2-Day Italy Trip: Naples, Pompeii, Sorrento and Capri

Rome, Italy

Take time out to tour four of Italy's most popular cities - Naples, Pompeii, Sorrento and Capri - on a two-day excursion from Rome. You'll visit UNESCO World Heritage Sites and discover the rich history of Pompeii and beautiful Sorrento and Capri.

Departing from Rome, you will travel to Naples, famous for delivering the humble pizza to the rest of the world! It is a brazen yet vibrant city and the capital of the Campania region. Naples was first inhabited by the ancient Greeks, who gave it the name Neapolis or "new city".

Next, immerse yourself in the forgotten city of Pompeii. Buried under the ash from the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 B.C., the now preserved site gives historical insights into life during the Roman Empire.

Overlooking the bay of Naples, Sorrento is both a seaside resort town and a rich source of agricultural production. Take your pick of cafe-lined plazas and feast on locally harvested citrus fruit, wine, nuts and olives.

Before returning to Rome, you won't want to miss the Isle of Capri. Ever the crowd pleaser, it lures crowds to its Blue Grotto, so named for the azure limestone glow beneath its waters.

Excellent value for money tour and worth seeing. Lucky to see blue careto. Pompeii ruins and Sorrento city location-very cute. Don't miss ropeway tour at Ana- Capri

It felt like the 45 minutes we spent touring Naples was a waste. The tour group was rather large and the guide had to translate into English and Spanish at each place we stopped at. I felt like it was such a blur and almost not worth the stop. Pompeii was great. We got to see all the major highlights and I was pleased with the amount of information the guide shared with us.

Well worth doing the two day trip, Sorrento and Capri are amazing. Lunch could have been better on the first day. Long trip just for a day in Pompeii.

I'll preface and say that I was glad I went on this trip. This was my first time abroad and I was solo. This trip allowed me to see more of Italy without worrying about my own logistics. There were things I disliked but I have no regrets. Convenience was great. In Naples long enough to not want to go back (trashy). Beware of "local industry" tourist trap in Pompeii. Provided lunch on first day wasn't as advertised. Pompeii ruins were amazing. Sorrento hotel was underwhelming. Beware of "local industry" tourist trap in Sorrento. Benefit of off-season travel is near-private tour of Capri (3 of us). Capri tourguide was a German woman who was so flat throughout the day. Bring money to take the chairlift to the top of Ana Capri. In general, you just need to know what you are getting into with "organized" tours such as these.

Had a great time, 2nd time doing this trip, this time with my family. Only one disappointment, specifically asked to stay in Ambassatori Hotel as had before, main reason for booking again, had paid, only to find that when confirmed was told Ambassatori closed, was not notified and if cancelled would lose all our money, 5 of us.

3 hour bus ride from Rome to Pompeii. Lunch was not exciting, simple, and probably didn't cost much. Pompeii is fantastic. Guide is great. Naples we only spent 1 hour there - clearly not enough time to see anything. We basically walked to the main square and back. Sorrento was brief but beautiful. 1 hour bus from Pompeii to Sorrento. Dinner at hotel is good, Hotel Michelangelo. Tour in Sorrento was about 2 hours: saw a local artist. Trip to Capri by boat - 45 minutes. Capri was very nice and Ana Capri is beautiful. Sights are amazing. All the stores are closed between Nov. to April, so you may get 1 or two gift shops open. But most are closed. Lots of free time given by guide. Blue Grotto is neat. Didn't go in due to the weather but at least I saw the outside and took pictures.

Trip was quite good, Pompeii and Capri being the main sites. We were taken into Naples for barely an hour and the same in Sorrento, so I would suggest Pompeii and Capri as an inclusive trip because nothing much was seen in the other cities. The tour company was efficient and fluent in English and would have no hesitation recommending the guides but not the actual trip. My overall impression was disappointment with Naples and Sorrento

This was a wonderful trip. The tour company was great and very well organized. The hotel in Sorrento was cute. The room was a bit small, but it was clean and I had a view of the coast. The dinner at the hotel was amazing. It was just the right amount of time, although I would suggest adding a day for the Amalfi Coast if you have time.

Wow! Where to begin! If I could give 10 + stars, I would! This tour was so brilliantly orchestrated from start to finish. You felt like you saw ten cities in 2 days! Absolutely a must do experience and a fantastic way to see Amalfi and the beautiful towns of Sorrento and Capri. Food fantastic, places, sites and guides absolutely fantastic! The blonde lady who took us from Sorrento to Capri was absolutely fantastic! She was a lot of fun and very informative. You are crazy if you don't do this tour!

We had a fantastic time on this trip. Our hosts and guides were excellent, handling the logistics smoothly and professionally. The hotel in Sorrento was lovely and dinner was sublime. I only wish I had booked the 3-day and spent a second night in Sorrento. Thanks Viator and hats off to Carrani Tours for a job well done.

