Mt Fuji Day Trip including Lake Ashi Sightseeing Cruise from Tokyo

Tokyo, Japan

Visit Japan's iconic Mount Fuji, cruise Lake Ashi and ride the aerial cableway at Mount Komagatake on this popular day trip from Tokyo. You'll enjoy lunch on Mt Fuji and have sweeping views of celebrated Hakone National Park from Mt Komagatake.

On your full-day trip from Tokyo you'll travel by coach to the Fuji visitor center to see cultural art dedicated to Fujisan. As you drive up to Mt Fuji's fifth station at 7,607 feet (2,305 meters) you'll be inspired by the beauty of the Japanese landscape. Lunch (if option is selected) is a traditional Japanese-style meal.

After lunch, you'll enjoy the crisp mountain air and Mt Fuji views while cruising Lake Ashi and riding the aerial cableway at Mount Komagatake overlooking Hakone National Park.

Your day trip to Mount Fuji concludes with a coach ride back to Tokyo.

At 12,388 feet (3,776 meters) Mount Fuji is Japan's highest mountain. Rarely, on clear days, Fujisan's perfectly shaped volcano slopes can be seen from Tokyo and Yokohama, but views are always subject to weather conditions as mountain weather is notoriously unpredictable. Visibility tends to be better during the colder months, in the early morning and late evening.

Please note:

  • Mt.Komagatake Aerial Cableway may be skipped due to traffic conditions without alternative on the following days
    • Nov 6, 13, 20
    • Dec 30
  • When the driveway up to Mt.Fuji's 5th station is closed in winter due to heavy snow, the tour will go to the highest possible station on Mt Fuji.
  • Visits may be omitted or substituted depending on heavy traffic and weather conditions or for other operational reasons. No refund will be given.

Fantastic views of Fuji and Hakone was a treat. Lunch wasn't as good as the Nikko tour. Dont go at weekends or the traffic will kill you on the way back!

Fantastic trip with another informative guide. Sadly weather spoilt some stunning views and photo opportunities but it didn't stop this being a great trip. I decided not to have the included meal and there were basic eating places across the road nearby. It wa also a great mix of fellow travellers who also made this trip most enjoyable.

The tour was okay and the guide was good but the hotel pickup service is the worst I've had for this tour. First of all, the tour-guide, she did a great job to make us enjoy our traveling in tokyo even we started our day with the feeling of disappointment. She is not only telling us about the history of tokyo and the detail about where we go, but also teaching us a little bit about the basic of the japanese language like the number, and how to say good morning, thank you etc. Also, she has a service mind to be a tour-guide,for example; told us the way to get back home one by one and help us to take pictures(in case if you went alone and wanted to take a picture of yourself) which was really good. It was very nice of her.

The tour was good, the guide was humerous and nice, the bus was comfortable. The guide made sure that we could take good photos of the mountain, and told us stories about tokyo history and made sure everyone was able to get home either by bus or shinkansen

Our guide, Toko (Toko from Tokyo - as she said), was definitely very knowledgeable and made the long trip to Mt Fuji enjoyable. We went on this trip during December so it was extremely cold, windy and misty at the top of Mt Komagatake although that gave it a mysterious quality. It was a great experience!

The guide was knowledgable and very entertaining. The weather was awful, which she couldn't help, but she put effort into keeping our spirits up and making the best of it. . . . I would have liked a better place to stop for lunch. A choice of overpriced hotel restaurants isn't my ideal.

Although it is an unique experience to travel by metro back to the hotel in Tokyo, it would be expected that Viator tours would include the return to the main hotels, since the tours are not cheap.

One of the most informative tours i have ever been on. I learned so much from the tour guide about Japan. She had a lovely thorough way about her and an enthusiasm about the land we toured through aswell as a strong devotion to her country and culture that was infectious and most exhilerating to be on tour with. I left feeling as if I had achieved more in that day than the whole time I was in Japan. Thankyou Hiro!

I'd read the previous reviews but others in my party were determined to take this trip... Mt Fuji was covered in cloud... The half hour boat trip on the lake was relaxing but no views because of low cloud( just as well because the commentary on- board couldn't be heard) ... The cable car was laughable because we couldn't see through the windows... We got to the top, stood inthe rain queuing to return within 10 minutes... To be fair to the guide we were given the choice of taking the cable car or visiting an onsite aquarium!

It was a great experience. We were picked up promptly at our hotel lobby, and meet our tour at the main bus terminal. The tour guide was very nice and explained everything clearly to us. His English was probably one of the few exceptional well Japanese I've ever heard of, we didn't miss any words or misunderstand anything. The lunch was surprisingly great, it was a traditional Japanese lunch with different varieties. The only problem was our luck, it was kind of cloudy and drizzling that day, so we didn't get to have a good view of the top of Mt. Fuji.

