Tokyo Full Day Walking Tour including Tsukiji Fish Market

Tokyo, Japan

Mix history with a relaxing stroll on a full-day guided walking tour around Tokyo. You'll visit a seaside garden from the Edo period, experience the exciting hubbub of the busy fish market, visit the brilliant Edo Tokyo Museum and use your one-day subway pass to ride the Toei subway.

Due to operational changes following the March 2011 Tsunami, this tour is not available until further notice

Your walking tour begins in the Shiodome area at the Hamarikyu Garden, the only surviving seaside garden from the EdoHamarikyu Garden was constructed as a residence for a Japanese feudal lord in the 17th century, and became a duck hunting grounds for the Tokugawa Shogunate. You'll enjoy taking a stroll in this scenic and historic Japanese garden of the Tokugawa Shogunate.

You'll then have around 2.5 hours to explore the Tsukiji Outer Fish Market, Namiyoke Inari Shrine and surrounding eating and shopping area. The outer fish market is used for the retail of market-related goods. To see the auction of fish, you'll need to visit the inner market at around 5am on your own. When the fish market is closed, you'll visit Ameyoko Market instead.

At the renowned Edo Tokyo Museum you'll see re-creations of Old Edo and post-Meiji Tokyo, providing insights into Tokyo's past and exhibited in a massive, futuristic building. The museum shop has unique products representative of the Edo period which are not available in other stores.

Your walking tour includes a Toei subway line one-day pass. After the tour, you can use the pass to ride the Toei subway lines on your own, visiting such places as Asakusa, Shinjuku and Roppongi.

A great way to get introduced to Tokyo. The fish market was the highlight by far. The Edo museum was interesting, but by that time I think everyone on the tour was pretty exhausted so it was hard to take it all in. Our guide was very good at explaining what we were seeing, but I recommend reading a bit of Japanese history before going so you have a good context for the explanations.

The tour started at 9 and I thought we would start with the fish market even if it was not 5 a.m. But we only got there in the afternoon and didn't see much. The restaurant recommended was at our own cost but much too expensive. Yes, I know, it was the "golden week" !

I tremendously enjoyed this tour. We walked in the inner-outter markets and then we visited a shrine and temple, all within walking distance. It was a great tour.

Our tour guide was wonderful -- very pleasant and knowledgeable. The group was small so we could see quite a bit and not get lost despite touring during the crowded national holiday period.

If you love fish - fresh fish - you must visit the Tokyo Fish Market. Simply amazing. If you don't like fish, you really should stay away from this place.

Our guide was EXCELLENT! He did everything--and MORE--that I would expect from a guide. I really appreciated his experience and attention to detail._br /__br /_The tour itself was lacking. Too much time to wander about on one's own. The fish market was a bore as we were only allowed in the retail section, so we never saw all the fish being sold other than boxes of it on pallets--and we'd only know that was fish by the marking on the exteriors! Why bother to take us there so that we could wander amongst the retail vendors of mostly dried fish stuff? Having lunch there was a chore too._br /__br /_The Edo Museum is excellent, but a volunteer docent took us through. Our guide didn't have a thing to do. We could have taken a cab to the door and had the same experience!_br /__br /_Liked going up in the tall building for an overlook of the park and the Imperial Palace. A good place to start. The time spent walking about the garden was OK, but could have been condensed into a stop at the tea room and a little walk about, which should have included the 300-year-old pine and a stop at the gardens if in bloom._br /__br /_Basically a $10 tour for $50. Sorry, but you asked for my thoughts!
Review: 2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better
