Winchester Mystery House, Muir Woods and Sausalito Day Trip

San Francisco, United States of America

Travel across the Golden Gate Bridge to Muir Woods and the spooky Winchester Mystery House on a full-day excursion from San Francisco. You'll enjoy magnificent views of San Francisco Bay and the lush valleys where the coastal Miwok Indians once lived.

Your first stop on this enthralling day trip is the Bay Area's popular Muir Woods. Take the opportunity to roam through an ancient forest of giant redwood trees on your 75-minute visit of Muir Woods, the longest visit offered by any tour.

The tour then takes you to Sausalito, a quaint Mediterranean-style seaside village with quaint shops, art galleries and waterfront restaurants. You can stop for an hour in Sausalito, or extend your visit and return to San Francisco by ferry (ferry cost not included).

The final highlight is a visit to the Winchester Mystery House, home of the rifle heiress Sarah Winchester where many unexplained oddities have come to pass. For 38 years, until the day she died, Sarah Winchester kept carpenters working 24 hours a day, building non-stop. The house has an endlessly confusing floor plan, with doors and staircases leading nowhere.

You'll take a guided tour of the mysterious building, surrounded by beautiful gardens and containing several museums. Highlights include the largest Winchester rifle collection on the West Coast and the rare collection of antiques manufactured by the Winchester Products Company.

Winchester Mystery House is a must-go place! Muir Woods and Sausalito are nice but i still prefer Winchester Mystery House.

Muir Woods portion of tour was wonderful. An amazing national treasure that all should see! The Sausalito hour visit was not worth the hour. That hour would have been better spent in Muir Woods.

It was nice to be driven there but there was definitley not enough time at any of the stops.. Would suggest cutting out Sausalito and just make it Winchester House and Muir woods

Check beforehand about numbers for the winchester house - we were disappointed on the morning when told it was not running - luckily some other people signed up on the day. Do this to avoid disappointment. Muir Woods was amazing could probably do with a bit more time there and less at Sausalito but was good our bus driver was informative and on time.

We were very disappointed that our Winchester House tour was cancelled because they said they needed at least 8 people to make the trip and only 4 had signed up. It would have been nice to know that in advance. Muir Woods was wonderful. We were not able to spend more than 1 hour in Sausalito, so that also was disappointing.

Just fine, except for the young college students, who were talking, while the tour guide was explaining things and wouldn't shut up. Plus one ended up puking on the bus.

Overall we had an enjoyable trip. Muir Woods gave us a feel for the California forests and a break from the city. If I were to make a suggestion though, I would skip the Sausalito part of the trip all together because you really only have time for about an hour and it doesn't give ample time to take in the town, this was disappointing. The driver/guide for this portion of the trip was fantastic. The Winchester Mystery House is definitely worth the drive to San Jose. The house is crazy and beautiful all at the same time. The driver/guide for this portion of the trip was way too talkative rambling on about facts that no one cared about. He literally didn't stop talking for the whole drive.

Great day at all locations. Like more time but you cannot do everything at once. Winchester House was very interesting. Be mindful that if you have disabilities forget it.

TERRIBLE..I WOULD NEVER HAD SIGNED UP FOR THIS TOUR IF I NEW WE WOULD BE ON A BUS FOR HOURS..NOT WORTH THE RIDE AND I ONLY SIGNED UP FOR THIS TOUR BECAUSE IT CLEARLY STATED THAT IT SPENT THE MOST TIME AT MUIR WOODS..1HOUR AT MUIR WOODS WAS A DISGRACE WE WERE RUSHED THERE AND OUT SO QUICK I AM SURPRISED WE EVEN GOT TO SEE ANY REDWOOD TREES..I WOULD NOT RECOMEND THIS TRIP AND WAS VERY DISSATISFIED

Trip was wonderful! Muir Woods was beautiful and peaceful. Sausalito was a really artistic, quiest town. The food was great. Would have liked more time. Winchester Mystery House was incredible!!! We thought 2 hrs. seemed like a long time but after arriving could have used another hour or two. We want to go back and do the behind the scenes tour now. Really fascinating!!! All 3 places were worth the trip. Would recommend to everyone! Can't wait to return!!!!!!

Muir Woods and Sausalito were excellent... a must!! But the coach was a little uncomfortable and cramped. The 2nd tour (they are both half day tours!) was in the same cramped coach and about 1 hours+ away and though the house was interesting it didn't warrent the time spent getting there and back!

We 2, and our 18 yr old daughter, thought the Winchester house was the best w/our great guide Amanda. We had to locate the rifle collection ourselves after the house tour. We were allowed an hour and enjoyed a serene walk thru Muir Woods, which is a lovely park just outside the city. Nice, though quick, lunch at a restaurant on the water in Sausalito. Had a great driver/tour guide, but, sorry, the area wasn't discovered by Europeans if Native Americans were already living there._br/_ Be aware hotel pickup takes you to a central facility, and also again before the Winchester tour.

We had a great time and we didn't rent a car the entire time we were in San Francisco. With the rates to park your car, this was a great alternative... and no getting lost. The Winchester House was awesome!

