USS Midway Museum

San Diego, United States of America

Experience life at sea without leaving port by visiting the USS Midway Museum, San Diego's newest visitor attraction. A visit to this historic naval aircraft carrier museum is an essential experience for people of all ages.

The USS Midway was the US Navy's longest serving carrier of the 20th century (1945-1992), and the largest ship in the world for a decade, housing 4,500 crew! Now you can walk in the footsteps of 225,000 sailors on a self-guided audio tour narrated by former Midway sailors and officers.

More than 65 locations, from the engine room to the bridge, and 25 restored historic aircraft are on display. The USS Midway also contains interactive exhibits and climb-aboard aircraft for all ages. Don't miss the flight simulators, gift shop and cafe.

Experience what it was like to be part of a "city at sea", explore galleys, officer's country, sleeping quarters and the engine room of the first Navy ship too large for the Panama Canal! You will be amazed by the 4-acre flight deck and the 360-degree panoramic view of downtown San Diego.

Located in Navy Town USA, a visit to the Midway is uniquely San Diego!

The tour is an eye opener....the museum is well worth the tour.....the insides look so different from the way hollywood portrays them._br/_ The crowds made the line to take the bridge tour a time problem for us and we missed it. We arrived on a Princess cruise ship, which diminished the size impression of the carrier....the cruise ship was much larger. We were nevertheless very pleased and highly recommend the museum.

It was quick and easy. And the savings using Viator were the best we could find. It would have been nice if we could have gone to the front of the long line. Even through we paid in advance, it was a voucher and we had to confirm it at the ticket window and stand in line.

My family had a great experience visiting the USS Midway Museum. The guides were knowledgeable and fun to listen to. On the way to the museum It took us 2.5 hrs to get through the traffic due to the Balloon parade in downtown but it was worth it!

Although not having a personal interest in aircraft carriers, I did find my visit suprisingly interesting. The volunteers on board were all very passionate about the boat and were all very helpful. The boat was much bigger than I expected and although spending over three hours there, we still didn't see everything. It made for an excellent visit and I would highly recommend it.

Great excursion! We had planned on spending a couple of hours here but ended up staying almost six! Be prepared for a workout with climbing the narrow, steep stairs. It was wonderful to talk to the volunteers about their experiences. Also, my husband and son both did the flight simulator actually used to train navy pilots ($20 each). Highly recommend. We were docked in San Diego as our port day on a cruise and walked two blocks to the museum. We also saved a lot of money by booking through Viator instead of using coupons or a AAA discount.

My family and I found this tour very interesting, my brother is a retired engineer so he was fascinated with the tour but I think he enjoyed talking to the volunteers more than anything.

Great tour, especially for those connected to aviation or naval. 5 hours and didn't see it all. Great spokespeople who served on ship, learned alot. Reasonable food prices. Wouldn't recommend for young children.

Our trip was great. It is an experience we would do again. It was nice to go to on a short trip and the cost was sooo reasonable. I recommend the Midway to anyone who wants a day of learning and enjoyment. You won't regret your day. Go, Go, Go.

The USS Midway Museum was a lot of fun. It was very informative. The highlight was actually speaking to a gentleman that was on the USS Midway. His story was fascinating. My husband LOVED this museum. He even opted to go on one of the simulated flights. He thought that was amazing. For the money it was a great value!

I was planning to spend a couple of hour at the USS Midway but once there I completely lost track of time and spent almost five hours exploring the museum. That's how good it is... Another thing that surprised me is that I went there for the "machinery" but what really hooked me was the people. It was awesome to be guided and talk to people that served aboard an aircraft carrier. It's way much better to have someone who lived the real thing explaining it to you and sharing their experiences. This is something you can't miss when going to San Diego.

I'm not a Navy buff, but you really don’t need to be to enjoy a visit to the USS Midway. I was truly amazed by the way of life of the crew on board and the conditions of life at sea. I found the audio tour to be invaluable as it made the visit both educational and fun.

As a San Diego native, I’ve always known how important the Navy was to San Diego history. The visit to the Midway was an eye opening experience as you learn about the ship’s history and see all the incredible planes and jets. Make sure you save enough time for the limited bridge tour. It’s a tiny area and they only let a few people up at a time. Do not miss this part of the ship!
