Changi WWII War Trail and Museum Tour

Singapore, Singapore

This is the gripping tale of brave men and women who fought and were interned during the Japanese Occupation in World War II. This motorcoach tour takes you to Changi Museum, Johore Battery, Selarang Barracks and Changi Village and Beach. Now an idyllic seaside spot, Changi was once witness to countless atrocities committed in several prisoner-of-war camps.

Once the site of many prisoner-of-war camps during the Japanese Occupation, Changi has since gone down in history as a place of much pain, torture and human suffering. It is said that more Australian PoWs perished under incarceration than in battle itself. Whether it is on the Death Railway or the countless labour camps in Japan and Formosa (Taiwan), the Changi WWII trail commemorates the fight of brave men and women during battle and in internment. Hear their story.

Join the guides who are experts in Singapore's rich heritage and colorful history. Highlights on this tour include The Changi Museum, Johore Battery (replica of WWII 15-inch gun battery), outside Selarang Barracks, Changi Village and Changi Beach (site of Sook Ching Massacre).

I recommend this trip to anyone that has an interest WW2 history. It was great to actually go where history was made. The museum was well set out and all the exhibits were easy to follow. Finally our guide Helena made this trip with her bubbly personality and knowledge of the history of the war in Singapore

tour was interesting and good but a little too much talking by guide so not enough time to look at things in the museum on your own

Sadly the Changi Chapel is no longer but there is a faithfull replica to visit, the strong emotions experienced by those fortunate to visit the original Chapel cannot be reproduced at the replica. It is sad that some custodians of history do not know what they are custodians of.
Review: 2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better

Well worth doing and the tour guide we had had a very good grasp of her history facts. It is a shame some of the things you see are not the originals but all the same a good tour.

We really enjoyed this tour. It was informative and well balanced (between the sites). I'm not sure it is worthwhile going to the replica gun (particularly given what the restaurateur has done in terms of covering it up). Perhaps you could consider leaving this out and giving your tour group 20-30 minutes to themselves in the museum to read the panels and do some self-discovery?

Tour was interesting, but the guide did far too much talking (like an overload of information, which was unnecessary). This meant we did not have sufficient time to view the wonderful exhibition at the museum.

The guide was very knowledgeable but the microphone was not working on the bus and my husband is a little hard of hearing so he missed most of the commentary. The chapel and museum were very good but I thought the tunnel and 15 inch gun stop was a complete waste of time with very little there to see. More time spent at the massacre site at Changi Village would have been better for us. The tour was running late by the time we got to Changi Village so our time was limited. Overall it was very interesting but I do think a war cemetery or the like should be included.

A truly moving and inspiring tour, our guide Julie was not only very knowledgeable of the history of this sad period of the WW2, but she was passionate in her commentary, which she did in such a balanced way, we believed we truly understood what the men and women of the time endured. We highly recommend this tour; it was certainly the highlight of our holiday to Singapore.

This was a very well conducted tour. The tour guide was excellent - her commentary and passion for what she did made the tour both memorableand meaningful. As the daughter of a former Australian POW who spent time in Changi, the Burma-Thailand Railway and in Japan I would recommend that all Australians discover this part of their history. The trip to Changi, despite the horrors and all that happened to the POW's was inspiring and challenging.

A most informative and moving tour. We now understand the ordeals that the prisoners had to endure to just stay alive. The tour leader was most informative with extra snippets of information that clearly painted the picture of the reality of the situation at that time.

Well presented. Interesting. Full of history. It's hard to imagine what those people went through, and reinforces why we never want another war. Very moving.
