San Antonio Grand Sightseeing Tour

San Antonio, United States of America

Discover the origins of San Antonio on a sightseeing tour featuring sights including The Alamo, Mission San Jose and the Japanese Sunken Gardens.

You'll visit The Alamo - the most famous spot in Texas, where David Crockett, Colonel William Barrett Travis, Jim Bowie and 186 others died fighting for independence on March 6, 1836.

You'll see the Spanish Governor's Palace which has been labeled "the most beautiful building in San Antonio" by the National Geographic Society. The palace is furnished with antique pieces and artifacts from the early 1700's.

Take a relaxing riverboat cruise down the beautiful Paseo Del Rio, shaded by towering cypresses, oaks and willows, and bordered by gardens of ornamental foliage.

A visit to historic Market Square is a fun experience. From the famous 24-hour restaurant and bakery, Mi Tierra, to an outstanding art gallery and century-old pharmacy, this is a great place to shop for gifts or to just relax and enjoy a little people watching.

Founded in 1720, Mission San Jose became the largest and best known of the Texas missions, with up to 300 inhabitants at one time. The mission is now fully restored and boasts several unique features including the famous "Rose Window".

The Japanese Sunken Gardens feature winding pebble walkways, stone bridges, a waterfall and tranquil pools among lush gardens. Also enjoy a drive through beautiful Brackenridge Park and by the world-renowned San Antonio Zoo.

Visit Mission Concepcion and be transported back in time to the era of Spanish conquest. Learn how the Spanish developed the mission system within the San Antonio area and Texas and how they and Native Americans lived and worked in the mission era.

Amazing tour with a wonderful, professional, personable, and knowledgeable guide! Yes, many of the sites viewed are free (i.e. tea gardens, market square, and Alamo) but others like the Buckhoorn Saloon museum, the boat ride, and the mission visits do cost money, so the trip is worth it. I liked the air conditioned bus--it was nice in the 95 degree heat. Also, the guide answered all questions. It was awesome and I took great pics of everything! Lunch was on your own, but you were by the Alamo and local mall, so plenty of options. A great day, and the tour was totally worth every penny. I went on my own, and it was safe and enjoyable. If you visit San Antonio, this is a MUST-DO! You will not be sorry. I loved every moment of it. My fave was going to Market Square...lots of shops and cheap eats! Once I learned where stuff was...I went back later on my own to spend more time there! This is great for the beginning of a trip so you can suss out the best things to do!

Fair at Best. _br/_ Did not see governor house and alternative to boat tour was quite boring. You can do all this on your own except the 2 missions. A hop on and hop off would be much better than this long tour - with too long stops at nointersting places and short stops for the most interesting. No Alamo Tour it is done on your own.

I went on this tour with my parents. They had lived in San Antonio 44 years ago and things have changed a bit since then. It was nice to have someone drive who knew the city and we didn't have to find our way around. The driver was personable and knowledgeable. We had a good time.l

Very informative bus driver - learned a lot from him. Unfortunately very few flowers in bloom at the Japanese Tea Garden probably due to the time of year.

Our guide did an exceptional job leading the tour, a true Texan! More importantly my children found it fun and educational. I definitely recommend it.

We really enjoyed the day. I wish we had had the benefit of the tour guide inside the missions and the church, but respect the guide's preference not to add to noise in sanctuary. The bus ride was informative, as was boat ride. There was not enough time at the market. All in all, this was a good day!

Everything was closed that we drove by and the things that were open, the tour guide just dropped us off and said "Ok, I'll meet you back here in four hours."

Because the Japanese Tea Garden is under renovation, they substituted the San Fernando Cathedral, which we had wanted to see more than the Tea Garden. The only thing we would have changed was that we wanted more time at the the San Juan mission and Mission Concepcion - we were rushed going through. Otherwise the tour was great!

We really enjoyed our trip to San Antonio. It was our 1st anniversary and San Antonio was perfect for us. We did the Grand Tour of San Antonio. We were disappointed at first when we found out that the Japanese Tea Gardens were closed. But our guide made up for it. Very informative and personable. We visited the Alamo and two missions, took a boat ride at the Riverwalk, and went to a Mexican shopping area that was having a fiesta. Wish we could have spent more time there. The Riverwalk was great at night. We'll definitely come back. Thanks for a great tour!

If you're staying downtown most of the sites are within walking distance. The Japanese Garden was closed and under repair. Not worth the money.

The person leading the tour was very knowledgeable, had good humor and was a pleasure to listen to. The bus was fine and it was a great tour, except for one stop at the Sunken Japanese Gardens. History was provided, driving very good. Adequate comfort stops.

Most places were free admissions, which I could have done myself. Tea gardens were not completed, was not worth seeing in that stage. People on bus smoked, wish I would have booked a non-smoking tour. The best part was the river walk boat ride.
