Chiufen Village (Jiufen) and Northeast Coast Half-Day Tour from Taipei

Taipei, Taiwan

Explore the Northeast Coast of Taipei and stroll through the Chiufen Village also known as Jiufen on this four-hour tour from Taipei. Drive to the east coast of Taipei to visit the Northeast Coast National Scenic Area, a popular swimming spot for the locals. Offering fascinating rock formations, lighthouses, fishing villages, pastoral farmlands and temples.

You'll be picked up from your Taipei city hotel at 1:00pm, drive along the northeast coast of Taiwan to the National Scenic Area, popular location with the locals. The northeast coast scenic area is noted for its numerous capes and bays backed by green mountains. Visit Pitou Cape, tall abrasion caves and platforms and other eroded landforms which can be clearly seen on the cape's hanging cliff.

The tour continues to Nanya, a coastline filled with amazing rock formations, a sea-eroded coral shore. The patterned stone is unique in Taiwan and formed through the weathering of the sandstone that lines the shore. The oxidation of iron ore within the stone gives it a beautiful striped pattern.

Travel to the quaint little village of Chiufen Village (Jiufen), once the gold mining center of Taiwan. The gold is gone, but Chiufen (Jiufen) built of closely-packed houses clinging to steep mountainsides, continue to offer enchanting scenery, unique teahouses and fascinating glimpses into the lifestyles of the past.

Tour Highlights

  • Chiufen Village (Jiufen)
  • Pass by Chinkuashin Village
  • Pitou Cape
  • Nanya Rock Formations
  • Bay of Two Colors

The tour guides are very friendly. I will recommend to my friends for their excellent services. But the problem I've forgotten their name.. ;)

We went to Jiufen on a very wet and cold day. Despite being equipped with brollies we were still wet, wet, wet. Regardless of that though, we really enjoyed the trip.

This was a great 1/2 trip from Taipei! Our guide was knowledgeable and made the trip very enjoyable. This trip was a great combination of seeing the coast, rock formations and a little village nestled into a hillside. Great opportunity to explore the village and do a little shopping if desired.

The location is very attractive and is worth so see it. On the weekend when the area is overcrowded it make sense to extent the length of excursion to 5 hours. Perfect organization of the tour, excellent guide and driver. The price corresponds with the quality._br/_ I would like to express our full satisfaction with the service. Zdenka

Ruth was a good English speaking guide, Beitou was interesting as a stop before Jiufen. Personally Jiufen is just a row of shops up in a hill but the food there was good toi buy home as gifts.

I can see how this tour would be terrific, however on the day that went it was pouring rain by the time we made it to the coast and Chiufen Village. Our tour guide made the best of it, as did the rest of us. Kudos to the van driver who made sure there were umbrellas in the van (a plus for those who didn't bring them).

Chiufen is an interesting enough place to visit with many quaint shops but my main complaint is the tour organizer Edison travel. The mini-van used was in bad condition and not very clean. The driver/guide although quite entertaining was sometimes talking on the mobile phone while navigating sharp turns so we didn't feel comfortable with that. This tour company certainly needs to improve their act and their vehicles.

Good tour - you get to see some of the north coast and spend time exploring Chiufen - I would of preferred to leave earlier and see some more of the coast though.

I was travelling alone in Taiwan and found this tour fantastic. It was great to see some of the countryside, in contrast to the bustle of the cities. We stopped at a couple of interesting places along the northeast coast - wonderful scenery. The day I went was cool and a bit wet. This made the winding drive up the hillsides to Chiufen village even more delightful. There was wonderful views, misty shrouds over the valleys, and fewer tourists! Our guide was professional, friendly and knowledgeable. This tour is definitely good value for money. A fabulous way to see life away from the cities, especially if you don't have a lot of time, or travelling alone.

My wife & I generally enjoyed this trip, especially Jiufen Village, where there was plenty of interest in the narrow alleyways & sudden expansive vistas over the coastal area. We had plenty of time to explore, shop & dine during the time spent at the Village. Unfortunately, we found little interest in the several stops made along the coast prior to going to Jiufen &, from discussions with other passengers, the stop to see 'the nose' in particular, could easily be deleted without detracting from the tour. As in our half-day tour to Sansia and Yingge, a 9-seater van was used which did not have seat belts for anyone other than the driver & front seat used by the tour guide. Speaking of the guide, we found him to be very knowledgeable as well as humerous & interesting with his comments.

Looks nothing like the postcards. Very dirty and crowded. Not quaint or historical in feeling. It was foggy, so maybe being able to see the surrounding scenery may have enhanced the trip. But actual village is an uninteresting pit.

Our first tour in Taiwan. Professional tour guide. The tour is well organized. If you have multiple tours with the same company, the tour guide will let you know when your next tour starts and when you will be picked up. The rock formations along the coast were incredible and unique. Not a big tourist area, so very few people were there. Nice views. The ride up to Chiufen village was gorgeous and we thought the market was better than the night markets of Taipei. Regardless of buying anything, it was interesting enough walking around the area. A must 1/2 day tour if you are in Taipei.

We had a nice time on this tour, despite the fact it was raining and cloudy. The northern coast is very pretty, and the village is interesting. Our only disappointment was not being able to see more of the village. We only were able to see one street that was covered with souvenir shops. We wish we had more time there. The guide also tended to explain things while walking this was a problem as he would quickly walk ahead of us and we would be trying to catch up to hear what he was saying.

The Northeast Coast is beautiful, and Juifen, high in the hills, has spectacular views. The guide gave us lots of time to explore Juifen and its interesting market by ourselves. The trip is very enjoyable, and the guide was very informative. I appreciated the tour company's reliability and its focus on small groups.

Interesting village to tour through. Did not include the local museum. Could have easily spent a bit more time driving around the north shore or combining it with their other trip that focuses on the north shore. It would probably only add an extra hour to the trip.

It was ok. Wasn't too pleased about being dumped at a craft shop in the middle of suburbia. I smelt kick-backs to the guide, so I refused to enter the shop, let alone buy anything.
