Santiago City Sightseeing Tour

Santiago, Chile

See the very best of Santiago on a comprehensive introductory tour of Chile's capital city. Perfect for first-time visitors, this morning or afternoon 3.5-hour city tour is a well-rounded introduction to Santiago's famous sights, leaving you with time in the day free to explore the city on your own.

Your group tour takes you through the main streets of Santiago's civic center with its many different architectural styles. You'll pass the neoclassical Moneda Palace, built in the 18th century and current seat of Government; the Plaza de Armas, or main square, with its cathedral; the Museum of National History; and the Central Post Office.

Your tour continues to the Parque Forestal, based on Paris' Champs-Elysees and Santa Lucia Hill, where the city of Santiago was founded in 1541. You'll continue to the bohemian area of Bellavista and climb the Saint Lucia hill for a panoramic view of Santiago with the Andes mountains in the background.

Your tour concludes with a visit to the handicraft village of Los Graneros del Alba. This attraction is closed on Mondays, when an alternative attraction is substituted.

We did the 1/2 day walking tour of Santiago. Guide collected us from hotel in minibus and we travelled to centre then left the bus and driver. There were 2 other couples (1 American and 1 Spanish). We 'did' all the main touristy sites It was fabulous. Our guide was excellent, informative, interesting and funny! Only downside was when we'd completed the tour, we were all taken to a 'shop' to look at souvenirs. No-one from our group bought anything. Otherwise, the trip was excellent value for money and we'd use Viatour again.

Jorge was very informative and gave us a good personal insight into a number of aspects of Chilean society in addition to showing us the important places.

Santiago is a bustling modern city, so half a day seems about enough to cover the main scenic bits, especially if you're pushed for time. This tour covers a limited selection of sights well and quickly.

We flew into Santiago and were jet lagged, but this tour helped keep us awake. The tour guide was on time and informative. We drove through all of Santiago and then we were able to get around on our own since we knew the areas and what to do in each one.

Trip ws booked for ( am but nobody arrived to pick me up. Upon riinging was told they changed it to 3pm. I was not informed of the time change. A fellow turn up and took us on tour but didn't take us up San Cristóbal hill. When we stated that was part of our tour he said 'Ring and complain'. I had to pay for 2 people when there only one of me.

Patricia did a super job. There were only 4 of us on the tour which was great. She was extremely knowlegable about the sights and the history of Chile and Santiago. We enjoyed the changing of the guards and the market, cathederal etc. We felt she covered everything very well. She had a good sense of humor and was very personable.

Great value for the money as we were only 2 people in a new 12 seater van. Knowledgeable guide who spoke very good English. Pick up from hotel was on time. We could have skipped the jewelery shop and had an earlier "banos" break but that probably helps keep the cost of the tour down a bit anyway.

Viator made it very easy to book our tour. Rodrigo was a very engaging tour guide. The trip around Santiago gave us a better feel for the overall city (which helped being newcomers) and some go-to places. Rodrigo spoke a lot to us about the history of the country as well as local history, and we made some very nice stops around the city at various places, to walk around and see sites, shop, have lunch, etc. Overall we would recommend this tour.

We had only 3 days in Santiago. We took he city tour on our first day and it was very helpful to optimize the rest of our stay in Santiago as it gave a very good overview. Our guide was very knowledgeable and her comments informative. It was a great introduction to the city, its history and its people.

We ended up doing tour by ourselves as no-one else was on it. We got driven around in a mini-van and thought we would get more opportunities to get out and see the sights but only got out of the van once at St Lucia. It was a good way to see sights and understand them if only from the van.

Our guide and driver were very helpful. The guide was extremely competent with explanations for both a Spanish and English combined group. The education we received about Santiago city was very interesting and down to earth. She was easy to get along with and responded to all of our questions. We had a great time with the guide.

Good overview tour with a friendly and informative guide. Well-priced and, very importantly, the guide appeared on time -- quite in contrast to other tours we had arranged in Latin American countries.

Although we booked an English speaking tour, one of the people they put with us only spoke Spanish so our guide had to say everything in both languages. She seemed to have her "script" memorized and had trouble answering some of our questions. We were surprised to be taken to an expensive shop where they tried to sell us jewelry. We were also surprised to be taken to a restaurant for lunch which was not included in the fee and which wasn't one we would have chosen. Although the tour was to have lasted only 3 1/2 hours, it actually took 7 hours. It did give us a good overview of the city and let us see things we wouldn't have found on our own so it was worth doing.

The tour guide and driver did a really good job, however, the vehicle used was not suitable for this tour, the windows were too low, therefore, you could not see anything on either side of the road. This made it difficult to follow what the tour guide was describing.

We were disappointed with the vehicle used, as it was uncomfortable and the windows were too low for very good sightseeing...the guide was very good, but the tour ended at a private jewelery shop, which was too typical on these types of tours.

A lot of history and gov't with little emphasis on buildings or gardens. The van goes too fast to take any pictures.

Review by: Gerhard P February 2009
We were quite disappointed. Firstly the transport used was really old and uncomfortable, and secondly the tour guide dropped us back at our hotel at 11am instead of 1pm as was scheduled. His excuse was that the museums were closed on Mondays and he had nothing further to show us.

Much to see and do. Guide was lovely but did not speak English well. Pro I had booked a group tour, but was the only guest, so it became a private tour. Comfortable van with AC. Saw much of the city.

Great tour, I recommend. Just watch out for the semi-precious stones store they take you that has airport prices. You will be able to find similar products around town cheaper, such as in the Los Dominicos market. But overall, it was really good and worth doing. I recommend.

This tour was good, when we finally got it. However, arrangements were terrible. We had booked a private tour and had a letter confirming the departure time waiting for us at our hotel. The guide was forty five minutes late, and we found there was already another couple on board. Both couples were surprised that this tour had been doubled up. Surely "private" means "private". We had stressed that we needed to be back at our hotel by 6:45 p.m. at the latest, but were not returned until 7:20, which spoiled our subsequent arrangements. The minibus we were in was not suitable for sightseeing, as the roof was very low and we could only see pavements and up to head height; there was no view of buildings unless we got out.

Chose the private tour option and had an excellent driver and guide who were very punctual. The guide's English was excellent, he was very informative and flexible with the itinerary. We walked a lot of the time through the city centre at a leisurely pace and the driver would meet us at suitable point whenever necessary.
