Rome to Pompeii Shuttle Bus & Independent Day Trip

Rome, Italy

An independent round-trip tour from Rome to Pompeii by air-conditioned coach. It's the best way to arrange a do-it-yourself tour of Pompeii from Rome. When you get to Pompeii, you can tour the site independently or take one of the guided group tours departing from the entrance to the site (additional cost, payable direct).

Despite wars waged on its soils, assaults by earthquakes and a volcano eruption 19 centuries ago, Pompeii remains a vibrant, well-preserved and accessible destination. As you wander from mosaic to monument, and temple to theater, you'll step back in time and imagine daily life in this legendary city. To help you navigate your way around the site, remember that all paths begin and end with beautiful frescoes depicting scenes from daily life in ancient Pompeii.

The trip from Rome to Pompeii takes three and a half hours. Note, you'll board the shuttle for your return journey at 3:30pm, arriving back in Rome at around 7pm.

The only way to get to Pompeii and get a decent amount of time (between 3-4hrs) to see some of the many things that are there. Thanks.

I sent an e--mail through you website and never received an answer so I will try again. I enjoyed the trip to Pompeii. However, I was very unhappy with the bus driver. He talked on his cell phone part of the way there and almost the whole way home. I feel that this was extremely unprofessional. His attention should have been solely on driving that bus and the safety of his passengers and not on his personal calls. Also his voice was lound and the front half of the bus was forced to have to hear listen and it was disruptive to what chould have been a pleasant drive. As, I said, I enjoyed Pompeii once I got there but the ride that I paid for was a disappointment. It is also disappointing when a customer tries to reach out through your website and receives no response. Barbara

This was a good option to seeing Pompeii from Rome. The trip is a good 3 hrs each way and visually attractive. The negative aspects as I see them are that the guide spoke little with us, and there was no literature available about Pompeii as had been indicated in the promo.

Our trip was exactly what we wanted - a nice comfortable bus ride to and from Pompeii. We had four hours to roam around the ruins which was plenty of time. It was about a 2 1/2 to 3 hr. ride. They stopped at a rest stop after 1 1/2 hours. It was your typical rest stop with food and facilities. Every thing went smoothly. We would recommend it.

This is a good way to see Pompeii on a day trip from Rome. No worries about organising rail tickets and transfers from Naples. Better value than a fully organised tour with a guide, and with no trips to local factories selling their wares. The best way to look around Pompeii is in my view to do it independently using a map bought at the entrance gate. The trip meets at offices near the railway station, embarking the coach from beside the station. Recommended.

I was disappointed with the fact that this wasn't actually a tour. Perhaps I should have read it again, but basically this is just a lift to pompeii. We went and arrived at Pompeii, had to pay entry to the site ourselves and there were no english maps available to we then had to fork out for a guide on location. Not really value for money.

The shuttle bus provided stress-free travel to Pompeii from Rome which was exactly what we wanted. The rest/food stops coming and going were timed just right. Wish bus seats were a little roomier.

The actual trip was very comfortable, but absolutely no interaction with the customers from the tour guide throughout the journey to Pompeii or on way back to Rome. _br/_ Was good at showing us to the gates of entry and reinforcing pick up times.

Good independent trip with plenty of time to see Pompeii, though not as represented. Our "hostess" did not hand out any information other than a sheet of paper with 10 locations (but no directions or map) to see at Pompeii. There were no videos, no books, and no other information on Pompeii on the bus. Problems we had included trying to find the location of the pickup point and the bus accommodations. Note that the Italian tour buses do not have on board toilets and have extremely little leg room.

The coach journey was pleasant it took 2 hours 40 minutes, mostly motorway. The female guide made a small reference to Monte casino when we passed it she could have possibly told us in advance, but no other communication or facts on the way there which was a shame. We had a rest stop 90 minutes into the journey which was fine. Upon arrival the guide took us to the entrance after parking the coach and gave us the relevant info about our return pick up point. we had 4 1/2 hrs to look around which was plenty, we paid 10 euros each for a guide which was a must, he took 2 hours but made the ruins come alive, the head sets are not v good we were told and can stop working. There is an eatery inside which is fine and cafes etc outside which are as reasonable for lunch, all in all a good trip wear sensible footwear as the streets are cobbled and again the guide inside Pompeii is essential to fully enjoy the experience.

The contact information was clear and the bus service prompt and efficient. Our guide on the bus was very clear about timings and where we should enter and leave the site. The books on Pompeii, which the tour info said would be provided on the bus, were not, nor did our guide give any talk on the site other than the forementioned. Other than this last comment, we were happy with the trip and would book with Viator again.

I thought it was a waste of money, There is an autogrill in the middle of the ruins! Thats cheap! The ticket office refused to give us a map so we had to guess at what we were looking at. In the town food is expensive and the market stall sellers are sleazy, The best bit was the bus ride in comfort and our bus tour guide. The rest was really disappointing,

We found the shuttle bus a good option as we were unfamiliar with the trains etc from Rome. Once we arrived we used an official guide along with some of our fellow travellers to show us around the sights. The journey was straightforward and comfortable. Our only gripe would be that there was not any literature provided on the bus as advertised.

