Customizable Wine Country Tour from San Francisco

San Francisco, United States of America

Calling all lovers of fine wine! This day trip from San Francisco to the valleys of Napa and Sonoma allows you to be the guide for a day and help select the wineries visited on this customizable tour of California's renowned wine-growing region. Visit up to six boutique wineries depending on the choices of your small group and benefit from the freedom and flexibility only a customizable tour can provide.

You'll travel through picturesque countryside to discover some of California's favorite wines including Stags Leap, Rutherford, St. Helena and Glen Ellen, and enjoy a leisurely lunch stop at one of the wineries. All you need to bring is an appetite for fine wine and a list of suggestions for your guide on this go-with-the-flow, customizable wine country tour!

For lovers of great wine and beautiful scenery, this small group tour from San Francisco takes you to where America's most famous wine labels originate. Typically, your guide will take you to both Sonoma and Napa Valleys to visit boutique wineries not frequented by large group tours. Requests for favorite wineries will be considered subject to distance constraints, so you can help plan the trip!

Sample wines from famous grape-growing regions such as Oakville, Yountville, Los Carneros, Sonoma Valley and Kenwood and be entertained by your guide's illuminating commentary on the science and art of wine making in between stops. You also have the opportunity to enjoy a delicious gourmet lunch at one of the wineries at your leisure.

Returning to San Francisco after a fulfilling day of wine tasting, you have the option of ending your tour in the picture postcard village of Sausalito, where you can browse the shops before making your way back across San Francisco Bay on the ferry.

Crave maximum flexibility and choice on your visit to wine country? This tour is for you!

We had a small group of only four people so we were able to visit 5 wineries, as well as stop for lunch at a small restaurant. Our driver was very informative, with wonderful insights into the culture and history of both the wine country and the San Francisco Bay Area.

We had a great day with Dave, our tour guide and eight others in our group. Visited a real Ma and Pa down to the earth winery and also a couple of top end wineries. Lunch stop was in Sonoma where there was a good choice of restaurants and tasting rooms to visit. Continued visiting wineries after our mid day stop and ended our day in Sausalito where we explored on foot before catching the ferry back to San Fransisco. GREAT DAY!

Loved this tour. It's a nice enjoyable pace that lets you not just zoom thru and see the sites but really enjoy them. The guide was very helpfull in suggesting different wineries to meet pretty much everyone's tastes. Most definately recommed it.

I was disappointed with our guides reaction when we wanted to go to Robert Mondavi. He told us it cost $40 for tasting and that they are not very nice there to tours. After persisting from 5 of us, especially after going to Rombauer, which we did not enjoy, he took us to Mondavi. Well, the tasting is $20 and they were fabulous as were the wines. I found the bigger wineries were not a option with our guide as the smaller wineries gave him some kind of kickback...like the free bottle of wine he collected at Cline. Lunch we bought at Dean and Deluca and ate in a school yard! So, overall we enjoyed maybe 50% of the day. Also, he seemed surprised when mentioned the ferry ride home and deterred us from doing so. I also didn't like the 20% or more gratuity is appreciated sign posted in the van.

Flexible small group! Exactly what I was looking for, the guide took us to some good places and we were also able to make request if they were within reason. The small group and flexible schedule made this the perfect day trip.

Firstly: tour guide was hilarious. His name was Dave and he really made the trip great. Secondly: we had the liberty of choosing where we wanted to go as we were such a small group. None of us had anything in mind so Dave chose for us. Even though it was Easter Sunday and many wineries closed at 3PM we were able to make the most of it. We were able to drive through Sausalito on the way back and stop to take photos of the bridge. It was a truly great day.

Unfortunately this specific tour did not run on the date due to insufficient numbers. An alternative was provided to Muir Woods and Sonoma wineries which was very well conducted by the informative tour guide. The tasting at the last winery (of three) visited was rather rushed by the local staff. Many of the wines tasted were a bit one-dimensional and Californians should really take a few lessons in Port production from the Portuguese before labelling the contents of a bottle as "Port".

Very nice wine tour. Full van this time, but once we got to the first stop, everyone was happy! We did some interesting stops. Some just tastings, some interesting wineries, stopped in downtown Sonoma for lunch, visited one tasting room that included Olive Oil. Dropped us back at our hotel around 7 pm. Our tour guide was very informative about the area and sights. 5 stars for him. Overall a very interesting and pleasant trip.

Very good tour, which you could personalise if you wanted to focus on particular wineries in an area. We concentrated mainly on Sonoma and fitted in 5 visits, 3 which were free and those where we had to pay were at most $10. The guide was excellent and really knew his stuff. On our tour there were only 4 people so it was very personal with no big groups. A really enjoyable day and good value for money

Friendly, informative and fun! We went to a wide variety of different vinyards and the driver was open to suggestions of specific places we wanted to go to. There were only ten people in total on the tour so it was personal and everyone was really nice. We even stopped for photos of the Golden Gate Bridge on the way back.

Driverguide Ralph was friendly, relaxed and knowledgeable plus group of four ladies on our tour had really done their homework and helped to plan the route. Five wineries in one day but no real rush at any time and many really excellent wines.

Excellent tour and guide, espcially liked the fact that the group was small and the tour was relaxed and catered to the wishes of the group. Nice to be able to tour some botique wineries. A bit more money than some of the other tours advertised but well worth the extra cost. We were picked up right at our hotel and delivered back 9 hours later. Would definately reccommend this tour and will go again.

Our group had a great time on the wine lovers tour! We picked three wineries we were really interested in and the guide customized the day to fit those three wineries in, as well as one additional winery he suggested and time for a relaxing lunch in Sonoma. The guide was superb and we had a wonderful day tasting wine and not worrying about driving.

We had such a wonderful day out in Napa and Sonoma. Our tour guide took us to fantastic vineyards and some beautiful sights. We had our 16mo old with us and she was having so much fun at all the vineyards too. Everyone was so helpful. The wine was fantastic , the company was too. We ended up buying some wine and making new friends. We hope to visit again soon.

Our driver was great! Napa and Sonoma were beautiful! We visited 5 wineries. 3 of them before lunch. We should have eaten after the first 2 wineries. Lunch turned into a fiasco! We stopped at a strip mall deli, it took over an hour for us to get our food, then we had to drive to the next winery to eat. The tour would have been better if we could have had cheese and fruit at one of the wineries!

I've had better tours of Napa before. The tour guide was good but was under the weather, and we only got to see 4 wineries. If you are going to visit Napa, go for 2-3 days and stay out there.

It rained the entire day, which was OK. Our driver was a little scary and the van crowded. I didn't even get to sit next to my husband and it was our anniversary. The wineries were not the popular ones but beautiful. You did get to see the valley, and that was nice.

It was a rainy day, but I still loved it. Our tour guide was a right chatterbox with lots of useful tit bits of information. The wineries were a great selection. Being a Monday and a little rainy meant that we never had to queue or wait for our tasting, which was definitely a plus. Viator's markup over booking the tour was a bit steep, so it might be worth booking direct.

Perfect way to see Napa and Sonoma. There were only nine people total on tour--worth the extra money. Plus, they pick you up at your hotel.

We could not of had a better driver if we had hand picked him. Our small group was a lot of fun, the wineries were great except one wasn't so neat, the guy who ran it didn't seem to care if we were there or not. But the rest of the day was great.

Great tour. Hassle free. Friendly, knowledgeable and informative driver/guide. The restricted number of participants made the tour so much more enjoyable, being able to talk to the wine makers and taste their wares at leisure.