The Muir Woods and Sausalito were great and the tour guide was friendly, funny, and full of random information._br/_ The Winchester Mystery House itself was not as great as the hype that surrounds it, and it was not worth the 1hr+ drive each way for the 60 minute tour.

We were disappointed with this. We confirmed the day before by telephone and were not told that the Winchester Mystery House tour part may be cancelled as there was not enough people. We arrived early the next day and were told to go to Muir woods and that when we returned we would be told if the Winchester Mystery house tour would be going ahead. We then got refunded the difference (which was very little). We only wanted to see the Winchester Mystery House, and would have cancelled going to the woods if we had known the tour numbers were short (rather than being told it was all fine when we called to confirm). They were also unhelpful when we expressed our disappointment, and tried to explain we would have opted out of the morning. I would not tour with this company again.

This is not a day trip. This is two half day trips, where you return to base, wait for an hour and then do the second half. Winchester Mystery House, just a quirky house, nothing too exciting. Muir Woods was great, but an hour to explore is not enough. Same as Sausilito. Need more time!!!! Spent most of the day travelling to the locations and not enough time at the location to enjoy.

The trip was good. I didn't realize we would go to Muir Woods and Sausalito then back to San Francisco. From there take the trip to Winchester House. That was ok. The drivers(we had two) were great, very interesting and up on their history. I would do it again.

I LOVED THE PLACES I WENT BUT THE DRIVER WHILE INFORMATIVE AND HELPFUL DROVE SO FAST AND HIT SO MANY BUMPS THAT BOUNCED US COMPLETELY OUT OF OUR SEATS MADE US VERY UNCOMFORTABLE AND IN FEAR OF INJURY. THE REST WAS FINE BUT I AGREE THAT THE EXTRA BUS TRIP TO WINCHESTER HOUSE SHOULD BE EXPLAINED BETTER OR PERHAPS MAKE IT A SEPERATE TOUR AND ALLOW FOR MORE TIME THERE WHICH WE COULD HAVE USED AND WOULD HAVE APPRECIATED.

THe trip to Muir Woods and Sausalito was excellent, however it is not all one trip as we had to change coaches and wait for one hour to go to Winchester House. The house was very good, only time there was limited so we did not have time to look around the outside of the house or to visit the gift shop

I enjoyed the trip, I appreciate the efficiency in being picked up from the hotel. As Sausalito was one of the destinations, I think that ONE hour from the moment we got off the bus till we had to be back was not at all enough. I suggest that the driverguide should NOT drive so fast while on the Golden Gate Bridge, as crossing it is an experience in itself, not to mention that for some people on board the bus its an once in a lifetime experience.

Perfect hotel pick up and return...wonderful, happy staff in the office and the drivers were very informative and funny!!! Muir Woods was nice and the time spent was perfect! Sausalito also. But we had to go back to the main office and get on another bus to go to the Winchester tour, that was a surprise for us. All in all, it was a wonderful experience and the company did more than we ever expected! Super Sightseeing is the best around. We use them everytime we go to SFO!

Enjoyed our day although you need to be aware that it is actually 2 seperate tours and you wait in between. We did Muir Woods and Sausilito in the morning and then Winchester mansion in the afternoon. The guides were helpful and knowledgeable.

Great tour. Muir Woods are breath-taking, though Sausalito is a total waste of time. Don't bother going there, there is nothing to see, nothing to do except have lunch and shop. There is then an hour wait back at Fisherman's Wharf as Winchester Mystery House is actually a totally separate tour but definately it was the highlight of the day. Loved it!!!

Awesome time! The Muir woods were beautiful and relaxing. The Winchester Mystery House a must see! Not enough time in Sausalito but we could have stayed there and caught a ride back to the city if we chose to. Great experience for the price.

Our morning tour guide to Muir Woods was very personable and helpful and kept us entertained on the ride. Muir Woods was beautiful. The stop on the tour is just not long enough to fully enjoy all there is to see. Our second tour guide for the mystery house was nice, but had such a long list of "rules" - it seemed a bit much for a group of adults. My only complaint is it would have been helpful to know that the Mystery house was a seperate trip that left from the San Francisco office (90 minuntes after our return from Sausalito). Had we known, or been able to book them seperately we would have preferred to spend more time in Sausalito and then enjoy the Mystery House on another day of our trip.

The Winchester Mystery House tour was appalling, the girl was shouting like we were on boot camp. I know that's not your fault but spoilt what should have been a great tour.

We really enojyed the trip but felt since there was only 50 minutes allowed in Sausalito it would have been better to have more time in Muir Woods, only had one hour, and skip Sausalito altogether or have this offered as a separate trip. Muir Woods and Winchester Mystery House are definitely worth the trip!

Muir Woods is a must see! Don't skip this trip, put it on the list! Don't do Sausalito unless you have a half to a full day to spend there, otherwise the trip does not do it justice. Winchester takes a half day to see, and it's a long trip to San Jose. If you like the History Channel, you will like this house because it is full of history and interesting facts.
