Full-Day Milford Sound and Fiordland National Park Tour including Milford Sound Cruise and BBQ Lunch

Te Anau, New Zealand

Milford Sound is arguably the most scenic destination in New Zealand. Located in 3 million acres of the Fiordland National Park, Milford Sound is a must-see for any traveler. Magnificent untouched native forests and bush, pristine waterways and lakes, glacier and high peaks. After departing Te Anau the scenery really begins as you are driven along the lake. Lake Te Anau is the largest lake in the South Island.

Upon entering the Fiordland National Park, you will travel up along side the Eglington River to three mountain lakes at the head of the Eglington Valley. You will make the fist of our many sightseeing stops that also allow for some great photo opportunities and you have a couple of different locations for lunch and will endeavor to select the best spot on the day. There are some fantastic walks in the area and this is a great opportunity to experience the beautiful alpine beech forest up close.

After lunch you head towards the Homer Tunnel, taking in some incredible mountain views while driving along side the crystal clear waters of the Hollyford river. You will make some great scenic stops along this stretch of the road, at his time of day there are few other buses on the road. Once through the Homer Tunnel, you will wind our way down the Cleddau Valley. At this time you arrive in an area called Fiordland but are visiting a "Sound", the difference will be explained.

You link up with the 'Scenic Cruises' for the 2pm cruise. It is a 1.45 hour excursion on the fjord. This is an "off peak" period of the day therefore the boat is much less crowded. Being a large boat allows for plenty of space to move about and enjoy the spectacular landscape and wilderness of Milford Sound. There is complimentary tea and coffee on the boat or experience the fresh mountain water available. Keep a look out for seals and dolphins! A big day but a Day to Remember.

The barbecue lunch includes a classic Kiwi BBQ of marinated beef kebabs and sausages, a good range of salads, fresh bread and fruit juice. Vegetarian patties are available on request.

Important Note: During the months of May to October the itinerary for this tour will be modified. In place of the BBQ lunch enroute to Milford Sound with a 2pm cruise, the tour will include a full scenic cruise at 1:00pm with a free hot buffet lunch on board the cruise boat.

What a great day, Chris our driver was informative, knowledgeable and funny, everything you need in a driver. Oh and did I mention he is a great chef, the BBQ was delicious, even the possum snags, yeh good one Chris. A big day for Chris, but he made our day memorable. Being on a smaller bus meant we stopped at places the coaches couldn't, which meant more photo opportunities, If you get the chance,do it !

This has to be the best milford sound daytrip we found. the guide/driver was very polite and friendly, and was always to keen to take pictures for you. there was only 5 of us in the minibus so had plenty of room and got to move alot faster than a traditional large coach tour._br/_ the places we stopped along the way for a walk or pictures was brilliant and the bbq lunch was beautiful (even by aussie standards!)the cruise itself was ok, we had really bad weather unfortunetly but was very accomodating none the less.. we had our own prebooked table and free tea/coffee for the cruise. i would thouroughly recommend this tour for any milford sound trip

nice leader, and relatively nice weather. problem is with milford sound itself, a bit under my expectations. highlight is the captain always tries to hit inside the water falls it's quite exciting if standing outside head of boat. And BBQ bus is lovely nice lunch as well. Becarful with the sandflies, very annoying.

This was a really great day out. The bus driver Nigel was very informative with his narrative on local fauna and flora which certainly made the bus trip interesting. Noriko was welcoming and friendly. Gorgeous scenery with plenty of stops for photos. Cruising up Milford Sound was amazing... it is certainly an untouched area. I'd recommend this to anyone.

Sadly the weather changed from sun the previous day and we had a very wet journey with the BBQ having to be relocated for more cover. Positively, the falls were gushing and Milford Sound was relatively dry once we got there.