Very well done tour, hotel was nice and service top notch. However, the tour company never advised us that we needed to bring pants for the hotel dining room. i had to spend 20 minutes with hotel manager discussing this issue since all we brought with us were shorts. Other than that i would certainly recommend this tour for those interested.

After being picked up at our hotel, we headed for Naples and a short walking tour or the city centre. This was followed by lunch at a Pompeii restaurant and then a very good tour of the historic Pompeii site. From there it was a 40 minute drive to our hotel in Sorrento. To be clear, the highlight of our tour was the time spend in both Sorrento and Capri. I'd recommend that this tour not spend any time in Naples and go directly to Pompeii so as to allow for more free time in Sorrento. Our Sorrento 4 star hotel was located on a cliff overlooking the ocean. It was very nice with a pool and a great restuarant overlooking the Bay of Naples. Very relaxing. In Capri, the weather was excellent and the Blue Grotto was open. We were able to take the chair lift at Anacapri to see some excellent views of the island. We had enough free time to explore both towns of Capri and Anacapri. To conclude, this was a well organized tour that could do without stopping in Naples.

The trip was fantastic overall. We loved the local tour guides, Victor and Sasha, who knew all of the "ins and outs" of the history and culture of the locations and made the trip so enjoyable. Naples could have easily been taken out of the tour- and more time spent in Sorrento and/or Capri Island. The hotel that we stayed at in Sorrento was beautiful and picturesque. The food overall was fantastic except for lunch in Capri on Day 2. Our whole table was dissatisfied with this meal. Overall, I would definitely do this tour again and spend more time in Sorento and Capri Island. Those cities were simply breath-taking!

Tour was great, but we were treated horribly by the tour company. While the company knew which hotel we needed to be transported to; they waited until 10 minutes before end of the tour to tell us they would not transport us there. We were left on a street corner at 10pm with luggage to find our own cab to our hotel. Our kids scared with one in tears. This is after EVERYONE else on the tour had been either dropped off at their hotel or given a cab ride. It was terrible.

I did many tours but this tour by far was the worst ! _br/_ So, I am in Rome and had to reconfirm. Called them 4 times, spoke to 4 different phone reps and none of them were able to find my reservation!! I bought this 6 mnths in advance !One of them hung up on me !!And the other said " we are really busy"!! That was the excuse given to me for not finding my reservation! I also asked the hotel to call..thinking it wud be easier if someone spoke Italian. They kept saying please call back after 20 mins after 30 mins! _br/_ I wasted half day of my vacation just trying to reconfirm. After few hrs finally the 5th one was able to find my reservation and reconfirmed. I had to also call Viator in USA! It was such a waste of a day in Rome ! They really need to be more professional. Very incompetent staff!

Naples was disappointing not worth the trouble .scenery and bus trip was excellent. Sorrento gorgeous ,hotel there was magnificent..Same guide at pompeii and capri was informative but a little dreary in her intereptation thus making the experience a bit boring . I will say we did get to all our spots of interest but there were times that our group had doubts, she did not fill us with confidence.!! Too much walking doing nothing in Capri could have used time happily for ourselves

I believe our trip to Italy would not have been completed. We are pleased to take this tour since we would not have arranged this tour in a short time by ourselves as first-timers. Pompeii was unbelievable and our local tour leader Fabiano was great. Sorrento was a very beautiful city and we liked it too much. Hotel Michelangelo was good too. Capri, Anacapri and blue grotto were amazing. Unfortunately we could not stay there more but certainly if we will have an other trip, Sorrento and Capri will be one which we would visit again. The only dark point of this tour is Food , either in Pompeii or in the hotel. Naples could be eliminated from this tour too.

Naples was just OK; Sorrento @ Hotel Michaelangelo and stay was good; Pompei did not provide enough time to enjoy, plus too many school kids to enjoy the tour; Capri was beautiful. Tour guide Sascha was good. shuttle at end of tour to our hotel tried to drop us off at the corner of our street for us to go up the hill with our luggage...they reluctantly drove us up the hill. Otherwise, we enjoyed the whole trip.

The guides, hotels, and tours were 5 star. Our group of 8 was particularly impressed with your guides. Each was quite unique in their style and approach, but all knew their biz extremely well. Example when we commented during a tour that we were sorry we hadn't gotten any pizza in Naples . . . the guide arranged that we could have "pizza" at our very next meal. The tours ran like clockwork, with good hand offs from one guide to the next. With only one exception we were never left wondering what was going to happen next.

Trip was great with fantastic scenery but the disappointment was being unable to see the Blue Gotto due to weather conditions. The minus part was the facilitation of the whole trip. There were no proper 'handover' / communication from the day trip city guide to the local guide at Pompeii. Felt like a item on the conveyor belt waiting to be 'picked up'. Proper communication on next steps is a must

The negatives: The bus from Rome to Pompeii was terrible--no leg room and my wife and I with artificial joints were very uncomfortable. A bad experience. The short tour of ugly Naples was a waste of time--couldn't hear the guide and the place was a dump. Positives: the hotel in Sorrento was excellent, and the tour of Capri was enjoyable. The guided tour of Pompeii was very good. Again, the bus back to Rome was not pleasant--zero leg room. You should send those buses back to China.

