Tijuca Rain Forest Jeep Tour from Rio de Janeiro

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Take a morning or afternoon tour from Rio to the Tijuca Rain Forest, in an open jeep. The four-hour jeep tour includes an easy one-hour hike, giving you the chance to spot monkeys, birds, butterflies and tropical flora. You'll be amazed by the remarkable contrast of a tropical rain forest right in the middle of a big city.

At the Tijuca Rain Forest you'll take an eco trek lasting approximately one hour, following an easy trail. There's no better way to experience the living rain forest. You'll have many spectacular photo opportunities on this rain forest jeep tour from Rio de Janeiro.

On your tour you'll pass the Cachoeira dos Macacos (monkey's waterfall), take photos at Vista Chinesa (Chinese view), hear about the important reforestation program and learn the importance of the Mata Atlantica (Atlantic Forest) ecosystem. The tour also takes you past the Mesa do Imperador (Emperor's table), Cascatinha (Taunay's waterfall) and Capela Mayrink (Mayrink Chapel).

Horrible! Jeep showed up to the hotel 1 hour late. Stopped at a mini mart 10 minutes into the trip, so that tourist could buy water for the 50min hike. Stayed at the mini mart for 20 minutes. While in the Tijuca forest, guide drove by many scenic overlooks and historical spots, but did not stop. Guide started to fall asleep in back of jeep. The 50 min hike that we stopped to get water for, never happened. Tour ended at the same time, even though it was an hour late. The hotel staff at the hotel that we stayed at, said that the Jeep Tours always showed up late. Overall, this was the worst tour that I have been on. Everyone on this tour felt like they were ripped off and the 50 min hike that was included in the price, never happened.

I really enjoyed my time during the tour. The guide was very cool and made sure we know what we were looking at. I just wish we could have spent a whole day there. You must see the Tijuca Rain Forest.

this tour was extremely dissapointing. the guide hardly spoke any english and pretty basic spanish so we couldnt really communicate. the "light hike" was 5min walk. the tour, if done by taxi would cost a fraction of the price as there is no entry charge to the forest and taxis in rio are very reasonable. so since there was no guided element it would have been the same outcome. lastly it was raining on the day, and the guide only gave us plastic raincover when we asked for it. they didnt even have enough covers for everyone and wanted to charge 5BRL for it. extremely dissapointing and would not recommend.

This tour was just okay. Unless you're into horticulture, no need to do this tour... There are tons of other things to do in Rio de Janeiro..

I wasn't impressed with this tour even though our guide was very good. I saw similar things on other tours and really could have skipped this one. The way it is presented in the letterature/advertisement, we were expecting a jeep tour "off the paved raods' throught he rain forest, so for us it was a dissappointment.

My wife and I really enjoyed this tour. Our guide Martin was very knowledgeable. We had went to Sugar Loaf the day before and it was a little cloudy.....but on the Tijuca tour, we stopped at the top of the forest and views from there are a MUST see, it more than made up for what we missed while at Sugar Loaf.

The tour was good, but it is quite misleading as it was made to seem as though we will spend hours in the rainforest, not at a local botanical gardens. I have one of those where I live.

This tour was fun. The guide spoke English very well, was very informative, and pretty funny. Our "eco walk" was less than an hour, but I suspect it was because some people on the tour thought it would be best to walk through a wet forest in flip flops. Our guide seemed very aware of the ages and abilities of the group and chose a very easy, clear trail to walk along. Still, he pointed out all sorts of interesting things along the way. Overall, I'd totally take this tour again. Tijuca is beautiful and really worth seeing, but because it is so big, I couldn't imagine trying to navigate through it without a guide.

The rain forest tour was a complete waste of time in such a beautiful city. A jeep basically picks you up and rides you through one of Rio's forests. There is no explanation of what you're seeing or where you're going. The highlight was the ice-cream we ate at our pit-stop. We didn't even get to see a bug so don't expect to see any wildlife.

The tour was good but could be better. We didn't do the 1-hour nature hike as advertised. We did a 10 minute walk which can hardly be described as a hike. I was quite disappointed as I was looking to do more walking and exploring of the forest. They only take you into the beginning of the forest. We only visited one waterfall which was located at the beginning of the forest and skipped the other two waterfalls as well as the Archer ruins. That was very disappointing for me as I wanted to see more of the forest. The plus - our tour guide was very nice and friendly and informative. She told us where to go in Rio and what to do to have a proper local experience. She was definitely a plus.

Our guide was delightful and so knowledgeable. She made the tour fun, even though we lost most of the light and had rain. What a magnificent park. We felt that it was something we needed to see and were not disappointed. There were only 4 of us, so the trip was very personal.

Very cool! The tour guide was very knowledgeable and fluent in many languages. Beautiful weather. We got to see a sloth in slow motion, which was excellent. A monkey foraging for food on a limb. And a family of coatis. Enjoyed it very much.

This is a definite tour I would not want to miss. Our tour guide was excellent. While we saw other tour companies race on by our tour guide stopped to allow us to really experience the forest. The forest was incredibly beautiful. It really gave you a sense of what natural beauty Brazil has.

Visited the Christ statue again on this tour, though we had already done it the day before. A too short walk through the forest with little information about the plants, etc. Our guide had to shout over the noise of the traffic and we still couldn't hear.
