Take the Singapore Peranakan Trail with food tasting tour and look into the history and lifestyle of the Peranakan people through an exhibition of their finest clothes, jewelry, furniture, customs and festivals. View traditional Peranakan shophouses dating back to the early 1920's, and area that still draws people for the delicious local food.

Take a colorful journey into the history, lifestyle and unique character of the Peranakan people in Singapore. Walk through a spice garden - the original site of the first Botanic Gardens.

See rows of colorful traditional Peranakan shophouses dating back to 1920s and 1930s amidst an area that draws people from around the island for delicious local food. Stop for a Peranakan beading demonstration followed by tea and sampling of some Nonya delicacies.

There wasn't much food tasting on this tour, which was the bit I was most looking forward to - Last 30 minutes of it was the food tasting. We did have a very knowledgeable and exciting guide that explained some very interesting facts about the Peranakan culture and guided us through the amazing Peranakan Museum.

I am very pleased with the tour. Spice garden was interesting, got some taste of the spice road trade. Pranacan butique was rustic and nice, I tried traditional Pranacan dress. Bead work and embroidary was lovingly done and really colorful. I stayed after the rest of the group set back to the hotel and I bought a hand-painted cotton sarong. They tailored the fabric into wrap skirt on the spot.

This was an excellent tour! We were shown the highlights at the Spice Garden and the Peranakan Museum and given insight that wasn't on any of the plaques. I was able to make a pork-rice dumpling with some assistance and then to eat a cooked one. The food was good and something I would not have tried on my own, but would love to try again! We learned about the Peranakan bead work and saw samples, amazing! We also saw examples of embroidery at really high quality, and a traditional dress I modeled. It was a morning well spent!

Our tour guide was very knowledgeable as he explained the history of the Peranakan people. He provided a history lesson and stories in the museum. He was very knowledgeable in the herbs at the Fort Canning Park. I think the tour could have been better, perhaps more time at the museum, perhaps a food preparation demonstration beyond wrapping of the dumplings. The name of the tour is "food tasting" so a short cooking demonstration of the foods that we are tasting might be a potential option.

The tour started with a visit to the spice gardens which was interesting. The guide was friendly and knowledgeable. Next was the Peranakan museum and then a visit to a Peranakan home to try some food. I enjoyed the tour but felt there was a bit too much hanging around at the last 2 places and would have liked more information about how the food was cooked and perhaps a recipe or two.

Most enlightening tour touching on history, customs, architecture, & Peranakan food that is not widely known. Most enlightening & personable guide, driver & presenters, who took time to ensure they imparted knowledge to our benefit. Highly recommended for those interested in Singapore's history & food culture.

Loved this tour - it was brilliant. I have visited Singapore many times but had not heard of the Peranaken Museum. The shophouse we visited was wonderful. The hosts were gracious and could not have been more welcoming. Definitely recommend this tour for a small insight into the real Singapore and its history.

The Peranankan Tour is a must do. However, I did get eaten alive by mosquitoes at the spice garden. Make sure you spray yourself with insect repellent.

This was, for me, an independent tour. It was very well done, but should be planned for men as well as women.
