We came into port on a cruise line and booked this trip privately. It got off to a rocky start by us spending our first hour trying to find our driver and bus. Our group was 11 and followed the directions to take the shuttle bus from the ship to the port building (This port is HUGE). We got off the shuttle thinking our driver would be somewhere in sight with the lead travelers name, not the case. We questioned everyone we saw that had a bus/car or coach waiting, they all spoke VERY LITTLE English which added to our frustration. Finally we were about to give up when one the men pointed to around the backside of this building and said "maybe back there". Our entire group set off to walk behind the building and low and behold we found our bus - the very last one parked empty but the lead travelers name in the window. As we all stood by the bus figuring the driver must come back at some point he finally showed up about 10 mins later. He didn't speak English either. We loaded the bus and he took us into Rome to meet our guide, which was an excellent guide - Valeria, she was an expert in all the history. Next came our 2nd disappointment of the day, we had paid extra to skip the que (lines) to get into the Vatican, for some reason it took us over an hour to get into the Vatican, which cut short time at other places. It seems our driver had issues with parking and there was more walking than we imaged on this tour. Only made it to the Coliseum and Trevi Fountain after the Vatican and back to the ship.

The tour and guide were great. Franchesca was informative and charming, especially considering that the political protests changed our tour itinerary. Also, Marco, the driver was fantastic, getting us incredibly close to our destinations and navigating very difficult traffic. Only concern is that it would have been nice to be re-booked or refunded for the tours that we missed due to the protests (we were not able to go to the Colosseum or forum).

We can't say enough about this fantastic tour. The skip-the-line tickets alone are worth the price. Our guide, Uta, helped us navigate the crowds and explained everything we were seeing - she worked with us to plan the day so that we made the most of our short time in the eternal city. People on our cruise couldn't believe all that we were able to do and see. Don't miss this tour!

Rome was awesome. Never would have seen everything we saw without our guide. He was great. Ship was an hour late getting into port, so we were an hour late getting to the point where our driver picked us up. When we first got there (we had to take a shuttle out of the port to meet our guide) we couldn't find him, but after a few minutes we were in the van and on our way to Rome. Everything went smooth. Guide was really good. Got us in all the places without having to wait. Very informative. When you go to Rome, it is so much better to have a private tour. It is worth every penny you spend on it. You are able to see so much more. We also did the Livorno Excursion and it was awesome too. Viator is a good company to book through. Had no problems at all. Would recommed them highly.

There was some confusion about meeting the driver--instructions told us to take the shuttle bus to the entrance of the port and he would be waiting with a sign. He was not there and it took several calls and about half an hour to locate him. Our guide was absolutely wonderful--he had so many interesting details at each location. He took us to a wonderful restaurant near the Pantheon, and we were returned to the port in plenty of time.

Highly recommend! Our tour guide, Graham, was very knowledgeable. There were 9 of us in the group and we all enjoyed the day. Our only concern was the confusion coming off of the cruise ship and trying to find the driver. Once we got to Rome, it was a day to remember!

The tour was fantastic. Our guide, Graham, was knowledgeable and made it fun and interesting for us. He knew his way around the city and took us directly to all of the sites we wanted to see. He knew of a great place to eat, PizzaRe', the pizza was great. He knew a lot of interesting facts and interjected humorous "tidbits" as well. He was from California so his English was perfect. My children and I absolutely loved this tour. Our guide was enthusiastic and made it interesting even for my 8 year old son. It was great to skip the lines and for the short time we were in Rome I felt we were able to see so much. It was well worth the money!

AMAZING!!! This tour was exactly what we hoped for. We had a very knowledgeable driver and guide. First, the driver picks you up at the ship and then you go to the Vatican where the guide is waiting for you. Both were experts on Rome and couldn't do enough to help us. (Rigas was our driver and Francesca was our guide) They will follow the standard tour but you can change it anyway you'd like.

