Best of Shanghai Day Tour including Jade Buddha Temple and The Bund

Shanghai, China

See all the main sites of Shanghai, 'Paris of the Orient'. Your fully guided coach tour includes lunch as well as entry into the Jade Buddha Temple, Shanghai Museum, Bund and Bund History Museum, Yuyuan Garden, Shanghai Old Street, Fresh Water Pearl Gallery, a silk factory and Xin Tian Di, Shanghai's entertainment district.

Your tour begins with Jade Buddha Temple. Built during the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty (A.D. 1875-1909), it contains a priceless collection of jade statues from Burma. The temple is constructed in the magnificent architectural style of the Song Dynasty. Currently the temple houses the Shanghai Buddhist Institute.

Next stop is Fresh Water Pearl Gallery. You'll see the process of pearl cultivation and you may be the lucky participant to be presented with a single pearl.

People Square, in the heart of the city is a vast green area surrounded by great buildings on all sides. Here you have the opportunity to feed the doves to pray for the world peace.Shanghai Museum is a highlight of the tour. The museum design is in keeping with Feng Shui principles. It houses a great permanent collection and hosts various exhibitions with over 120,000 pieces thst showcase the 5000 years of China's history. We recommend you rent an audio phone (USD 5) to make the most of your 1.5 hours' visit.

After lunch, visit the enchanting Yuyuan Garden and Shanghai Old Street. The garden includes many halls, springs and other buildings of interest. The visit brings you back to Ming Dynasty (A.D. 1368-1644).

Continue to the Bund on Shanghai's waterfront. The Bund is Shanghai's most famous landmark and a symbol of old and new Shanghai. Four kilometers long, it has long been one of the most important areas of Shanghai. In the 1930s, the Bund was host to the city's financial and commercial centers.

At the silk factory, see how Chinese silk has been produced since the 14th century. There is also the option to to purchase the silk at low prices. After a drive along the former French Concession District, characterized by beautiful, tree-lined streets wander through Shanghai's hottest new entertainment district, Xin Tian Di. The brick buildings on these two-square blocks have been preserved and transformed into trendy clubs, restaurants and boutiques.

Excellent tour. With foreign tourists down over 80% since 2008, this tour through Viator was like a private tour for 6 + driver + English speaking guide. Guide was very informative and knowledgeable. With just 6 of us in the tour, we could ask a lot of questions to learn more of the city and culture. Lunch was excellent with lots to eat.

Viator...best company to book with from overseas, best local land operator in Shanghai, one of the best local tour guides I've ever had in China or around the world for that matter. However, spending time in three government stores so we can spend our tourist monies is not my idea of sightseeing in Shanghai. One hour at the Shanghai museum is not acceptable when you spend three hours in a Jade, Pearl and Handicraft store. Really???

Very good to enable the first time visitor to see the popular sights of central Shanghai - I would not recommend a sunday trip, it is extremely busy, and does not give enough time to view things properly. A wonderful Old city.

This was the most disappointing of my tours in China - I was the only one on the tour which had its advantages but I felt the disadvantages more. The guide Joe was ok - he gave the bare minimum information and was not as informative as Jackie in Beijing. In many places when I asked for more time at a certain place, I was left on my own but I noticed many other guides walking around with tourists and giving lots of information (at the Bund, Old Town and Museum). I dont know if this was not included in the agenda but should be as the guide is there with us anyways. We also went to a pearl factory and jade shop and I really felt pressured to buy and felt this was more a shopping excursion than a sightseeing trip. Again this was shorter than stated (started at 9 AM and I was back at the hotel by 3:30 PM - Joe had offered that I take another 15 mins more at the Old Town but even with that it would have been less than 7 hours).

Lots to see but tour guide (Joe) was a little obsessed with young girls._br/_ When all the girls were dropped off he fell asleep before we got back to our hotel._br/_ Could have spent longer at sites and less time at shops too.

The historical and educational sites were really good such as the Shanghai Museum, Yu Gardens and Jade Buddha Temple but a lot of time was spent on the "tourist" shopping sites (Pearl, Jade and Silk) instead of allowing us to roam around Old Shanghai Street to shop like the locals. We felt like our tour guide was also trying to pressure us to book another tour which we felt was rather pushy.

We took this tour on Nov. 05,2010. This was a very nice tour and in my opinion the only one of all the tours that we have taken in Shanghai that is really worth it. We got to see everything that we expected to see and the pace was good, considering all that we had to cover that day.

I really enjoyed this tour. Especially the old-city and the yu-garden. The Jade Buddha Tempel is magnificent. The kasmier-shop I didn't like, instead I would have liked to spent more time with the tea ceremony. The tour takes you across the city, and our tourguide Helen knew so much about her city. If you don't feel like exploring the city on your own, this is the tour you should book.

It was an amazing experience. Since nobody else booked this tour, I was there alone and really had a wonderful time. The guide speaks English very well. I didn't want to have a Chinese lunch because I wasn't feel well, so she proposed me to buy me some fruits. After that she took me to a tea house for free, although this was not included in the price. I really recommend tour.

guide once again was great, brilliant command of English, only thing was we felt a little rushed from one place to the next. jade buddha temple is amazing, fantastic sites to see. lunch was great, good food in a clean restaurant. we visited a silk factory which was interesting to see how silk is made and there's tons of things to buy. the weather wasn't great on our trip so we had to cut short the walk through the xintandi area and i wished we'd had gone lower down on the bund and seen the historic buildings versus focusing on the waterfront. but great day trip to see a lot of key sights and find your bearings for the next day.

My guide was very sweet and pleasant and she spoke excellent English. She was not, however, that well versed in the history or significance of the places we visited, so could take me to places but not really tell me about them, and I would have appreciated more in depth information as I someone who is interested in history. As a way of seeing the main attractions in the city in a short amount of time, and getting a couple of shopping stops (pearls and silk) thrown in, however it was just what was needed!

Joe was an outstanding guide for this day-long adventure -- and did a wonderful job of sharing the culture, the history and the perspective on modern Shanghai life as we visited the museum, temple, tea-house and a few shopping stops. Plus lunch was quite tasty and the entertainment a nice bonus. A must-do tour!

Having such a short period of time in Shanghai, this tour was so helpful in getting the most out of my time. The guide was great and spoke wonderful English. It was invaluable to have someone organize our tour, especially when there was a thunderstorm in the middle of the afternoon. The lunch was included and was not very good but the rest of the tour made up for it.

Our tour guide Burney was great. His english was impecable. He gave us alot of recommendations. As with my other 2 experiences with Viator in China, we had 2 unannounced Pearl factory and Jade factory shopping stops. The sights were great. The Shanghai Museum was a pleasant surprise. Once again, lunch was mediocre. There is so much great food in China, its disappointing that the tours take you to these restaurants that offer a sub par menu. I would recommend this trip if you have a short time to sightsee in Shanghai. Bring your own lunch or snacks.

As usual, Viator delivers the best city tours using very good tour operators. Our tour guide was really exceptional! He spoke very good English, was knowledgeable about the places we visited, and made the effort to make us feel special. He is just one very good tour guide! Afterwards, he gave us his business card and offered to help us just in case we needed anything in Shanghai. People like him give the tourism industry a very good name!
