San Diego Whale Watching Expedition Cruise

San Diego, United States of America

See magnificent California gray whales on their annual journey from the Arctic to California's Baja Coast on a whale watching cruise from San Diego. If you don't see a whale on the cruise, you'll get a 'Whale check' to try again another time!

Follow the migration of the California gray whale to the warm breeding grounds off the Baja Coast. Seeing a California gray whale in the wild is an exhilarating experience you will never forget. Other marine wildlife may also make an appearance including seabirds and sea lions.

Between December and April the gray whale travels approximately 6,000 miles from the cold waters of the Arctic to the warmer waters of the Baja Coast. Here they give birth to their young and prepare them for the long trek back. On the return trip the young calves can frequently be seen swimming at their mother's side.

Guarantee: If whales are not sighted, a 'Whale Check' good for another whale watching or harbor tour will be issued.

THE MOTION SICKNESS WAS THE WORST PART, BUT BESIDES THAT THE WHALES CAN BE SEEN EVERYWHERE. THE CREW TOOK EXTRA TIME TO MAKE SURE WE SAW PLENTY OF VARITIES OF WHALES.

We had a great time! We saw a pod of 4 Grey Whales, Risso Dolphins, Common Dolphins, and couple of Bottlenose Dolphins. I will go again!

Great trip! Well organized, getting to and onto the boat was very easy. Parking is a little tight near the dock but we parked at the USS Midway (paid for 4 hrs) and made it back just in time. We were lucky and saw several whales on our trip, but even if that hadn't happened, we still would have enjoyed it. The captain was entertaining and informative, the ship was comfortable, and the views were outstanding. I highly recommend this trip - even if the whales don't cooperate, it's a great time.

Rather busy boat, and quite large. Didn't see any whales so got another trip. However, it is dated until November this year and currently no plans to return to San Diego before then, other whale watching tours give a ticket open indefinitely.

Your staff was curtious and helpful, but since we didn't see any whales, I feel like I wasted my money.

Since I had never been on a whale expedition before, I didn't know what to expect. Unfortunately, the waves were too big and half the people on board were throwing up, which is not very enjoyable. Whales were finally spotted after 3 hours. Saw only some spray from their air hole but that was about it. I think cruise should have been canceled or at least shorten duration from 3 1/2 hours to 2 hours. Wouldn't do it again.
Review: 2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better

Our Captain was excellent! What a wonderful morning to watch any number of whales, and a dolphin pod numbering in the hundreds. We were most fortunate. Thank you!

Beautiful day, nice crew, saw a couple of whales from a distance. Would like to have seen a whale breach or show itself, but obviously understand that's out of crew's control. Had also hoped to see dolphins, but didn't. Again out of crews control. All in all, just nice day to be out.

We really enjoyed the trip. The weather was beautiful but a little chilly. We were prepared though and were very comfortable. Apparently our trip was not in high viewing season, and we only saw 2 whales, but it was still good. The guide and staff were excellent.

I loved it! The captain and crew were great, and the whales were magnificent. The only thing that I did not like was the captain petitioning for tips at the end of the trip. Overall, I am very satisfied.

We were lucky enough to find 2 huge humpback whales and spent almost 2 hours floating near them. It's important to note that not all tours see whales. They told us that the morning sightseeing tour that day did not locate any.

A great experience!! Unluckily you can only see easily some parts of the whales, they don't always come out with the face! And then, seasickness at the end!!

You have to be patient and wait for the whales to surface. They can hold their breath any where from 3-10 minutes. The best part of the trip was at the end when we seen a mega pod of dolphins! Absolutely incredible!!!

It was a very enjoyable trip. Unfortunately we didn't see any whales, but were given a coupon to go back for another cruise. Nice thought but we live to far away. But we enjoyed the cruise, the staff was very nice and it was a beautiful day. We did see lots of dolphins and seals.

I enjoyed the whale watching expedition very much. I would rate this absolutely fantastic except that it was much colder than I expected. I purchased a sweatshirt before I got on the cruise because I checked with the naturalists and she told me it would be cold. Also, the ship was out of most sizes of shirts. I luckily found this out from the ticket sales person, since it was the end of the season. I purchased a hat on the ship too and that helped but gloves would have been good too. Of course, I had to sit outside the entire time at the front of the ship so that I wouldn't miss a thing! But that's just me. I saw four small whales. I appreciated the pricing of purchasing the ticket in advance.

The tour was wonderful and exciting. The only negative thing I have to say is regarding the online booking process. There is no phone number in case of cancellations or changing booking. Going through support is very frustrating since there is a day delay for responses.

Looked like we were on the best boat as the one next to us from another company kept rocking back and forth - so much so I thought surely people were about to fall out!

We had a good day for being out on the water. We did not get to see any whales, but saw dolphins and sea lions, so it wasn't a total loss, and we got a rain check to come back since we didn't see any whales.