We had a great guide in Sorrento/Capri. I would skip the stop in Naples. The initial pickup from the hotel was very confusing as the driver did not speak English. We were mixed with day trip travelers and many languages. The hotel was wonderful. A great trip overall.

Pompeii was unbelievable! Fabio was our guide from Rome to Naples. Gorgeous! was so organised and efficient and our overnight stay in Sorrento was at a beautiful hotel. Next day the water was too rough to visit the Blue Grotto so our guide organised a boat trip around the whole island of Capri in lieu. We returned to Rome late at night and we were dropped off at our hotel. Highly recommend this tour. Great value for money.

You can totally skip the Naples part. Tour bus was not suitable for tall people as they crammed in the seats to maximise numbers. The food provided on the tour was absolutely terrible and I would have preferred to but my own meals. The supplier needs to organise better lunch venues. Simply hideous and left the feeling that you were being ripped off. Tour of Pompeii was great as was the trip to the Blue Grotto. Tour guides in Pompeii, Sorrento, Carpri and Ana Capri were also good. Accommodation in Sorrento at the 4 star hotel was excellent and saved the day.

all good stuff but take care when booking for a group. would suggest booking and paying individually re hotels - as viator use subcontractors and there was a miscommunication re rooms at the 4star hotel during our tour. was all sorted locally in the end but at the end of a long day it was the last thing we needed (lots of hassle and one room for all 3 of us - for the same cost per person, cheeky eh)!

The highlight of the tour was Sorrento & Capri. The vistas were amazing and the hotel was beautiful! Dinner & breakfast on the terrace overlooking the Bay of Naples was fantastic. Hotel was definately a 4 star! Tour guides were great, but when all information is translated into three different languages it gets laborious. Naples was just okay, it would have been nice to walk through the Galleria Umberto instead of just looking at it from across the street. Lunch outside of Pompeii was not very good and the cameo factory was unimpressive. Pompeii was amazing, but an hour would have been sufficient before heading to Sorrento. If you are able, stay more than one night in Sorrento in order to take advantage of the hotel's amenities and the area!

The 2 day trip was a unique opportunity to see the south of Italy on a limited time frame. The transfers from one tour guide to the next were fantastic, all guides were at the assigned places as was transportation. Sasha in Capri was unique as he directed us flawlessly to the Blue Grotto after we embarked from the high speed boat to Capri and had he not been so organized we would have waited hours to go in, instead our boat was waiting at the dock, took us right there got us in and out and back to Marine Grande in less than an hour! Our only somewhat dissapointment was out of our 11 member group to Sorrento, we were housed downtown at the Michaelangelo, a beautiful hotel none the less, but we for some reason did not get the hotel overlooking the bay. We did get the opportunity to walk around downtown all night and in the morning, where the remainder of the group stayed at their hotel, which was nice for us, so all in all it worked out okay. The buses are really tiny but that is in all of Italy, but they did a great job getting us to our tours in a timely fashion. Some people did not like the cameo factory demo, but it lasted three minutes and you did not have to buy, it was where you ate lunch so no big deal. Our weather was incredible and Sacha's recommendation to do the chair lift to the top of the island of Capri, made the trip. My group is hard to please and Viator did a great job!

Interesting tour - we were glad we did it. Tour guides were very good - and Irena - what a hoot! The guides were very knowledgeable and very thoughtful. We had a lot of fun. Hotel was excellent! Our pick up from the hotel and the man at the hotel desk had a miscommunication and we were told to go with the wrong driver from another tour. It all worked out in the end, but I have to say that I questioned the man more than once and he assured me we were to go with him and I had a feeling it wasn't right because of what my tour guide had told me the day before. Our luggage was taken when it shouldn't have been and to get us back to the hotel and to the correct shuttle, the driver drove very fast and recklessly, we thought. Our journey started out on the wrong foot, but it wasn't the fault of the tour company. A scary beginning, however and something to consider changing so it doesn't happen to someone else!

The trip was actually great. What I didn't enjoy was the fact that the tour wasn't English speaking only. It took the tour guides twice as long to explain things, switching between Spanish and English. The tour guide that we had in Naples and Pompeii annoyed me the most, because he spent way too long in Spanish and I totally lost interest in listening to him. He took too long in explaining the history in Pompeii such that the group didn't actually see everything in Pompeii. I wish we were given the audioguide in English and explored the place ourselves. The guide in Capri was great though!

This was a great trip! There are several different tour guides for the different parts. I was amazed how well organized everything was and how great each guide was. My only recommendation would be it would be nice to know in advance how long the wait for the Blue Grotto likely will be, the waves and fuel fumes from boats made me a little seasick although the Grotto was amazing, some people might like to opt out of this part. The hotel I was booked into was very nice with a spectacular view. I wish I had booked a longer trip!
