Cordoba Day Trip from Seville

Seville, Spain

Prepare to be amazed on this day trip to Cordoba from Seville! Cordoba is a captivating Andalucian city with many attractive monuments, including its Alcazar fort and gardens, mosque, cathedral, synagogue and Jewish quarter. You'll discover a beautiful network of streets, alleys, squares and whitewashed courtyards, reflecting the importance of Cordoba in the medieval period.

A highlight of your tour of Cordoba is a visit to the Catholic cathedral, converted from a mosque when the Christians conquered Cordoba in 1236. With nearly 1,000 pillars, the cathedral's original Gothic architecture is combined with Baroque and Renaissance elements. You'll see the remarkable Cardinal's Chapel and its treasures, including an ivory crucifix and important sculptures and paintings.

Next, you'll visit the old Jewish quarter, stepping back in time to the era of the Romans and Goths. You will see one of the few synagogues existing today in Spain, built in 1315, as well as many important monuments to Cordoba's most important sons, including the Roman philosopher Seneca, Arabian philosopher Averroes and the Jewish philosopher Maimonides.

The trip was excellent. I toured the Alhambra the day before and would recommend Cordoba over the Alhambra if you have to make a choice. Our guide was outstanding. She managed the time of all the tour group flawlessly - first doing the tour in English, then dismissing us to go walk about while she gathered the Spanish crew and repeated the material. No time wasted and always with enthusiasm. Unlike many guides she was happy to take questions and knew more than the talking points. The Mosque/Cathedral is amazing. I knew nothing about the history of the city before going and was completely amazed. The cathedral is unique and every bit as impressive as St. Peter's or Notre Dame. Take the tour.

Overall, a good trip. Wished we had more time. The guide was very imformative, but almost too friendly...there were some spanish speaking people who were not on our tour that were constantly bugging our guide...she spent a great deal of time speaking with these people. Got so annoying that my wife and I left the guide with about 30 minutes left to go and explore on our own before the trip was over. Still, it was a good trip.

We enjoyed the trip a great deal. The pick up location was easy to find. The schedule was followed as designed. Our guide was very good, knowledgeable, and impressive in her ability to speak several languages for those on the tour. This was a great day trip from Seville and easy as you don't have to deal with the train, or driving or another hotel room. The Mezquita is fabulous and one of the most impressive things we saw in Spain, definitely worth the trip.

A tremendously interesting and beautiful tour. Our tour guide in Cordoba, Terry, was entertaining and knowlegable about the history and architecture of the city. The group was small (6 total) unlike some of the other tour groups we encountered making the tour relaxed and made asking questions of our guide extremely easy. I would highly recommend This tour to anyone visiting Seville. If you do go, ask for Terry. He was the best tour guide we have ever encountered.

Our tour guide, Maria, was fabulous! She is a very knowledgeable and personable guide. A native of Cordoba, she helped me get a good sense of the history and culture of the city. I would strongly recommend this tour to anyone who wants a thoughtful and thorough briefing.

By far THE worst day trip I have EVER taken in my life. Who ever Viator subcontracted is THE WORST company. The tour guide moved so quickly that I got lost. I called the tour company, they said they would send someone to get me, I waited 2 hours, called back, they said that someone came (which they did not, since I didn't move), then they said they would have tickets waiting for me at the mosque. When I went to the mosque, I wasn't allowed in since there were no tickets as promised and since I wasn't with a group. I do_not recommend this trip, especially for the price. Take the train and go to Cordoba alone.

Going to Cordoba was one of the highlights of my trip to Spain / Portugal. After a 1.5 hour bus ride, we arrived at Cordoba and did a guided tour of the Mosque, city streets and Jewish Quarter with an excellent, knowledgeable guide. The Mosque was fascinating and the city of Cordoba is beautiful and fun to explore. After the tour we had 3 hours of free time for shopping and a late lunch before heading back to Seville. This tour is a good value for a fun day in Cordoba and you won't be disappointed!!

I loved Cordoba mostly because Terry (spelling?) our guide was awesome! Extremely knowledge and adorable accent : ) Totally worth the day trip. Only complaint would be the local Seville "guide" - I use the term guide very loosely. He didn't give any guidance/insight on anything on the ride (he took naps) and he waited for a 5 people makings us about 45 minutes late. If people don't make it to the pick up within 15 minutes (and that is being generous) the tour should leave. Disorganized.

