level. Capture unparalleled panoramic views of the city, Guanabara Bay, the Rio-Niteroi Bridge and Corcovado Mountain. You'll then ascend to the peak of Sugar Loaf for breathtaking views of Copacabana Beach, the Santa Cruz Fortress and the beaches of Niteroi.

Once again spent hours picking up people at various hotels and returning them aftter the visit to Sugar Loaf. We went to Sugar Loaf, saw it and that was it. After seeing the Christ Statute this was less than inspiring.

Guide was good, very switched on, missed half the tour and was cut short due to the carnival, tour companies should be aware of this and make alternative arrangements.

Trip went ok although it is a litttle tedious picking up people from various hotels so we made our own way back.

Very good tour. The city part is short-the only real stop outside of Sugar Loaf is at the Metropolitan Cathedral. The rest of the tour is a bus ride, but the real attraction is Sugar Loaf. The views from the mountain are spectacular and worth the price of the tour.

Excellent trip. Pickup on time and plenty of time to see views over Rio. Inexpensive way to do this trip and would recommend to all...

Got a good sense of Rio de Janeiro, with lots I wouldnt have learned otherwise in a short trip. The views fro the top of Sugarloaf were specatacular, but the views from half way stop just as good. Main criticism was that the tour ran to Brazilian time, was expecting to be picked up at 8.00 am, the bus arrived around 8.30 am., had expected to be finished at 12.00 am, was well after 1.00 pm before I got back. Wouldn't have wanted to have been on a tight schedule.

Good tour and well organized. On time and no delays. The tour guide was great, took good care of us. Travelling with a group here made it all the more memorable.

We didn't particulary enjoy this tour, the views of Rio were good but there was a lot of waiting around. This tour would be easily done on your own it definatley wasn't worth the money

I should have been told that the tour company was not going to pick us up at our hotel located in downtown Rio de Janeiro. As a result we had to get up extra early and had to take a cab all the way to the Copacabana Palace to wait for the tour bus. I was very disappointed!!!!!

We sat on the coach for an hour and 15 minutes picking up passengers before the tour even started. We thought it would be a small tour not a large coach. The guided part of the tour was very short with the guide unable to answer questions as she had to give information very quickly in english and spanish whilst the coach was moving. Information was very brief. We had a lot of time at the mountain but then were hanging around waiting for others. Worst of all we were filmed the whole time for them to sell us a video. The cameraman refused to stop filming us even when we requested he did not. It was an invasion of our privacy and unwelcome. It would have been better just to get a taxi and go up the mountain on our own. It was overpriced with no extra tour benefit. I would not recommend the tour.

I guess I just don't like tours in general. Sugarloaf Mtn itself was enjoyable, but I would much rather have taken a cab and just did Sugarloaf. I don't like being herded onto a bus and taken around the city stopping over and over again picking up more and more people - who more often tham not were late in arriving, This extended our tour by an hour and a half easy, from what the length was supposed to be. If I want to see the city I would take a city tour.

Many stops to pick up other tourists who were not ready took quite a bit of time. Knowledgeable guide who spoke good English. Weather not perfect (some fog), but still a worthwhile experience.

Nice tour and good tour guide. Unfortunately, the Sugar loaf mountain was covered with clouds and the view was not that clear. Nevertheless, good tour experience.

The tour was well organised but spent far too long going around different hotels picking people up. The guide is very well informed and helpful but again spends far too long repeating the same information in about 4-5 different languages. Sometimes when he gets to the language you understand, the 'point of interest' had already passed.

Got the chance to take photos of Rio De Janeiro from the top of the Sugar Loaf mountain, not only that but you can also see the plane landing on the other side of the mountain. Highly recommended as this is probably the best spot to have a look at such a beautiful city.

Going up Sugar Loaf is an amazing experience and this way you get to do it safely which was important to us. It was pretty good value for money. My only issue was the tour guide rushed us everywhere and it was a bit like cattle at times. You also need good weather to get the best views. A trip you can't miss though. They do visit the city and provide a briefing as well, but nothing much to see there. We would have preferred not to do that and then not feel rushed up Sugar Loaf.

The tour and guides were wonderful. All that we expected! The bad part of the tour was the trip to other hotels to pickup other people who had booked the tour. Perhaps the use of smaller buses and less stops at hotels would make the tours more enjoyable.

This tour was so breath taking! We saw other sites along the way too. We visited the Cathedral and the Sambodrome. This is a long tour but totally worth it. We separated the tours and I think that was better than committing to a 14-hour day. On an individual basis, each tour was long enough. I wouldn't recommend doing all three together.

We were advised we should watch the video 're-building of the cable cars', so we did on the way down. Turns out the tour was behind schedule so guide decided, unbeknownst to us that there wasn't time! Unfortunately we kept the bus waiting for 20 minutes, but the video was worth seeing!

The tour guide was helpful and seemed to have a good grasp of English. However, the accent was sometimes difficult to understand. Eventually I zoned out. Easier than struggling to understand a guide while I'm on vacation.

It was really good to be at the top of the mountain as the sun set; however, the guide seemed to be going through the motions and rattling off facts, rather than engaging well with the group. This was noticeable as I'd been on the Corcovado tour earlier that day with an excellent guide.

Cable car to Sugar Loaf Mountain was closed, so we went to Urca only. The whole "tour" was a bus to and from the entrance to the cable car. Most of the time we spent on the bus stopping at various hotels to pick up & drop off people.

Better than Corcovado Mountain tour. Too much time on the bus picking up dropping off people. Too many people on the tour, hard to hear or ask questions.

The tour is worth doing. The views from top of the mountain are amazing. The tour guide was great when he came to collect us it was raining heavily and he actually asked if we would like to go or postpone to another day. We did postpone and luckily the next day it was glorious sunshine. The guide was very knowledgeable, so good tour. They actually rang the hotel to let us know they were running late too.

Superb! The tour guide we had spoke with real warmth, about the places we drove past as well as the actual history of Sugar Loaf. He communicated in both English, Portuguese and Spanish and from the amount of laughs and questions from others members on the excursion, he really made the afternoon an enlightening experience. The actual cable car itself was just breathtaking. We even managed to by-pass the extremely long queue at the entrance which helped tremendously. We made our descent at about 530pm, just in time to see the sunset over the city. _br /_ One further comment, I was met at my local hotel by a very friendly representative from the tour company who happily chatted to me about Rio and the great things to see and do, prior to the coach arriving. The enthusiastic manner in which he spoke of his city, further made the excursion a worth while (and memorable) experience.