The activities were organized as what were advertised. Everything is well organized and conducted in a timely manner. The tour guide was kind of boring. She was very knowledgeable, but her narration on the bus was so boring that it made people sleepy. Besides she doesn't know how to entertain people. On a long bus ride, being able to entertain the passengers is very important since we spent at least 5 hours on the road during the almost 11-hour trip. One thing I appreciate about the tour guide is that she helped having the bus dropping us off close to our hotel so my husband didn't have to walk too long with his bad knees.

We enjoyed our trip. The tour guide we had that day was fantastic, very friendly and knowledgeable. The one thing that we found was how rushed we were at each stop. We felt that we could have skipped the Mt. Fuji visitor center, to allow more time at the other places.

We had a very intresting trip. The guide gave us a clear and simple information on the various places that we visited. The only setback was the rain that fell throughout the day. We saw an unforgetable event ie a wedding reception and taking photos with the japenese women wearing beautiful kimonos.

We traveled together with kids. Both the tour guide and driver are good. Intrigue experience riding the cruise and having a fun time playing the snow. It will be much better if the trip can have more stop stations during the end of the trip.

Our guide is very knowledgeable with good command of English. However, the weather was too foggy that day and it was raining so we wasn't able to get any view at all when cruising the lake and in the cable car. We did not take the lunch option but instead, we purchased small snacks and took the lunch hour to explore the shops in the area.

Our trip was absolutely fantastic. We had a wonderful tour guide and she made everything so much more interesting. We actually got to see Mt. Fuji which is a rarity thanks to clouds. Lunch was an adventure with a beautifully laid out bento box. And the hike up to the springs above Lake Ashi was exhilerating and the black eggs so much fun (seven more years of life). Over all it was a wonderful day and I'd highly recommend it.. I'm so lucky to have found the Viator site. They made everything so easy!

The four of us had a great day on the 11th April. Must congratulate the company doing the trip as the coach, the tour guide, the meal, the cable car ride was excellent. Had views of ¾ of Mt Fuji and as the clouds moved around managed to see 90% of the mountain including the top of the mountain through thinning clouds.

We were very lucky to be able to go to the highest area on Mt Fuji, it had just snowed a couple days before but we had a beautiful day and the clouds moved, so we were able to get a great view of the mountain top. It was cold, but so worth it!

We were lucky we had a beautiful day. Tour guy was very nice, little hard to understand, but very nice. Bus was very confortable. If we would of done it on our own, I'm sure it would of been more expensive. We did not get the traditional japanese lunch, but we ate at an italian restaurant next to the people who paid for lunch. It was cheaper and delicious, very American salad bar available. This was the only tour we did in a 6 day visit to Tokyo and it was worth it since you cover so many things in one day outside of Tokyo. The Kamakura tour we did it on our own, we did not need any tour guide for that one. It was definetly the best decision to take the Mt Fuji tour rather than the Kamakura. I highly recommend this tour.

The guide was excellent, providing both information about the sights we were seeing plus general information about living in Japan. The tour left on time and was conducted very professionally. The tour is very weather dependent. We were partially lucky could see Mt. Fuji from part way up, but further up everything covered in clouds. But that is completely out of the tour operator's control. Our schedule did not allow us to try to pick a clear day. If yours does, I believe you can switch dates for free - which I would recommend if your selected day has lousy weather. One caution is that if you ask to be picked up at your hotel, the instructions tell you to call the local Sunrise Tours office - which is only open business hours Mon-Fri. That was inconvenient give our travel schedule. If you prepay a tour and list your hotel, not sure why you have to call and confirm. We did not take the lunch option. I'm not sure if they always stop at the same place for lunch, but at least the time we toured they stopped at an amusement park and we ate at a Quick Mart across the parking lot from the main restaurants because the restaurants didn't look that interesting. Food at the Quick Mart was inexpensive and good. No English menu is posted, but they have one on the counter. Look for a large Q on a building on the other side of the lot. I'd recommend this tour. We had a great time 2 adults, 1 teenager.

This was the most entertaining day trip I have ever been on. We were also lucky in that Mount Fuji was highly visible on the day we went. The tour guide was extremely entertaining, even singing to us at one point! The amount of information she provided was excellent. There was enough time spent at mount Fuji, the lake cruise and the rope-way. The tour guide would advise us just before a great spot for taking photos came up. Listen out for the musical highway singing road, this was an unexpected extra as none of us on the tour had ever heard of it! If you have not booked lunch and the hotel restaurant is full, head to the gate of the theme park where you can buy lunch at a snack bar.