We had a wonderful time on our excursion last week. Both Carlos the driver and Katherine the Guide were exceptionally professional and gracious. We particularly enjoyed our day with Katherine and all her interesting stories behind the scenes of all the monuments in Rome. She gets very high marks from our group. Make sure you tell her the Cuban Girls from Miami loved her!!!!

I can not say enough! This tour was 1st class all the way! The Mercedes and driver were waiting for us at the ship, very easy to find. Smooth drive into Rome where we met our tour guide Claudia. So nice and welcoming. She new exactly when to move things along and where to spend a little more time. Beyond informative and entertaining. We started with Vatican City, which we flew into because of the 'skip the line' tickets. Spent a few hours here and were shown around and informed of all the history and had our questions answered. Colosseum was next, we also had 'skip the line' tickets for this as well. Then headed around the city taking in all the sights like, 4 Rivers Fountain, Trevi fountain, the Pantheon, Roman Forum, Spanish steps, and so much more. There were 2 of us on this tour and would have never been able to see and do everything we did if it wasn't for this tour, our amazing tour guide and driver. This is PERFECT for the cruiser. Especially with the 'skip the line' tickets included. IT is expensive but it is well worth it!!! THANKS CLAUDIA, VALENTINO, and VIATOR!!!!

Rome was very crowded the day of our visit which limited the places we could visit.. Our guide was knowledgeable but tried to show us everything which resulted in being rushed and constantly trying to keep him in sight. He should adjust his itinerary to the age of the group he is guiding.

The 5 of us learned so much regarding the history, culture, building of and what remains of the fantastic buildings in Rome. What an incredible day in Rome! Our guide, Vincenz was just perfect. He knows Rome inside out and really enabled us to understand and appreciate all the magnificent places in Rome. We had lunch with the locals in a wonderful restaurant that we never would have found on our own. We will definitely book future shore excursions with Viator.

The only criticism I have is that there was alot of confusion about where we would be picked up. First it was at the ship. Then I was notified that we would have to take a shuttle to the customs gate. In the end and after taking the shuttle and being unable to find our car and driver, I took the shuttle back to the ship and found him standing there. He had not been there when we first got off the ship. I also thought that we would have more freedom to choose sites in the afternoon but was told we had to return directly to the ship after lunch. My impression was that we would have all day and could select other sites to visit in the morning and afternoon as long as there was enough time to get back to the ship. Our guide however was delightful, organized and knowledgable..

Tour guide was great - informative, knowledgable, friendly and accommodating. The only problem we had was that we were told that the tour service was only allowed to have one tour vehicle on the pier at a time, so we had to share a vehicle with another group until we exited the pier to begin our tour. This would not have been a problem except that when we retuned from the tour we had to wait for 20 mintues in a very hot and uncomfortable van for the return of the second van in order to be returned to the the pier.

The weather was horrible, but our guide Graham was wonderful. He was so knowledgeable and being from Calif. certanily no language problems. We got to see more than we had expected to and were back to the ship with time to spare and half of the cost of ship tour.

This private shore excursion was well worth the price only about 15 per person more than the Holland America shore excursion. There were 3 children 4, 6, 12 and 5 adults and we had a private bus that seated 12. It was air conditioned and perfect for our group. Our tour guide in Rome was absolutely fabulous - an American who spoke perfect English and was very knowledgeable. This was by far the best shore excursion we had on this trip. The tour itself was wonderful! Our tour guide was the best guide we have ever had. She told us the history of everything we went to see and spoke 11 languages fluently, so we had no problem understanding her. We were able to see everything possible in the shortest amount of time. The only drawback, and it was a real problem, was that the bus driver was an hour late and was extremely rude to us. He didn't speak to us at all the whole time we were on the tour and tried to blame us for his lateness. We had all gotten up at 5:00 in the morning to be there early for our 7:30 tour and he didn't show up until 830, saying he had been sitting at the wrong dock. The tour guide made up for his rudeness, however, and did everything she could to make our tour great for us.