I like the ponctuality of the bus. But the guide and the bus driver were very busy talking all the way to Pompeii and the driver kept turning his head away from the road to speak with the guide who was seating across behind him. This made me and my family very nervous.

The trip was well organized and we stopped off for a bathroom break about an hour away from Pompeii. I had read other reviews on Viator and knew what to expect. Our guide was friendly and helpful and made sure we were all back safely. A group of us got together and hired a guide for Pompeii which was a great idea. Extremely hot in August so bring plenty of water and a hat. It's worth it!

We thought the trip was ok. I had thought that there would be some info available on the bus beforehand (books, etc. as described in the company info), but there wasn't. We got lost on our way back to the bus and we thought the guide could have been more helpful. Bus ws clean and comfortable.

We had a wonderful trip to Pompeii and the coach was absolutely fine. The negative points however were that there was only one pick up point - 3 blocks from the Rome station, which is an effort to get to by 7.30am when you are a foreigner staying in a part of the city some distance away. Secondly, why could the company not have included the ticket entry in the price - instead we had to line up in a very long queue in 33degree heat. Despite all this - the trip was great - but expensive for the minimal service provided. A train to Naples and the local train into pompeii would have been much cheaper and not difficult. That way you could avoid arriving at the time that all the tour buses arrive.

It was a very good trip. I would just have some maps of the area available. We were told they would be available for free when you purchase our tickets, but the person there told us they did not furnish the maps, that we had to buy them in the gift shop. Also another hour added would give you the time to see the whole site in a more relaxed pace.

Although we got a late start, the bus trip was relatively comfortable and worth it to not have to worry about changing trains in Naples. I would recommend to any one wanting to visit Pompeii from Rome and have the freedom to explore the site on his or her own.

We really enjoyed our trip to Pompeii from Rome. The hardest part was finding the Viator office near Termini - the rest was wonderful! We were comfortable on the bus, which stopped to allow us to use facilities and purchase snacks/drinks. We didn't want to be gabbed at and guided around, which they didn't do. We enjoyed discovering Pompeii on our own, and knew our trip to and from was safe, secure and comfortable. I would do it again.

Good day out but Pompeii looks like a scene from Fallout 3. Not sure what I expected but there was lots os samey stuff with scattered highlights of frescos and mosaics. Loads of no-entry signs and locked gates and the map has different street names to those on the signs so getting lost is easy.

Shuttle was safe, as expected, and acceptable. The bus stopped at a truck stop half way to Pompeii for a restroom break for 15 minutes-same on the way back. Mostly Americans on the bus. We didn't know how they conducted business there...I think you had to pay for food before you got it...totally opposite any truck stop in the States. It would've been helpful to the passengers if we were informed about the procedure to purchase food so that I could've gotten my children something to eat and drink.

100% excellent! We accidentally missed our bus due to a miss understanding of the information, we went down to the office at around 8:15am, they were very understanding and rescheduled our trip. On the day of the trip the bus was punctual, it was comfortable and air conditioned. The guide pointed out a few landmarks as we drove down. the time we had in Pompeii was plentiful, on the way back the motorway was closed, the guide explained this to us and explained we would be slightly delayed. The views along the coast were stunning so the alternative route was not a problem. In the end we were only around 40 minutes later than planned. It was worth the money, we had toilet stops, i would certainly recommend this trip.

The tour departed on time, aboard a new, extremely comfortable touring coach. The driver was excellent and the tour guide, Maria, was polite and unintrusive. The tour delivered transportation to and from with appropriate relief breaks along the way. My only misgiving is that the bus stopped at a commercial souvenir shop and coffee bar in Montecassina on the way back, in view of the mountaintop monastery made famous in World War II, but did not take the extra step of driving a short distance into the town and giving riders a chance to photograph the hilltop monastery.

The trip said what it would do - a pleasant air conditioned coach trip to Pompeii and back again. Plenty of time to explore on our own when we got there, and the queue to enter the site was only about 20 minutes. We did not take up a guide, but if you wanted to do this, there were people available. Entry cost was very reasonable - 11 euros for adults, 5.50 euros for students with proof of student status - NUS card, and free for 18s and under with proof of age - passport. Loos ouside the site charged 0.50. Loos in the site are free and pleasant and clean - and the cafe sells a reasonable selection of food at a reasonable price e.g. pizza with drink and either a savoury side order or a sweet for 7.70 euros. Also, there are fountains in the site where the water is drinkable - just take a plastic bottle to fill. Viatour office was easy to find, and the staff expecting us - could not have been easier. I had read the reviews before going, and taken the decision on the basis of these to go it alone once we got there. There is so much to see, and the site is so big, that this enabled us to take our own time, and make our own way. Really enjoyed it, and would definitely recommend as an easy and assured way of getting to the site. Party consisted 2 adults with 20 year old son, and 17 year old daughter.

We really enjoyed out trip to Pompeii. Our guide - Magda - was very helpful, informative and cute! The bus ride was comfortable and relaxing. Pompeii itself is full of amazing history to discover at every turn. There was plenty of time to see the ruins, shop for some cheesy souvenirs and have a nice lunch. This is definitely a great day trip well worth your time. Thank you Enjoy Rome!
