Full Day Tour to Vigo, Baiona and Valenca do Minho

Santiago de Compostela, Spain

Explore the Galicia region and a famous Portuguese fortress city on a day trip from Santiago de Compostela. This fully guided tour includes a three-course lunch, along with transport from selected Santiago de Compostela hotels.

Traveling south, you will first visit Vigo, the largest city in Galicia and the region's most important fishing port. Here you will visit Castrelos Park and the tranquil gardens of the Palace Quinones of Leon.

The tour continues to Baiona, the oldest port in Galicia, where you will see a replica of Columbus' caravel La Pinta. Baiona was the first place in Europe to learn of the discovery of the Americas.

You will then cross the border into Portugal to arrive to Valenca do Minho, an 18th-century fortress city in the country's north. One of Portugal's most popular attractions, you'll visit the city's fortress bulwark to admire impressive views over the Mino River.

Enjoy free time to wander through the city's narrow streets with shops offering all kinds of typical Portuguese products including pottery, lingerie, wine and gold, before heading back to Santiago de Compostela.

This was a relaxing tour and a knowledgeable and caring tour guide. The scenery was stunning and we were given sufficient time at each stop for sightseeing. When my brother failed to return to the bus at the departure time the last city we visited the one in Portugal the tour guide went looking for him and found him. I had gone ahead and was already in the bus. My brother had become confused on his return to the bus from a gift shop and was wandering inside the main city wall not knowing if he was inside or outside the wall . The tour guide held the bus for 20 minutes until my brother was found. Had she not held the bus, I would have deboarded and looked for my brother. Neither of us speak Portuguese or Spanish. We were from the US, visiting Santiago de Compostella for a few days. . It would have been a frightening experience for both of us, but thanks to our tour guide, we returned to Santiago with the Viator tour bus.

The tour was well organized and the tour guide was very knowledgeable and pleasant. Everything was well planned out. I wish we had more time at each stop but it's understandable since there is so much to see in the allotted time. Very happy my family and I went on this tour.

This was a splendid day out, and included (not mentioned in itinerary) a visit to a hilltop Celtic village and Mount Tecla, spectacularly overlooking the mouth of the River Minho. It is a long day, so make sure you have a relaxing morning to follow. Lunch was taken in Portugal and very good, consisting of soup, a baked cod dish topped with beautiful crisp potatoes, a dessert, coffee, water and plenty of wine. There is a little bit of walking to do, and some hilly bits and steps, so may not suite a person of lesser mobility. Scenery was magnificent on the perfectly sunny day I was lucky to have. I was the only English speaking individual on a bus full of Spanish speaking people, who were nice polite folk. One or two had some words of English, so I enjoyed their company at the table for lunch.