Excellent trip. Our tour guide was great and extremely knowledgeable. I would have rated it 5 stars except I took away a star for not allowing enough time for us to visit Cordoba's other sites on our own or even do some shopping. But I would recommend this tour as the best way to view the top-rated sites, especially the Mezquita.

Cordoba is a nice place to visit... i would recommend that you should not miss out on visiting Cordoba whenever you are in Spain._br/_ However, i was not happy with the way the trip was conducted._br/_ It took triple the time to see the sites because our group consisted of English speaking, French and Spanish. This meant that our guide had to translate everything in 3 languages. This lead to a lot of standing around and waiting for the guide to finish translating the other languages. As a result of all this standing around and waiting for the guide the trip was very tiring and took an extra 3 hours to complete. Also the bus was old. We could not wait to get back to the hotel.

The hotel pick-up was very good, as well as the bus ride and drop-off. Our tour guide was excellent, and extremely knowledgeable about Cordoba and the area. This was a very nice day trip and had everything promised. The only possible negative was I thought the price was a little high.

Cordoba is a spectacular place!. We took our tour on Dec 23rd, 2010. It was just my family and another couple in a cozy van. The tour of the Mezquita was awesome! The guide was very informative. She also took us to the Alcazar, Jewish synagogue, medina and jewish quarters. The only thing that would make this tour better is more time in Cordoba to wander in the maze of streets. Highly recommend tis tour.

The excellent guide had to do 3 languages and it took a lot of time. The trip would have been fine without all the standing around while the poor woman translated everything into English and French after the Spanish

Fantastic, very informative. Our guide really new her stuff and provided an excellent tour. We were given a little more extra time at the end which allowed us to enjoy Cordoba rather than being rushed from one place to another. The mezquita was amazing to say the least... I absolutely recommend.

As noted in my review of the Granada tour, the bus is old and rough but the driver is good. The Seville representative, Alicia, was pretty much a downer, just doing the absolute minimum and not being welcoming or particularly helpful. She spent the whole time on the bus telling the driver (I speak Spanish) in great detail how much she hates her life; when we got back to Seville, I gave the bus driver a 10 euro tip because I felt so sorry for him for having to listen to her! The Mesquita is fascinating, as is the synagogue on a smaller scale, so the trip is worthwhile just for what you get to visit. However, the local guide, Nani, was almost catastrophically bad. Her English was extremely weak, both in terms of pronunciation and vocabulary, and at time was simply impossible to understand. She several times lost her train of thought or repeated herself at length. In many cases, if I understood properly, her facts were just plain wrong. She said that all guides in Cordoba had to undergo some sort of sensitivity training, but some of her comments appeared to be very ignorantly prejudiced against both Muslims and Jews. Three of the couples on the tour were Jewish, and I was terrified a couple of times that Nani had offended them deeply, but when I checked it turned out they hadn't been able to understand her. Even on Christian stuff she was shaky/weird. In the Treasury of the Mosque Cathedral, when we were looking at the immense gold monstrance, Nani explained communion to us; this is, I am not kidding, word for word: "Jesus died and went to Heaven but every day he comes back down in the shape of a loaf of bread."

Good tour, but sites limited in Granada - the church is amazing. The day we went in September was over 43 degrees and stifling so that may have influence my opinion!

I thought the guide was excellent. As others mentioned, it was a little annoying having to wait for the guide to give the explanation of a site in Spanish before English. This of course was something the Spanish speaking travelers had also to endure. Did this detract from the tour Not really because it gave us some time to look at the site before the explanation.

Cordoba was our favorite city to visit throughout our 10 day driving tour in Portugal and Spain. We were awestruck with the architectural wonders in the city that had survived from the 8th century and were in excellent condition. Our tour guide was knowledgeable, personable and extremely patient. We enjoyed our visit immensely and would recommend it highly!

Travelled from Seville to Cordoba and experienced the changing landscape that is Andalucia. Felt a bit like Don Quixote as he set out on his adventures.
