2-Day Mt Fuji and Kyoto Rail Tour by Bullet Train from Tokyo

Tokyo, Japan

Combine a visit to Mt Fuji and Kyoto on this overnight rail tour by Bullet train. You'll visit Mt Fuji, ride the Bullet train to Kyoto and take a sightseeing tour of this important city, known as the cradle of Japan's cultural heritage. You'll then have the option of returning to Tokyo by Bullet train or staying on in Kyoto.

Your tour begins with a relaxing coach trip to Mt Fuji, Japan's highest mountain. You'll also cruise Lake Ashi and ride the aerial cableway to the top of Mt Komagatake for superb views over Hakone National Park.

You'll then zoom your way to Kyoto aboard a high-speed Shinkansen Bullet train. On arriving Kyoto you will be transferred to your Kyoto hotel for the evening, with a choice of tourist-class or first-class hotels.

Next day, you can spend the day sightseeing and return to Tokyo by Bullet train in the evening, or stay on in Kyoto after your day of sightseeing. Highlights on the Kyoto day tour include the Golden Pavilion, Nijo Castle, noted for its gorgeous interiors, and Kyoto Imperial Palace. After lunch at the Kyoto Handicraft Center, you'll visit Sanjusangendo Temple with its 1,001 impressive images of Buddha, the vermilion-hued Heian Shinto shrine and Kiyomizu Buddhist temple, with its wooden veranda.

The service was super, meet and greet at every stop. Amount of time at each location was timed appropriately. Except for the scorching heat which was out of anyone's control, the trip was great. The hotel could have been better, the beds were not comfortable. I'd highly recommend the tour, but if you can avoid the summer, it'd have been so much better, due to heavy traffic, a few original plans had to be changed.

We had only a few days and this was great to see many sights in a short amount of time. We did not have to worry at all about getting from place to place and there were guides at each of the stops. There was a nice balance of tour and free time at each stop.

The tour was wonderful and very detailed. Lunch was delicious both days and pick-up time was very on time and the tour guide spoke very good English and was very accommodating and knowledgeable.

A great 2 day journey through Japan. Each stage of the the tour was well organised, and the guides excellent. The organised accommodation in Kyoto was 1st class. The tour operator had a friendly well organised staff member meet us at every point of the trip. Could not be happier with this company.

All and all, I would encourage you to do this tour if if the weather is nice and you have a short visit to Tokyo but are wanting to see other parts of Japan. The reason I say this is because weather is a major factor with this tour. It was hot, muggy August and very cloudy. We couldn't see the top of Mt. Fuji except for a quick glimpse when the clouds parted. And the top of Hakone was also very cloudy. We took the cable car to the top where the clouds were so bad we could barely see in front of us so we just went back down to the lake. So needless to say, be sure to check the weather! We knew we might be risking it since it was hot August but our time was so short in Japan and we really wanted to see Kyoto. The Kyoto part was great especially if you don't really have time to spend in Japan. You get a very good 1 day overview of the top temples and sights. We only had 5 days in Japan so the tour allowed us to see not only Tokyo where we wanted to spend the majority of the time, but also other parts of Japan including the historical Kyoto. We felt satisfied with what we saw in Kyoto. The daytime tour guides were great with very good English. Not only did they both give the facts about the sites we visited, but they told stories and facts about Japanese life and culture which were very insightful. I thought the company provided a very nice touch in that they had guides meet us every step of the way while we were making our way to Kyoto.

The only negative was the weather; we couldn't see Mt. Fuji. Also, there were too many tourist traps. Still, it was fun, beautiful, and the tour guides were excellent! We saw so much in one day, and learned a ton. Viator made it all very easy. If the weather were better, I'd rate my experience higher.

The first day to Mount Fuji and Hakone was a waste. I would not recommend it.

Well worth the money! I was travelling alone in Japan without much knowledge of the place. Between my 2 weeks worth of meetings, all I had was this weekend to spare. This trip was the perfect fit during the weekend and worked like a clock! I was amazed by the hospitality and kindness Japanese people showed. I will most definitely like to return to this trip with my husband and son next time. Lovely place, wonderful, warm, courteous people. Absolutely worth the money and the time.
